Do you like funny characters that don't express emotions readily? If your answer was yes, you are doing yourself a disservice by not reading this manga.
The plot is as simple as it comes. Raidou, your seemingly-average male highschooler, one day begins talking to Aharen, the very small girl who sits next to him in class. He quickly finds that she is horrible at judging interpersonal distance, both physically and mentally, but continues to interact with her on a daily basis.
If you ask me, the main draw of this manga is the absolute stoic nature of both the main characters. Both are severe kuuderes, especially this

Seeing as this is an ongoing manga (there are only 13 chapters available at the time of this review), I will only be covering it up to that point.
"Aharen-san wa Hakarenai", or "Aharen Is Indecipherable", is a short length comedy about a girl who can't seem to be understood. I know this doesn't sound very interesting on its own, but so far it's really funny and charming. It reminds me a lot of "Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge", or "Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless" in the sense that the characters act in a similar way. Instead of revolving around Tanaka being lazy and Ohta reacting to it, ... May 25, 2023
(For anyone coming from the anime and want to start with the manga-only content, you can start with chapter 68.)
Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is a mix of comedy, wholesomeness, and a little romance that may not appeal to everyone but very much appeals to me. The premise of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is simple. Both Raidou Matsuboshi and Reina Aharen are two characters who both start off having trouble making friends at their new high school. Raidou for being tall, and imposing with his stoic face. Aharen for being shy due to having issues at a previous school for people avoiding her for having a habit of getting ... Aug 8, 2021
Ok this is my first ever manga review but after reading this I feel like I had to give it a review!
Story: 9/10 The story is pretty simple, nothing all that complex and very easy to understand. It follows the lives of Aharen and Raidou two high school kids who sit next to each other and became unlikely friends. At the start at least. As the story goes on there is a hidden element of subtle character development which you don't really realize until you go back to the earlier chapters. The relationship between our two main characters was very realistically developed and naturally as well. All in ... Jun 17, 2022
This manga is too wholesome, I'm dying from all the cute moments that happened in this so far. This is easily the most wholesome manga I've read in a bit. Somehow, this manga managed to have the best transition from a purely school comedy thing to a romance school comedy I've seen in quite a bit but the manga would still work perfectly without them getting together romantically.
The fact that you really know how the two main characters are feeling even though their faces barely move really shows talent from the manga artist and do I even need to say how utterly wholesome it is? ... Aug 21, 2023
I will start by saying that this manga is wholesome and the characters are likeable. I pretty much agree with most of the reviews and those are more thorough, so I will keep this short. Characters are great, the author doesn't overdo it with regards to romance or comedy for the most part, and there is a slow progression that fits the characters personalities and plot. The only negative I have about this manga is that the author sometimes makes Raidou's imagination a little too ridiculous, but it doesn't occur often.
Fun manga but I'll rate it at a 7/10. Worth reading May 12, 2022

Finally up to date with Aharen-san wa Hakarenai's manga. It is very pleasant to read each chapter. It has a perfect combination between its spectacular comedy, its simple but cute romance and its Slice of Life not quite as ordinary as expected, but together it works. That said: His comedy makes me spectacular. It may seem repetitive, but the way he uses his gags is perfect. From Raidou overanalyzing situations, to the teacher who suffers from "pathos". He blurts out such bizarre situations out of nowhere and they are a laugh out loud. The romance is there and it works especially for the protagonists. Aharen who doesn't know how to ... May 9, 2022
Beforehand: This Manga is so cute it made me vomit sugar while reading. Definetly worth a read for people that love this genre and heres why:
Story: 7/10 Its a Gag Romance Comedy Manga. The Story is more or less secondary although its present and well excecuted. its just your every day school thing sadly. Its VERY cute sometimes though (the plot doesnt really give more room. i think they used it as best as they could, so the plot rating for me isnt a decisive in this) Art: 6.5/10 It's cute. Characters: 8/10 Characters are nicely done and unlike in most other mangas they act surprisingly relateable. I really didnt ... |
