Heh. Mahoujin Guru Guru got its name on there. The sales aren't particularly great, but it's a mid-1990s series, so nobody expected them to be. I wonder how the BD sales are for the series which are below it. |

Drrr!! is an Aniplex release, and most of those solicited after a certain date are unavailable for order on Amazon due to some Aniplex/Amazon dispute. Stalker isn't ueful for those releases, since it's based entirely on Amazon. Though Durarara!! was up months before the weird Aniplex/Amazon Japan thing started. |

Pikorin selling more than Hirano Aya? Now that is pretty entertaining to see, and quite unexpected if the corresponding NINKI was anything to go by. The KuroBas character songs are slaying! The series is definitely shaping up to be a pretty nice hit - nothing huge, we're probably looking at 10-k BD/DVD combined, but even that much should be slightly better than what the producers originally expected. At this rate, a second season might just be a matter of when. |

Not to mention its a WSJ series, if Mago with its bad sales got a second season, I don't see why I.G won't give this a Season 2 either considering the sales for the character songs which are going very well AND Stalker is predicting good BD and DVD sales for it. No huge hit, but a hit all the same. Other than that, Inu X Boku fell slightly but its still going strong. ^^ Over 9k! And next week may add a little more! Brave 10 certainly bombed lol. Persona 4 is going really well....have to watch it when I get the time. People say its good. all in all, really good week. :D |

It won't hit 10k, based on current rankings. It has been placing better than I expected, so at best it could get around the 5-6k range combined, but no more than that unless it suddenly has an explosive surge of interest, and quite possibly less. do good sales of character songs affect an anime? stalker is currently predicting 4k + 4k for kuroko. and sales go up a few days before its released so we might reach 8k with luck. |

Not sure exactly what you mean, but the production committee behind an anime will include a music distributor as well, so decent music sales are positive for at least part of the committee, yes. It'll have no effect on the anime's DVD/BD sales though. sorry, I should be clearer. As in...umm..does it increase the chances of a second season, especially since sales will definitely cross 5k? Forgive my ignorance but the Oricon includes sales of a DVD/Bluray other than Amazon sales as well too right? As in, if some people bought a Bluray on the anime's website or something? |

I dunno, the current predictions are placing it closer to 9k, aren't they? 4,8k for BD1 and 4,4k for DVD1. I know the series did benefit from the recent surge caused by the listing of the first volume's details, which does give Stalker's function some bias, but it's been pretty steady since then, even though the past episodes have been mostly build-up and not necessarily very exciting since episode 5. The anime still has a few major characters in store that should appear before the first volume's release and that are likely to cause a few more spikes as well. (I know I'm personally waiting on their entrances to decide on whether I feel like committing to a 2-cour show this season, but with the Amazon/Aniplex issues, Tsuritama is most likely going to be a pain to get, so...) I'm not really expecting it to go past 9k, but I think 8k should be a fairly safe guess. Edit: Didn't notice the posts before mine as I took forever to write it... |

Oricon covers hundreds if not thousands of retailers. Amazon is just one of many. I doubt they cover most if any direct sales through distributors, but nobody buys that way anyway. This has no effect on Stalker's estimates though, because Stalker is not estimating sales at Amazon, they're estimating overall Oricon reported sales with on a formula that correlates the Amazon ranking to actual sales based on historical sales trends. We have no idea what percentage of sales Amazon accounts for with any given release, but they're big enough that their rankings are usually at least fairly indicative of how a show is selling in the market as a whole. thanks once again. I always learn a lot from you. on another note, oh no! I forgot to see chihayafuru! T^T Uhuhuhu....girls what's wrong with you? Why don't you buy this beautiful piece? T^T Ah well. I was comparing it to other series. I explicitly compared to Haganai in an earlier post, and I looked at others while I was at it. I didn't just come up with "it's a larger drop than usual" out of thin air - I follow this stuff every week. But I wasn't going to spend an hour or two compiling all the data for a forum post, since that seemed like overkill (and I am at work after all =P). But the best way to compare would be to look at shows that, say... sold about 5k average or more (low sellers fluctuate a lot since every sale counts comparatively more), ranked every volume (otherwise vol to vol comparisons become meaningless), didn't have a heavily discounted first volume (since that skews things a lot) and came out in the past three years or so (just to compare apples to apples). All the better if the target audience is the same (teen to 20-something males, i.e. core otaku) as well. I already did Haganai, but many others meet the criteria: Amagami SS, Angel Beats!, BakaTest, Bakemono, Denpa Onna, Dog Days, Freezing, GA Art Design, HSotD, Hanasaku, Hayate S2, HidaSketch***, Hyakka Ryouran, Idolmaster, Infinite Stratos, Kampfer, Katanagatari, K-ON!/!!, Madoka, Penguindrum, Mayo Chiki, OreImo, and I don't feel like going through any more of the alphabet. But take your pick of any of those - almost all of them dropped less, often much less, and none particularly worse. I don't think GC did itself any favors by being 11 discs, because that increases consumer attrition even though it does mean you make more money from those who stick around because it costs so much more to complete it. I am not sure how we went from basically agreeing to that above. GC is fewer sales in it's first week. I didn't agree that such a drop off is "significant" at this time to warrant jeering. |

You said my comparison was "myopic" for not making an adequate comparison. So I took some time to do so. Nothing more or less. You did not make time to make and adequate comparison. All you did was throw out some ideas of what an adequate comparison from you would look like. Which still leaves the single sales comparison of vol 4 of GC to vol 1 deprived of context. Two very different things here: whether it's significant and whether it warrants jeering. And my post was aimed at a person who did both. If the data indicated that sales had not dropped significantly, I would have said so. You hopped into a reply that wasn't aimed at you. What you would have said is irrelevant as my initial post in this topic was not quoting you. |

I'm curious if you can articulate what it is you actually want to see, or if you'll just repeatedly say "nope that's not enough" until I lose interest in the discussion and go away. I actually find it a genuinely interesting topic, but it'll only be an interesting discussion if you're actually open to its conclusions. If not, let me know and I won't bother. I already said that particular comparison wasn't fair and shared what could fix it. The solution is basically doing the same comparison to other like anime. As no point in time did I even hint at that your idea was "not enough", it was just not how I would go about it. I would do it more like the weekly charts and have the comparisons for each ranking anime. Your plan would still provide more of a picture than just doing the math on a single series. Since you're still disputing the "significant" part, not just objecting to the jeering, of course it's relevant. My point is, don't reject the truth of their claims just because they're making them in really obnoxious ways. You can certainly reject their attitudes though, and I'll join you in that despite not being a GC fan. I've only seen episode 1 of GC on it's premiere, I am no fan either. There's no dispute about the significant part as I have already clarified that "my post at the time was mostly about from this moment forth." and as such you "basically agree" that the sales are more or less bottoming out and there isn't going to be a significant change in sales from volume to volume now. |
