THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Why doesn't this thread exist yet?

This looks like it will be a lot of fun. The mysterious backstory, gothic feel and 40's style make it feel really unique (so far, anyway).

Roger reminds me a whole lot of batman so far, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I sure hope they give him more depth than batman...

The "to be continued" hardly feels necessary, but otherwise a good start!

=O This is AWESOME! I had a massive grin on my face throughout the whole episode.. I hope you are all watching this dubbed! Its one of the better ones out there. Plus is Steve freakin Blum as the lead ffs! Who would want to miss that?

"You are a louse Roger Smith" That made me LOL so hard xD.

Pretty nice first episode tbh. I like Dorothy's personality as well as Roger Smith. Looks like a cliffhanger at the end there but I liked the themes so far.

Same here when I first watched this. Oh, and I should probably watch the OP song more.

Pretty nice start with a very good cliffhanger ending! The whole atmosphere reminded me a bit of Batman in Gotham and well this could be pretty much him if he used mecha's instead :p

Pretty interesting start I must say so let's see what this anime will have to offer us!

I agree. Its pretty great and does have a lot of Batman vibes to it. Basically Batman: The Animated Series but with mecha. I heard that the creator is a very big fan of Batman and western stuff.

A perfect start! I'm a fan of the dark-deco style so this is great. I'm not too partial to mecha but I can still appreciate a giant robot smashing up baddies.

Some serious nostalgia from seeing watching this. I only really saw a few episodes of the second season on Toonami when I was younger.

Cool first episode. I love the scene, after Roger blew up the gangsters and Dorothy says with ruffled hair "You're a louse, Roger Smith".

Nice detailing on the stoplights, lol. The red and green covers almost like anime eyes in their shininess. It's a *good sign* when a show doesn't overlook small details.

The background characters are sparsely detailed for now. At least it's not suffering from "monochrome casting", as in everyone has the exact same tone and shape. There's some variation in their looks at least.

Damn, Paradigm City of Amnesia has seen some hard times. Interesting names, though.

I really liked the first half before the seemingly random mecha battle started. There was a good gradual reveal of the characters and the world, with questions like "can a civilization exist without history" to get the gears going. And then fighting robots.

Definitely not bad for an opener. I like the rapport between Roger and Dorothy.

Damn, this series OOZES style, it looks so cool. The art was a bit rough at times, but I barely noticed because the animation was great when it mattered, and everything looks very well designed. It borders on bein silly sometimes, with the rocket-powered suitcase and stuff like that, but I love that shit. Dorothy is a cool character, I like androids and and her superhuman powers will probably come in handy. The Engrish wasn't bad either, it was actually pretty good.

I like it!

Nice episode :)

I watched this since I'm almost done with Outlaw Star and I wanted another 90s show.

Did not disappoint!

And yes, the Sunrise back then made Batman Animated Series Animation. You'll see a lot of style from that show to here.

I was even surprise to learn that Batman Animated series was animated by a Japanese studio. That's why it looks so fucking good and was a timeless classic!

I should buy Batman and Beyond Animated Series BD's after this!

First impressions, what can I say. Is basically James Bond/Bruce Wane x Super Robot genre.

Love it!! Very suave like! Plot seems interesting. Lots of Christianity themes.

"Cast in the name of God Ye not Guilty" can mean many things, but is generally interpreted as "He who wields the Megadeus, created in God's name, is not a murderer but an executioner." But it may also be read as a paraphrasing of John 8:7—"Let him who is without sin/guilt cast the first stone." Schwarzwald's theme is called stoning.

And lol, when I saw Dorothy being an Android. I instantly knew Dorothy from VA-11 HALL-A took inspirations from this. Same red hair color and maid outfit style.

Being voiced by Yajima, Akiko. She's gonna be good for sure!

Anyways, I'm loving it!! It's making me want to get the Batman Animated BD's asap really!

Glad we have BD's from those as well!

Let's do this!

Pretty cool so far. It's not very structured yet, but I suspect that'll resolve itself over the next few episodes. The idea of an amnesiac city is very interesting, and I wonder what'll be done with it here.

A much-needed job in the city of amnesia . A district with crumbling skyscrapers. Employing, artistic angles. In the wake of a distant train. Big O darn. Restricted freedom. And a robotic imposter with established suspicious eyes. If they don’t want to play by the rules, then the money comes back. A new android that can almost pass for human. A factory producing illegal items. Paradime city, a town of forgetfulness. A place where everyone recently forgot everything. Even without a history if they are still operational, they will form a society. Memories like nightmares, sometimes come when you least expect them. In his personal opinion, criminals should behave professionally. The robot wants his protection. A lot of power outside the domes. Would an android call its creator a parent. Something mysterious has happened in this massive abandoned factory. He was forced to build a monster. Although seemingly the stories have been forgotten, the act of prayer has remained. Bingo! A watch activated car and missile system. She calls him a louse and he claims this is something he is used to being called. A giant robot in West Dome number five. The giant has tentacles. It’s Showtime for big O. It has arrived from beneath. Yice. By-By dotty. The sister is defeated and the sister is destroyed. Disney song to outro to. This is quite good so far. It is appealing to all of my biggest biases. All it has to do is keep this up and it will get a nine. Theoretically, even a ten. This is very unlikely to get a low rating. But we have already known that the best way to get a 10 from me is to be a psychological Mecha show, so this won’t have to do very much work to score highly with me. I’m looking forward to this show. 5

This first episode is an interesting enough introduction to the series. The mix of neo-noir and super robot show is very unique. It is very reminiscent of the 90s Batman cartoon, with Roger's butler and even how he is drawn. Paradigm city is very striking with its images of gothic-meets-industrial architecture. I look forward to learning more about the mass amnesia that affects the city this episode mentions.
