Why isn't this pilot getting any love people? Come on! It wasn't that bad nor disappointing. Having watched the movies almost a week ago, I think the pilot gave me a well-deserved conclusion for my tour in the KOR franchise. It was funny, it had a different aesthetic that was very interesting and enjoyable, it gave me two new amazing songs, and let's just say, it took me back to when I was watching the TV show. The voices may not be as great, but you can clearly see which decisions made it to the TV show and which didn't. 7/10 for the pilot, if you are willing to take the differences aside, you'll see the foundations for the series we love to adore. Edit: Shoutout to my boy @tysonfist764 for reminding me to check this one out! |

Kimagure Orange Road is one of my favorite animes...I almost stopped watching animes back in 2016 as I was in final year of medical school which was very tough...thanks to KOR it not brought my interest back in animes but also changed my way of watching movies and other stuff. I never used to focus on background scores or insert songs...but KOR's music is something you can't ignore....It has one of the best anime OST and the way they used its background scores in some of the key moments during the TV series is just brilliant. I can share the link to its discography if you want to listen...thanks once again. Why isn't this pilot getting any love people? Come on! It wasn't that bad nor disappointing. I'm surprised this little gem from 1985 was well-preserved. I think for a pilot it was really good and did its job well. Of course the animation and voices are different. This pilot being an alternate version of episode 46. I'm glad this story made it into the main TV series cos it's really good! Main difference being the pilot takes place in a beach in Okinawa whereas episode 46 was in a ski resort which was more fun. I don't hate the voices in this episode. Obviously since we're used to the voices in the main series and movies it feels odd to hear different voice actors. But I think the voice actors did a great job without them voicing 45 episodes prior. I might actually prefer Hikaru's voice actress in this pilot more than the one we got in the main series for tone alone but that's about it. I won't talk anything more about KOR cos chances are there are a few people who might start the series with this pilot following release order. |

This is actually the second time that I watched it, I finished it more than a half hour ago. the first time I watched it, yes, I liked it, but not as much as the second time. I especially loved the scuba diving scenes between Kyouske and Madoka, what Kyouske was saying about it was actually quite romantic. And the fact that this was aired the same year that I was born, gives it extra special meaning to me. And I also really loved that opening sequence as well. Madoka looked really cool with those shades at the end of it. And yes, as some of you have recognized, the voices weren’t as good as they should be, but also as some of you have mentioned, it was a Pilot, so of course they were going to make some changes before the TV show. That’s how a lot of pilots work actually, to see what will and won’t work, if they choose to make it into a TV show at all. So yeah, I may have a bit of a bias, but I gave it an 8/10. |

Honestly, after finishing the TV series and checking out the pilot was a different experience. I felt like I was in an universe where this anime (episode) was made by different people. Like, when anime was made differently, different choices. Can't really explain it. Sorta like a butterfly effect. The voice actors are different, that's no problem, I loved how Kyosuke and Kazuya's hair were brown instead of blue - since it's a pilot, and mangas are in black and white, you can't really decide which hair color do they have... It's really hard, especially with the black hair color from the manga, I assume. I loved how different the story is in here. The main TV series is basically plays in winter in a ski center, and this pilot is playing in the summer at the beach. It was a pretty amazing 25 minutes I got :D |

As a pilot, it was okay but not amazing. Back then, I didn't know who Yuusaku or Hikaru was. I only know is that Madoka is this beautiful waifu. I watched this first so I can experience it without watching the tv series. It gave me a good enough motivation to watch the tv series, but nothing to write about. Perhaps, based on the comments above, had I watched the tv series first before watching this, I might have a different opinion. |
