No matter what they say I refuse to accept Dohko and Shion both killing each other in one move purely because although that would be cool, there is no way we only got to see a few minutes of young Dohko. No way!!! They probably teleported to some one versus one 1000 year war place or something crazy.
I kinda love Papillion. He's quite interesting, his design is great, and the melody that played during his fight was quite pretty and mystical. Plus, I think his first forms were the first non-humanoid that has been fought in Saint Seiya. At least until he transformed into his true form. He was first bubble monster goo, then a bug, then a butterfly. It seemed Mu actually disintegrated the goo and released his second from which was cool.
He appears to be a captain of sorts. Being ordered by Rhadamanthys means Papillion is below him and the fact that he ordered and scared Gigant shows his superiority over him. I would wager that Papillion is a good idea of some of Hades strongest forces yet not his absolute highest tier specters which would be the class of Rhadamanthys.
I liked how quickly it characterized both of them. They thought the traitorous saints either betrayed them or died and have now got to push forward and take on the job those saints initially had and take Athena's head, yet Gigant forgot that immediately once he entered combat. He thought Seiya was a weakling and yet was mad and almost disobeyed orders to take on his prey. He appears to be a cruel specter who prides himself on battle over all else. Papillion is much more difficult to pin down but I still found him fascinating. He seems to me at least as though he's more curious than anything else. The way he wanted to fight Mu on equal grounds, to so test the so-called "infamous Mu" and the way he saw Seiya's strength and let him go to see if he could take on the other Specters is all you need to know to understand that. If he really cared about his goal he wouldn't risk that. It almost seems like he's entirely in it for himself and not his allegiances to Hades. I love Mu and the fight itself was awesome, the way both Seiya fought against the psychokinesis and snapped his arm back into place, and the way Mu teleported out of the butterflies grasp and surrounded Butterfly Papillion with a spider web as if he was prey were fantastic, but Papillion was so interesting to me I somewhat hope the last surviving butterfly means he'll still be a part of this arc. There was just so much there that could be further explored with him!
There seems to be a pattern of specters using attacks that restrain the body and suffocate their foes. That fragrance move was one, and both Papillion's silk and butterflies attacks did a similar thing. I wonder if that will be indicative of the evil stars and Hades themselves.
I bet Seiya will get a run in with Gigant again because the way he beat him up and looked down on him was asking for Seiya to beat his face in. That's totally going to happen.
Last thing I wanted to say was that Shiryu showed some impressive traits this episode. He was the only one to sense the cosmos in the Cancer house because of his enhanced senses, a trait I've loved that they've given him, and his ability to compose himself and continue on when faced with the death of his master. Shiryu fully believes Dohko is dead and it broke him briefly. He ran back to see for his own 'eyes' and mourn him. Shun tried to stop him but Hyoga, someone who's lost his own master in the past and has lived a life of mourning and dealing with the loss of Camus, Crystal Saint(even if he's officially deleted from the universe in this arc), and of course his Mama, stopped him. Shun showed his typical compassion but I think Hyoga knew that this was the kind of thing one had to deal with on their own. And Shiryu realized that too. Reflecting on the fact that both he and Dohko in their own way agreed to live and die a saint and that now is not the time to mourn but continue fighting instead. We saw an incredibly human moment where the legendary Shiryu broke but quickly composed himself. It only goes to show how strong he is. Able to shoulder the loss of someone he idealizes, someone who he's trained under and been that close to for the time being, as Dohko would have wanted him to for Athena's sake. Kakkoii~~~ Overall that was a touching scene in many ways. |
