The art and atmosphere of these series is very similar. Both series focus on the relationships of the main couple as they date. Both couples are healthy, though the Koi no Hajimari couple is more immature. The couples both struggle with things that occur as they graduate from high school like attending college.

Both female leads fall in love with their sharp tongued and either awkard or rude senpai's after seeing seeing something they did sukisen: girl sees a painting of his and is determined to meet male lead mairimashita: sees a love song's lyrics scribbled on her desk and is determined to meet male lead in both, there is a situation after the leads are going out, that a female of male lead's past and tries to get him back both end well

MC and FL of both share a lot of similarities personality and appearance-wise. The only difference being the "school" element. The plot of both lay out in a similar manner too.

Both senpai-kouhai love stories! Super cute and wholesome moments, with limited unnecessary side-characters! FL is very proactive and somewhat shameless (in a good way) in expressing her love, just like Koharu, whereas the ML is quite the tsundere yet loving bf. Perfect fluffy read that leaves you wanting more. *Slightly on the spicier side though so be warned!

Both manga focus more on the development of the actual relationship itself, rather than the buildup to it. They both contain heavily mature and responsible relationships, which delve from the usual relationship tropes such as misunderstandings and lack of communication

Both are refreshing modern romance stories that touch on realistic expectations about first loves and high school relationships. Both subvert shoujo stereotypes and clichés that make for very funny and heart-warming stories. Character design is similar as well (quieter dark-haired boy and upbeat light-haired girl). Character development is stronger in Horimiya, even with its supporting characters. Mairimashita, Senpai has a more sensual tone.

Are you tired of romance stories where the plot is carried by misunderstandings that could be swiftly solved by a simple but somewhat alien concept known as dialogue? Do you want to do away with slow developments, constant rivals and drama, and would rather some fluff and a couple with great chemistry instead? Well, look no further. Those two manga got you covered, and if you finish one and if left with an earning for more, you have to read the other.

Both stories are very cute and wholesome. The relationships develop quicker than most Manga and feel real and genuine. Characters in both manga are relatively similar.

For some reason, this two mangas give me similar vibe. The romance starts from the girl getting interested in her schoolmate, which eventually turns into love. His feelings are a bit unclear at the begining. The girl doesn't have much love experience but she's facing the love head on. The boy is kind of mysterious. And of course like in (almost) every shoujo manga, we have additional people in love with our main characters. Both mangas just give you the 'realistic' vibe and show the growth of the characters in the relationship.
