Before I tell you more about this manga I would like to say that I might not have enough words to tell you how great this sequel is and reaches levels I had never seen before on some aspects. So I will start this review by the end: I recommend you more than ever to read this adventure which is Blue Giant.

After an extraordinary beginning of manga where Shinichi Ishizuka developed ideas around a protagonist more than endearing and full of hope, this one decided to raise his level of mangaka already very important and to surpass himself to make I think his best ... manga.
This sequel develops even more the ideas put in place in the first part and goes looking for new inspirations in the second. The previous themes such as family, the music industry or social interactions in this environment, are even more honored. The author develops very well the part about the music industry by moving the context of the manga beyond the borders of Japan, since the story of Blue Giant Supreme takes place in Europe. It is here that we will discover the backstage of this industry especially with the recording of music or the organization of festivals, tours or shows at a more professional level than in the first part.

Personally I really appreciated this point. We are shown that everything is not easy and that the profession of musician is very difficult if you don't give 100%. There is a kind of transposition between the state of mind of the author at the time of writing and his characters. This is one of the magic points of Blue Giant: you can feel how much Shinichi Ishizuka took pleasure in drawing the key moments of the plot, and that he progressed at the same time as the characters he directed.

The point that I personally appreciated the most in this second part is the development of the characters and the social interactions. The author chose to start from scratch by deciding to bring new characters together through chance. He has scripted everything wonderfully so that the bricks of the construction of a group of individuals fit perfectly as you read without exaggeration so that at the end, we can say that it is natural and that it sounds like an evidence. The panel of characters is really extraordinary whether they are main or even minor. You can feel that nothing has been left to chance. A special mention is attributed to the character of Raphaël Bonneau. I leave you the surprise to discover why but I really admire the way the author chose to sublimate him. In addition to that I found the dialogues and situations were particularly good. We follow this new group of characters in their highs and lows, as if we were watching this show all the time. The level of immersion proposed is really brilliant.

Technically, there is not much to say: the first part was already excellent, with many ideas of staging and cutting very interesting. In the second part, as I said before, the author has really raised his level to propose something even more sophisticated. Let's say that the technique is up to the ambitions of the manga. The moments of silence, which were key passages in the learning of the main character in the first part, become this time much more intimate moments when we are in the introspection, and much more powerful when it is a question of describing the music by the drawing. The author also manages to always bring new ideas in his cutting, and more particularly on the moments of discussions. There is at least one new one in each volume!

I think I described the best without spoiler why I liked this manga. I can only recommend you to give it a try because I'm sure it's a gem that sparkles in musical manga. I had a great time it would be a shame for you to miss it too. Just try it, you won't regret!

Blue Giant is an amazing manga about a guy called Dai Miyamoto who falls in love with playing the saxophone. He thinks of jazz every waking moment. He practices as much as he can, and then some.
The first volume had 80 chapters that covered his beginnings from a highschool kid to a college aged kid who worked part time jobs in Tokyo, while also polishing his sax skills. At the end of the manga he decides to leave Japan to get more exposure.
Blue Giant Supreme is the continuation of the story. Make sure you read the first part before you start this sequel.
This manga ... starts with Dai going to Germany. He doesn’t speak the language, doesn’t have much savings. But he has his talent, determination and confidence. He is really courageous, doing what needs to be done to get better.
The story, art, characters, the whole feel is as amazing as the first part. 9/10 for me.

Highly recommended. So far only 18 chapters are available online, but the mangaka has already finished this manga with 83 chapters. I’m waiting for more releases. And this manga is worth the wait.
