| Should this be the first series I watch? I love mechs. I love action. I've always wanted to watch a Gundam series, there's just so many I don't know where to start. And before you start suggesting series to me, I know this sounds picky, but I know the super old ones won't have the best animation or quality to them, so anything that's pleasing to the eye would be a nice bonus ;D Thanks guys! |

| Build Fighters is watchable with no Gundam experience, but you'll be missing out on the bucketload of shout-outs and cameos which are making fans squeal. If you don't mind a straightforward (if well done) tourney-battle anime made with a child demographic in mine, then by all means go ahead and strap yourself in for a well animated and constructed series. You will have to remember that it's not exactly 'representative' of what other Gundams are like. If you want a Gundam to start with that isn't too 'old', then take a look at Wing/SEED/00/AGE (made in that order), and pick the one that catches your eye or has the least offensive art-style (AGE had a poor reception and is often lambasted as 'too kiddy'). That'll get you into the swing of what a 'main' Gundam series is like. |

| I believe you should rather watch Gundam 00, and Valvrave, than original Gundam series, because it loks like you love code geass, and Tengen Toppa, so i assume that you'll like anime with similiar feeling to it. What I mean is, that they are "fun mecha show" with a bit of auto-parody, but still taking some serious problems into account. Older Gundams are more "we are real people with realistic military, people are sometimes dying for no reason at all, war is depressing." Also war in Universal century is often like First world war, with no clear bad guys. Don't watch Gundam Seed, I personally don't hate it, but it's simply terrible Gundam to watch as first one. |

I would suggest Gundam Unicorn OVAs the animation is top notch, the story will make you think, the characters will make you feel, and the dub is outstanding and full of emotion (if you like dubs). I notice that you are watching Kill la kill and have Shingeki no kyojin in your favorites, do you like their OST? If yes, then you will be pleased to know that Gundam unicorn's OST is also by Hiroyuki Sawano. Watching this will give you a basic feel of what most Gundam series are about and it should only take you a couple of hours to catch up. After you finish the 6 OVAs you can wait for the final one thats due in Spring with the rest of us ^^. And then the prequel, Gundam: the orgin which is due in 2014. |

Saying this series isn't part of the franchise just because it's focused on Gunpla (w/c is one of Bandais major cash cows and one major hobby for lots of Gundam fans worldwide) is one of the most inane things I've ever heard in quite a while. Please refrain from making subjective claims as if they were facts or you'll just be considered a troll. |
| It's possible to enjoy it, however, you won't appreciate it as much if you aren't familiar with the franchise. I would recommend watching the original Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam 00, Gundam 08th MS Team, and Gundam Unicorn. |

Welcome to the Gundam Universe! I think build fighters is a great show, but as someone said its honestly more of a shout out fan show for people who always wanted to see Gundams from different shows battle it out. Some are just comical (wing vs gyan) while others are epic (strike build vs his rival rematch). So I think you would enjoy it for the action sense, but the story is not as deep as other shows. As someone else said, it's an anime about gundam models, based on a show that people love and fight with them (ral explained this in one episode to reji). So yes, it's a gundam show because it has mechs, but not a traditional one. As far as what to watch, the key point is you said you don't want to watch something old. You want to watch something easy on the eyes. Code Geass was a great series and due to your liking it, i personally think you would like Seed. Both have main characters who are more or less forced into changing things however lelouche is much more...uh...manipulative. Unicorn is good, however you will be missing a lot of backstory/fan stuff due to it being a "sequel" to the Original gundam universe. 08ms team has graphics that are aged but sharp enough that I think you will enjoy. It takes place around the same time as the original show so you won't be too out of the loop and it has its own nice story. Gundam 00 will probably be a nice one for you. The mobile suits, especially Setsuna's gundams, move similar to Lancelot (to the same degree and more at the end of the series when Lancelot gets his end game wings). The story is pretty...well it's decent, but you do sometimes want to slap the characters. I can't really suggest Wing due to your thing about age and quality. It looks good but the audio will be lacking to what you are wanting. Same with G(and domon will make you hate. People. Who. Pause. Every. Word. Rane.) In the end, watch some YouTube trailers and see what you like. Don't jump on the bandwagons either. Build fighters is definitely a more kiddy gundam and I thought I wouldn't care too much for it but I was wrong. I've enjoyed most all of the Gundams, and honestly I don't feel you would "hate " any of them, but finding shows that have the more HD quality will make things difficult. Good luck! |
