**PLEASE PLACE YOUR ENTIRE POST IN SPOILER BUTTONS** For me... it's Dobby's. I cried like a baby the whole time Harry was digging his grave by hand. And then when Dean and Ron came to help... I just completely lost it. I still get depressed if I think about it too much. Note: Any response not in spoiler buttons will be removed as soon as I can get the powers that be to remove them I am editing this post to remove the requirement for spoiler buttons in this thread. Anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled really shouldn't be coming into this thread. That simple. My apologies for my short sightedness earlier. |

I still get depressed if I think about it too much. Same here! It was totally unexpected and before I knew it, tears came streaming out of my eyes and I couldn't get them to stop. Almost dropped some on my book. After I completed the book, I went back to review some parts. And when I read that part again, I cried again (but not as much as the first time). I left my bookmark in that area. Dobby is like the true hero of this book. |

Both Fred and Dobby. Definitely. Fred because the twins were the characters I liked the most and really didn't want them to die. ;-; And Dobby because he was a major hero in the book. And I just wasn't expecting him to die. At all. So it really shocked me. :/ |

I'd have to go with the majority here and say that Dobby's death was the saddest. The hardest part was having to read about Harry burying him the muggle way and how important it was for him to do it that way. I would be interested in knowing how George dealt with living without Fred. But on a more selfish note I was sad that Voldemort died because that meant it was truly the end = ( |

I'm gonna be original and say at the time they said Lupin and Tonks had died, together with the mourning of Fred - But the saddest part imo was when he was walking through the forest after he had used the resurrection stone |

I about boo hooed 'till I couldn't boo hoo anymore. I cried so much while reading this book, that ChibiNeko wasn't sure if she wanted to read it or not. She's still reading it (she likes to REALLY take her time with these books). |

Lupin and Tonks for sure...I mean they just had a kid and everything and then... But I'll also have to be different and say Hedwig. That was so sad! I mean, why did the owl have to die? She wasn't hurting anyone T_T |

Oh man ... so many deaths hit me so hard in this book. I pretty much sobbed my way through this book lol. And I hadn't slept for two days before the book came out so I was already tired, and I always go through the book in one shot without any food or sleep lol ... so like, by the time I was nearing the end of the book and got to the big battle, I was practically delirious and that just made the deaths worse. Does anyone here like Dane Cook? If so, have you ever heard that one bit he does about crying? And how you start sobbing and latching on to one phrase and repeat it over and over? By the end of the book I WAS LIKE THAT. Rofl. I was like, going through all this toilet paper because I had run out of tissues going "WHY... FRED ... YOU CAN'T KILL ONE TWIN. YOU CAN'T KILL ... YOU CAN'T KILL ONE TWIN ...FRED ... NO." I think at one point I might have said something about Fred doing his best. XD So yeah, Fred's hit me the hardest ... but I think it still would've got to me even if I wasn't crazy tired. Because Ron is my favorite character in the series but the twins were right behind him. And I think it was the cruellest thing that she could've done to kill just ONE twin. I never really expected her to do that, so after George lost his ear I figured that they were safe lol. Because I mean they (they? O_o) had already been injured and stuff so like ... whatever, anyway. What got to me the most was that he died in the middle of making a joke at Percy. I was like WHY THE FUCK DID YOU SHOW BACK UP DAMNIT. Other than that ... Dobby, Lupin, and Tonks all dying really impacted me. I never really cared that much about Dobby tbh, or at least I thought I didn't but when he died like, I sobbed so hard ... my eyes were all puffy. x_x I think because it was totally unexpected that it hit me so hard. Same with Lupin and Tonks, because they had just had a kid and I thought it was so terrible that this kid was sort of in this horrible situation like Harry was when he was a kid ... plus I really liked both of those characters. No one's said this so far ... but Moody anyone? Like ... I don't know anyone who got all like DEPRESSED about it but ... for me it was quite a shock because he was this ... well, admittedly, a little out of it by then but he had still been the best Auror there was ... so for him to just die so suddenly without much fuss at all was pretty shocking. |

