THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The episode itself was pretty calm. Seems this is more a intro to what creepiness the new criminal shows in the spoiler
YOU SEE THAT!? That creepy smile haunts big ass time! I have not seen creepy shit like that in smiles since sometime and to think I had some Freddy reminding from Nightmare on Elm street horror series. That guy does exactly that! Creeps up like that on you. Well one hell of a creepy face with that smile. I would steer up my guards around that guy.

Other than our new little comer, Akane in the following,

Got MOEfied rather well. It was quite the positive side of her during this episode. Another good sign it’s a calm before the storm episode.

In fact Akane was shown quite sexy one of the tricks they used is in the spoiler
whenever they use closeups like that, it’s just beautifies characters and why not? Akane’s eyes and lips are to die for at least IRL Virtual Reality possible future. But yeah Akane’s eyes and lips are quite appealing and once again that part in the spoiler proves it rather well IMO.

Might add some more in the club later…..leave at that but it’s obvious our mastermind and leave with,
http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb480/Yumekichi11/Picture%2039/1354810314245_zpsc3fbf1a9.jpg
I think it says all that needs to be said of #2 creepy smile in this episode. One thing for sure, that smile sure means more shit incoming to steer up society…what will it be this time? That what is grinding my crime senses.

I agree, her anger was very well shown. Facial expression wise but then again so was the MOE so it was wise to keep that level of expression on Akane herself throughout the episode.

Well,(on a side note) I really liked that there are still non environmental-holo like areas in the anime. It decreased the superficial reality of this anime. :) Also, I think Makishima is an interesting person but we aren't getting any details about him so I think as a mysterious person he is doing well though I think if we got to see a little more back story we would see a better plot development or even character development. Also, I think Akane standing up for herself is good, and I think it's interesting that everyone is learning negative things about the Sybl system but no one is really questioning the authenticity of the system itself.

Actually now it reminds me after you mention it, that old ugly person in that Walt Disney Movie....Notre Dame Basilisk something. Where this ugly person is and no mother wants him and he got thrown out by his mother. Come to think of it the guy fits the role if only he would be shorter.

But yeah man, glad everyone is like creepily out by his face. Makes me feel less alone on that one Elite60.

Seriously who needs philosophy class when you've got Psycho-Pass.

Akane is really such an awesome main character. SHE ACTUALLY STANDS UP FOR HERSELF.

Kogami is great too.

I hate how this anime makes me hate a character and then feel bad for him within two minutes. Stop toying with my emotions dammit. ;.;

So this week mostly consisted of setting up the next arc and developing our main cast.

I'm glad we learned a little more of how Akane thinks through what the PP tells us about her but more importantly through how it shows her. So far in the series she's been a blank slate, a conduit used to explain the world to us since we're supposed to be like her. However this episode she made herself distinct and gave her a definition. When she and Kogami met Saiga, it was intriguing learning about what she was like when she was young. Akane earned brownie points in my book when she was confronted by Ginoza. Psycho Pass however resorted back to its excuse as explaining to Akane more about Ginoza instead of a more creative way which is a shame but not bad by any means. As for the backstory itselfself, it really didn't make me sympathize with him, yes I understand the circumstances of what he went through but that doesn't mean you should go on the extreme of never doing things yourself.

On the plot side of things, this world channeled it's Deus Ex with cybornetic implants through the assassin that killed Rikako Oryo. Toyohisa Sengui on the surface is a president of a major corporation but has the nightlife of an insane assassin. We learned that he made smoking pipes out of Rikako Oryo's bones.... Damn Gen Urobuchi just made himself even a little more demented. It turns out though that Toyohisa is hmmm.. a colleague of Makishima and is requested to kill Kogami. Right now I feel this show is in limbo or getting its hue clouded. Psycho Pass doesn't know if it wants to be a world driven show or plot driven. At the moment, I'm more interested about the world but let's hope another arc like Rikako Oryo can get me as excited about the plot.

I really appreciate how this episode took its time to explore its setting and let the dialogue flow naturally instead of rushing to the next case. Especially the dialogue between Akane and Kogami played out very nicely. Senguji, as much contempt his carnivorous mindset may evoke, makes some good points regarding cyberization. He points out the hypocrisy of those people who are opposed to modifying one's body while relying on and being dependent of other artificial products in their daily life, though one could argue that there is a significant gap between the latter and actual physical modifications.

