THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I know this series has more or less kept Lupin to rules like "don't kill people" and "don't steal from good people" to support his likability and that's fine but outright stating the limits is really going too far.

That and having to include a "this is how the trick was done" scene alone make this episode pretty weak.

I did like them doing cartoon stuff with Fujiko like the electrocution bit. It's not something they've done before.

But Lupin have killed people before, maybe "don't kill good people"

For me it was the opposite, this episode was pretty funny and intense

It's not the first time they do cartoon stuff, e.g. there were couple of scenes were Zenigata is blown with explosives. Besides, there WAS episode with electrocution (episode 29 "The Electroshock Pigeon Operation": it had Lupin's imposter who electrocuted Mine and her new boyfriend). But they don't do it too often, yeah

Found this to be a wonderfully goofy episode.

Ahh, Fujiko...
Your alluring beauty and coquettish charm is just not enough to put up with your bitch of a personality. You were extra cute in the end though, burnt tissue and all haha.

Seriously, Fujiko is definitely one of the sexiest babes in fiction, but femme fatales... no thank you.

But... this has been done before! Numerous times in fact, if I recall correctly.

I distinctly remember this happening numerous times as well. S1 with Pycal/Pyker, S2 Lupin's levitation, other trickery.

Ironic thing to say since Fujiko was a femme fatale for a little while in the first TV series. I thought she was more interesting then, though to be fair it's not something you can maintain over scores or hundreds of episodes.

I don't recall them ever saying "Lupin will not do X, Y, or Z" ever before. Can you recall specific examples?

But in those examples, someone was figuring out a a mystery to them and there was sometimes some cleverness in the explanation (Lupin playing a prank on Jigen with Pycal's levitation trick, for example). Here, the explanation is pointlessly given only in the presence of people who already know how the trick was done. It's a boring, lazy scene.

It's not that a mystery was explained away, it was the exact way in which it was done.

I think TheOtherJN referred to the first part of your statement, the same way I did above

Now when you talk about it, I suppose they really could skip that scene, but for me it made the episode more funny: first we get to see how it was planned, and then we get to see how the operation goes in reality. I'm not sure if I would enjoy the unexpected turn of events as much if not for that first scene

What even was the second half of this episode? XD I did like Fujiko's cartoonish fumbling with the machine and slapstick-esque violence. She certainly deserved it. XD Boy was that miser over the top though with his Scrooge McDuck money bin-style swimming! XD Hard to believe anyone like that would ever donate a fortune to charity, terminal illness or not. XD

I really enjoyed the part at the end where Fukjiko's electrocution resulted in her having temporary Lum Invader type powers.

Lol, Fujiko definitely deserved it and it was pretty cool to see her in a state like this for once.

Fujiko used Lupin again, and went as far as framing him for her death. But she was also betrayed and needed to be saved. Then Lupin started to work to get back at that old man, and I guess that getting back at Fujiko was also part of his plan from the start, and not something that happened only because Zenigata appeared and the machine malfunctioned. Well, Fujiko worked hard, and it was funny to see her being electrocuted like that lol, but Lupin wasn't going to steal a donation so he taught a lesson to both the old greedy man and Fujiko for once.
