For all those out there who not only spend your free time watching the surreal but enjoy playing those odd surreal games, please share.

The only one I can think off at the moment is - American McGee's Alice a very warped adaption of Lewis Carrols character which was released on the PC in 2000

MDK was pretty odd as well again on the PC in the late 90's

I do not play games anymore. I know that I played lot's of spectrum surreal games ages ago, but I don't remember them right now.

But when I think of a surreal game, my mind flies immediately too "Monty Python's A Complete Waste Of Time" :D.

I heard American McGee's Alice was pretty cool, but haven't had a chance to play it. (Doesn't it seem like there's a lot of surrealism inspired by Alice in Wonderland?)

Anyway, how about... Silent Hill 2 (and the others, but mostly 2)? I know it's officially horror, but I think it's a surreal kinda horror. The crazy designs of the monsters, the way reality warps around, etc.

Another horror game that comes to mind is Koudelka. It's not a very good game (horrible voice acting for one), but it has some interesting enemies. Sometimes you fight a man in a suit who has a deformed head, walks on the ceiling, and shoots you with a handgun.

There are a lot of strange "indy games" too. Check out Mondo Medicals and Mondo Agency by Cactus: http://www.cactus-soft.co.nr/

And now some weird little games:

Pazzon (very quick yet odd game)
http://www.yoyogames.com/games/show/44503

Eversion (longer and seemingly more normal game until...)
http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html

Anyway, one game I always hear a lot about when "surrealism" and "games" are brought up together in a sentence is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Anyone played this? I heard it's pretty interesting as well.

I recently played a surreal horror game called The Path, It's about red riding hood.
I thought the nightmare parts were creepy, but the rest of the game was pretty boring.

Most of the other games I know of have already been posted (Yume Nikki, Eversion, Cactus).

I'm playing it right now, it's pretty good. It does some cool stuff like making bugs crawl across the screen, or things that are intended to make you think there's something wrong with the game (like telling you it's deleting all your saves). Though some of the graphics look dated.

Believe it or not The Path is more on the psychological side.
The presentation may seem surreal but it's like Sanitarium in this respect.

At first glance that was my opininon as well but as i got to understand each character the game moved from the surreal to the psychological side.

For example i find Rose's story to be completely surreal mainly becouse even though i try to understand her i just can't and thus her story becomes surreal.

Dreams to Reality maybe, hum...
Sanitarium is more psychological, really. But you guys must agree that there's nothing more surreal in the world than the human mind :D

And loved your ava, Knife <3

How about Panic! for the Sega CD?

The entire game is about pressing buttons and seeing what weird events happen. It leans more towards comedy.

Here is a preview video if you are interested.

Talking about horror video games, I remember I once played one called "Ib", for game boy advance.
It talked about a 10-year-old girl who at an art exhibition suddenly gets sucked into a painting and gets stuck in the mad world of the painter (a bit like Alice in Wonderland).

link if anyone is interested:

But all the clocks in the city
Began to whirr and chime:
'O let not Time deceive you,
You cannot conquer Time.

If there's still someone who is interested in Surreal Games, you should try games from Czech studio Amanita.

Machinarium, Samorost and Botanicula. These are really enjoyable pieces.

You could try OFF by Mortis Ghost. I also dig all those Japanese RPG Maker surreal horror games, like Yume Nikki and all its clones, Ib, The Witch's House, Ao Oni, etc. Or just google vgperson and play all his translated games.

Some non Japanese examples are Middens, Gingiva, LSD Dream Emulator, Sanitarium, and games made by Icepick Lodge.

If you know how to play doom mods I advise playing ARCHIE, it's really, surreal, but you have to know a little bit about doom and the engine to play it, then I think it's impossible to beat it without cheating