Well, the biggest part he got was in the fourth book and that wasn't exactly the real Moody. Although, it was a pretty accurate impersonation. To me, he just wasn't much of a character to care much for. I am a bit sad, however, that he couldn't go down fighting. |

And I started getting misty eyes both times I thought Hagrad would die. I am sorry, my friend and I laughed when Hedwig died.. We had a bet on who would die and who wouldn't.. Yeah. We also read it in the same room.. (half the book) and.. I cannot explain. The death that effected me the most was Snape! Snape was my absolute hero, and as soon as he 'killed dumbledore' I knew there was a reason and that he was still good! I was right! Then with the entire plot being unvailed at the end like that. /me sobs other than that, Lupin and Tonks.. and Fred! *sniffs* |

I spend half the frigging book expecting him to show up and go all "Dead? Of course not. I was VIGILANT"[/random'] Aside from poor Moody, Fred shocked me pretty badly. I mean, the twins were untouchable! I was already shaken up when George lost an ear, so imagine how Fred DYING affected me #_# |

Yeah, I'd have to say that Fred's REALLY upset me. I definitely wasn't expecting that. I mean, the twins were probably my favorite characters because they always had me laughing. But Moody's and Tonk's death also got me really sad. When I read the part where those two were laying beside the other dead people (excuse the bluntness), I seriously had to read those few sentences like 5 more times because it just wasn't sinking in that they were dead. |

Oh, i forgot about this thread. I'll be the first to post my saddest death without using spoiler tags! Dobby was the one that surprised me the most. It was so sad to see him risk his life to save Harry in the manor...at least his final acts weren't in vain. Someone spoiled some of the deaths for me, so I saw Fred's and Hedwig's coming unfortunately. |

Thank you Chelle! But now I guess I dont need the spolier button huh? (>.<) That's okay- I'll just do it anyhow! I have to agree that Dobby's death was very sad, but I think that was mostly because I never paid much though to him as a character that would die. And the way JK Rowling wrote Harry digging his grave! The other deaths-to me- were pradictable, especially Lupin and Tonks, once they had a kid I knew they were kicking the bucket....but as a Lupin Fan it did upset me. I would have to say that Snape's death wasnt sad until after The Prince's Tale chaper, but boy after that chapter I was really chocked up. So his death hands down the saddest. One death that I didn't find upsetting at all and I don't see why people think its a random death that wasn't needed was Fred's. I didn't fine it sad and it was well needed for someone in that huge freaking family to die or it wouldn't make any sence why so many people died in this war but not ANYONE from the Wesley family So thats the end of my rant... ~ Ashwood23 |

Actually, Ashwood, Lupin and Tonks were orignially not slated to die. In an interview w/ JK Rowling, last year, she stated that one of her characters had been given a reprieve, and that in that character's place, 2 more would have to die. We found out who these were in a recent interview she gave after the release of the book. Lupin and Tonks were the "replacement" deaths. And yes, she said she wanted to show that war was brutal, and that children would be left as orphans. She also wanted something to "equate" to Harry losing his parents in the original war. But what about the character that got the reprieve you ask? According to JKR, it was Arthur Weasley. So originally, 2 Weasleys were supposed to die. However, JKR said that she just couldn't bring herself to kill him off because (1) of what happened to him in OotP and (2) he's the only good father role model in the entire series. So... there ya go. ^_^ |

Yeah Chelle very true, very ture. Are you member of Mugglenet.com? Most of the people, I find, that know the in depth stuff like that visit Mugglenet.com As a member of that site, I will have to say that is the best HP site! But abouyt Lupin and Tonks....I only meant that after Lupin said Harry was the godfather I knew they were going to die, while reading the 7th book. Before reading DH I had know idea! It was all rather upsetting! ~Ashwood23 |

I go to Mugglenet.com once in a while, but usually, I use The Leaky Cauldron for my info. Their site is concise, accurate, and IMHO, laid out a bit better. For me, anyway, it's easier to get around and get up to date stuff from them. XD |

