That's it, Girls und Panzer confirmed for #1 of the season. I wonder how much more will it rise with further weekly, monthly and mid-yearly lists. It should already be 20k with DVDs if those ranked at all. |

Key findings: - GirlPan is finally confirmed of its TOPSELLER "hegemon" position for 2012 Fall season by overtaking Chuunibyou with this week's result as the first wave of re-stock is finally delivered. Some are disappointed that the total does not pass 20k this week (partly because Sound Scan, an alternative sales pollster, earlier put the total to 21k this week) but it is clear that it will surpass 20k "Big Hit" mark once the subsequent wave of re-stock delivery happens at the end of this month. The discussion in 2ch has now shifted from whether it will break 20k (it will) to whether it can overthrow KuroBas in its sales ranking position. - K is doing much better for its vol.4 compared to its previous volume, selling >1k more in the first week of release. Some attribute this to its bundle Drama CD being more popular but I am not 100% certain. Anyway, very impressive. - Initial-D is doing much much better than Amazon Stalker's prediction. This shows a lot of purchases were done in storefronts. It is clearly one of the most unsung heroes for this season, breaking 6k. However, compared to the >30k sales for the 4th stage back in 2004, the franchise has lost a lot of its allure it seems. Nonetheless we can tell the remaining core fans are still sizable in number. - KamiHaji is still moving up gradually in sales and has now broken the 6k line. It is easily one of the best selling shoujo shows in recent time. - The gap between better selling titles and bad selling titles is wide for this season. We don't even see one title that is between 3k-6k !! |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

I thought GuP DVD could get 800-900 in first week and somehow manage to get past 1.3k in three weeks. I think there might be quite a bit of people who decided to order DVDs when they saw BDs are out of stock and will be fine with getting BD Box few years later. That's a pure guess though. Glad to see Tari Tari continuing to keep its sales up as expected. Volume 5 includes a special treat: video of the five seiyuu singing a capella and mic'd for different songs, live with the Shirahamazaka high school choir! They can really sing, way better than all the idol girl bands who are dreadful live. Great to see and hear them singing. Was so glad to get my BD last week. Fun episodes on volume five as well. 9988 said: Isn't it the same thing? The work losing its allure to those who bought the anime back in 2004 is just the same as saying those people have turned to other things and not spending money on this anime any more. One thing you need to bear in mind is that those people who watched the anime and bought the DVD are now 8 years older. They may have stopped watching anime altogether or found other ways to spend money even if they are still in touch with anime. I think you focus too much on how the people in the anime fandom have changed in their taste, but yet those people are the same people 8 years ago. I would say my focus on the appeal of the anime for the original fan base (and DVD buyers) is more appropriate. Your way of thinking is still stuck too much on how the anime fandom is not what it was and so such-and-such work does not sell now etc.so no, for someone as wise and well informed as you present yourself on this forums the series has not lost it allure, simply tastes have changed 9988 said: Isn't that what I said already when I said in my post " Nonetheless we can tell the remaining core fans are still sizable in number." ? Getting too stuck with this kind of bent thinking and colored eyeglasses only gets you misinterpret what is happening in the anime industry these days. As Mary_Vanucchi said above, if only that is true, then we should see moe and fan service anime being top seller every season every year.Cant be helped when new and current fans have only eyes for mo... fan... ecc... and pandering. |

Since the great majority of anime are still adaptations, it's not usually up to the animation production studio to come up with ideas. It also seems a little harsh to say they're "out of ideas" after just two original shows that only share a limited degree of similarity. I'm not saying I necessarily want them to make more like that - I dropped both of the shows in question. But I don't think it has anything to do with not being able to come up with anything else. One cannot simply re-create an anime that is similar to Angel beats plot because of how complex it's story-line is, that's probably why? Well an anime is called an original piece for a reason... |