However, it shows how the general public accepts changes as long as those changes happen slowly and indiscernibly, giving it some time to get used to them. But god forbid there's some integral alteration, then there will be resistance and protest against it.
I imagine that's how the Sybil System was constituted, since it's not like it was introduced from one day to another, but rather started off as an interesting concept that got developed further and further until it became totally natural for the citizens.
Most people probably don't even realize the shortcomings of their system or are too lazy to do something against it. After all, there is plenty of stuff to distract from the problems like the fancy fashion holograms and other entertainment sources. Censorship is prevalent, too, as shown in the last few episodes to order to keep opposing views down.

Is it just me or did Makishima seem displeased when Senguji talked about sacrificing other people's lives to maintain his health? Anyway, he seems impossible for me to read. His mimics remain ambiguous, never revealing what he really thinks.

Indeed it's quite different if I decide to have tattoo and I decide to gain muscles as vague at it may get. One is apparent while the other is not.

Hence DNA/genetics mods are quite not the same as cyber/bio mechanical add ons are.

So yeah Senguji has a rather narrow/stubborn concept and like Rikako, it needs to be explored as to why? Pretty much. What made him be like that and all? Is it only his nurturing or nature or both? Of course I refer again to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_vs._nurture
and certainly it's a major theme to consider in this series.

I love philosophical and psychological undertones!

Felt a bit like Ghost in the Shell when talking about cyborg stuff, will be interesting to see the show delve more into it in the next few episodes.

Moe is subjective. It essentially means cute/adorable. Some people may have found Akane cute and/or adorable. I didn't really find anything moe, but don't insult people who do.

Well that was a thought provoking episode with the last five or so minutes having huge payoffs. How dare she get all mad and angry at Ginoza. He is only ensuring that she doesnt get such a clouded hue and gets misguided and betrays him. Telling him off like that was rude and ooc for her. .

I thought the most thought provoking aspect was the discussion on being a cyborg and to what extent then relating it to that we have started to essentially have second brains because of all the information data warehouses that we keep stuff in in regards to electronics and etc. Sure its the future but it seemed like it was issuing a statement on today and something to keep in mind if such technology is being made in the future for human bio enhancements. I dont know, I personally dont think Id want to permanently entomb my mind into a cyborg.

Shogo there at the end being all amused at the mention of Kogami was wonderful. Too bad for the guy that he will most likely die on this hunt for Kogami. Still how is Shogo so immune to it, I wish we had more detail on what that clinical psychologist had to say and such or more background as Kogami was detailing to use before going into that swamp discussion. Though Shogo's crime coefficient, wonder how high it will be (can it even be triggered though if simple hue checks dont even catch it?)

Another good episode though that's expected now. As a few people said this appears to be the calm before the storm. Akane was awsome this episode, and the figh between ko and that hunter guy is probably going to be awsome. He's freakin creepy though I don't really feel bad for the psycho girl who met her end last episode making pipes or whatever from her bones is not okay wtf.

Well, at least they explained why Ko is so awesome as a detective and the others aren't. He studied profiling and crime solving with that guy. And he has experience. And the others didn't because of the side effects. Now I won't complain when he dominates the investigations.

Though I wonder why the old man isn't more active in the crime solving. Sure, he might not have Ko's knowledge, but we know he has some great instincts, as seen in ep 2.

Nice discussion about cyberization. Though I prefered when the cyborg was Major Kusanagi. THe bit about the second brains is related to a research that indicates that the way we store info in our brains is changing because of the internet. And there's also the old discussion about depending too much on machines.

Even though the cyborg is creepy and is probably a senile mind inside an immortal body, his idea of people not taking care of their minds is very valid.

Profiling teacher is an interesting character and it seems Akane will start to train too. Akane standing up to Gino was cool. Knowing more of her background too.

So Makishima won't hunt Ko personally. That's better, but still not prudent.

I'm surprised Akane can be angry at Ginoza. She's developed that much. If only there's some kind of revolution to Sibyl Sistem, I bet she'll be the leader LOL. This episode is quite foreshadowing, it's like telling me that Akane's PP will get cloudier sooner or later (but I hope not, it'd be so predictable unless it happens not because of Kougami)

That interviewer's face as he elaborated on cybernetics; clearly she was mildly disturbed at what he was going on about. Great job reflecting that animators! And the bone pipes. Oh god the bone pipes.

Akane standing up for herself? Way to take a step off weak female stereotypes! Whoo~ Aand then make me feel sorry for her victim later...

The full cyberization aside from the brain drew an incredibly strong connection to Ghost in the Shell. Just sayin'.