I think it's a debate between Fred and Dobby!although all of the deaths made me cry!Except Voldemort and Bellatrix and all the bad ppl.I cried the most when i thought Harry was gone die. Also a nice part in the book is when Snape dies, its sad but I mean you see how he really loved Harry. |

I would hardly call it love for Harry that made Snape doing what he did.....it was all for Lily. He hated Harry for looking like, acting, and being the son of James. But it was all because his love was strong than his hate (and of course those lovely green eyes) that he did those things for Harry. ~Ashwood23 |

Destiny is unstoppable I cried the hardest at the death of Fred. I couldn't believe she would brake up the brothers. I myself am a twin and when I read that, all I could think of was "What if I was there...and that was my sister?" I was seriously messed up for a bit after that...but then again, reading from 11:00 to 4:00 in the morning might do that to you...^^; Like gravitation, undeniable |

Fred - Because Fred and George are a pair Dobby - Only because it was so sad, his whole death. Hedwig - At first, Hedwig's death did not bother me. But then I found a site by a Harry Potter fan who loves owls, even has one for showing at schools. Anyways, she pointed out that the way Hedwig died, in the cage and not flying free was not a good way to do it. And why did Harry have Hedwig with him? Wouldn't that be a dead give away of who he was? So, he should have let her fly to where ever they were going. Owls have the way of finding places. Or sending her to go stay at Grimwaulds for awhile and catch mice. Tonks & Lupin - It was so... bland. And it just was. I mean, it was barrily mentioned. Goyle - I think it was Goyle. I mean, I didn't expect that one. The whole scene was a panic and there was no way to save him. I know he's a bad guy, but... I can't forget that part easily. |

They all made me pretty sad . Tonks and Lupin leaving a son behind ,which reminds you of all the sad times Harry had to face like looking into that mirror in the first book and just sitting there looking at his parents, plus Tonks and Lupin were very cool. The twins were my fav characters and then to see one of them die :( leaving just George alone ? Too cruel and with Fred cracking a joke just before he dies ? Made me remember all the funny stuff him and George use to come up with. But before reading the Prince's Tale it probably has to be Dobby's death for me. He always loved Harry and then dieing whilst saving him :( Plus with Griphook talking about the unfair treatment magical creatures get and Harry digging Dobby's grave by hand it all made it even sadder :( |
Do you know of ‘The Magnificent Steiner’ ? The main character was normally a weak, sickly man. When he was in an emergency, someone would come and help him. A secret friend. But, the main character never realised...... that his secret friend....Was himself. Grimmer = Legend |

I know what you mean, that bit really got me since I really wasn't expecting it T^T Actually, that's the way with most of the deaths in this book - I honestly didn't expect any of them! I'm ashamed to say I hardly cried during this book; when I got it I read through it as fast as I could, terrified that someone would spoil it for me (the whole Snape-killing-Dumbledore thing was spoilered for me by one of my greatest enemies in life ¬_¬) so I wasn't able to properly appreciate most of it, and on the re-read I obviously knew what was coming up >_< I feel like I've missed out! But anyways: saddest death. Hmm, it's a toss up. So many caught me by the throat, and I was terrified for Hagrid (how many times did he nearly die?!?) but the ones that broke my heart the most were Snape's and Fred's. Fred's because - what the hell will George do now? Not only is Fred gone, but half of George is lost too! I broke my heart for George! And Snape was so, so brave TT^TT I was glad in a way, because finally Snape was free of this lie and able to tell Harry the truth (not the whole truth, eh Snarry fans? xD Ah, sorry, I couldn't resist xD), but he's my favourite character and... to die like that... TT^TT But still, the only moment to my memory that ACTually made me cry was Harry calling his son "Albus Severus" ~~ I totally wasn't expecting that right at the happy ever after, and it shook me up so bad~~!! <3 |

To put it bluntly... ALL OF THEM T^T I blubbed the whole way through that book on a plane xD got some weird looks from other passengers but hey, it was worth it. I think if I had to chose I'd say Hedwig, Dobby, Fred and Snape's deaths were the worst *^* Hedwig because I never expected to miss her as much as I did and I knew it was stupid - she's just an owl afterall - but maa~an did that make me cry Q___Q Dobby because that was one of the saddest bits of any book I've ever read - and again, he's just a house elf who - in all honesty - peeed me off a bit; you don't expect it to hurt as much as it does when he dies *sniffles* Fred and Snape were the very worst though. After all, Fred was my favourite of the twins throughout the whole series (don't ask me why I had a favourite when they're identical "^_^) and poor pooo~oor George TT^TT as Teriyaki said: "I broke my heart for George" TT______TT too~ sad. And Snape - poor, brave Snape T^T. My favourite character throughout the books he had to go and die and then reveal all his secrets and prove that beyond a doubt he was THE BEST CHARACTER OF ALL TIME T^T which just made it worse. Seriously. HATE to Nagini ¬¬ Though that chapter with Snape's memories remains my favourite chapter of Harry Potter history And @teriyaki: "Albus Severus" T^T though on reflection it should have been the other way round. Snape was so much better than Dumbledore. In fact, Dumbledore was a little bit of a prick really xD *shields herself from hate* ...though "Severus Albus Potter" sounds rubbish x3 |

Snape and Hedwig. The latter I really didn't see coming and I really don't like it, when animals get killed (probably gonna cover my eyes at this part if it makes it into the movie). I liked Snape's death scene, though I've read that many felt him worthy of something more. I don't know, maybe a talk over with Harry in person would have been good, and really I just don't see him jumping in front of Harry to save him or something... that would have been unoriginal imho. I liked the look in the eyes, the way Harry reacted and the memories later on. The death of the other good guys was sad too, and I was very surprised that both Lupin AND Tonks died. I know what Rowling said about this and I still don't think that this was necessary. Not to mention of screen deaths, we only know who killed them because JKR told us in an interview... |

I have to say that I practically bawled the first time I read it so I had to read it again recently. I bawled the second time too. But the deaths that struck me the hardest were definitely Hedwig, Dobby, and Fred. I loved Hedwig all through the books and he always was with Harry. Dobby was not a favorite character of mine but it hit me hard when he died after saving Harry and everyone. It was worse when Harry was burrying him the muggle way. Fred's death hit me the hardest of the three. I was a twin lover ever since the first book and after George lost his ear I cried and when Fred died I totally sobbed. Fred and George were definitely tow of my all time favorite characters from the books and I can't imagine one living without the other. Moody, Tonks, and Lupin also hit me hard but not as bad I guess. That concludes my rambling. |

I threw a sobbing fit a Fred's death. I saw it coming due to spoilers on wikia. But I was never prepared for the actual thing. Hedwig's death made me very distraught, being the avid animal lover I am. And he's practically never mourned or thought of again in the book! I disliked the death of Snape, because you finally learn the truth after wards; and it's very upsetting. Now, I'm not one of those weirdos who liked Voldermort, but I was selfishly very upset when he died 'cause it really meant the end. The end... -sigh- It was truly a great series. Anybody who believes otherwise is off their rocker. Either that or a complete idiot. Oh! I was also very upset by Lupin and Tonk's death. Poor Teddy... Outside of the seventh book, I was none too happy with the loss of Dumbledore and Sirius. Despite being fictional, I miss them all dearly. |

The first time I read it, I didn't cry at all. Probably because I had part of it spoiled by a friend who had beaten me in reading it and just had to call me to tell me, lol. I did however cry the second time at Harry's "death". I always like stories that emotionally draw me in. |

I can't decide between Dobby and Snape. With Dobby, we have this unexpected, heart-wrenching death scene followed by a funeral worthy of his heroism; the way it's all written will make you sob as if you were there with the characters as they clutch his small, bloodied body as they lay him to rest. Snape on the other hand had an ignominious death in which, at that point of the story, you're not sure whether to feel sorry for him or not. But as you read through the flashbacks and slowly realize that he had been one of the good guys all along and did not deserve to die like that, you feel this empty sorrow for him. |
