This may be a little late in the realization (I'm not really one to read about this kinda stuff) but did you hear that DB staff members got arrested on Sat Jul 21, 2007 @ 5:57PM at the Baltimore Convention Center.

It kinda sucks since we all know (for those who like DB anyway) their intentions weren't of a harmful nature, but I guess being so publicly there and kinda having their booth called "Dattebayo Fansubbing" would be a dead giveaway o_-; What're your opinions on this???

Wait, were they arrested because they fansub licensed shows or what?

I'm confused.

Or is it made up?

Quote from the site: "Family members looked on in shock as they tasered this individual repeatedly despite him not fighting back. Suddenly, the staff member began to convulse on the floor. Doctors would later say that the individual had suffered an epileptic seizure, possibly resulting from the repeated tasering. Officers claim they then mistook these convulsions for an attempt at escape and one of the officers fired his firearm, injuring the individual."

Come on! That's blatant police brutality there! No way this can be true.

Also, check out their motto on their front page: http://www.dattebayo.com/ and I quote: "Dattebayo Fansubs, LLC. We take internet seriously." The word seriously is in bold letters. XD

Wow, new update

Update: July 27, 2007 - This morning at 02:43, Dattebayo staff member ImpSyn, also known as David Pryor, age 29, was pronounced dead. His death comes following a gunshot injury inflicted by a state police officer during the execution of a search and seizure warrant on his home yesterday afternoon. David owned and operated a small website design company out of his home. He leaves a wife and two children, ages 5 and 3 respectively. ImpSyn recently joined our staff when we were recruiting for an opening in the finish editor position. Despite only having worked on a few episodes of our popular releases, he was eager to meet us and join in on the panel at Otakon this year. His family initially requested that his identity not be given on this website, however in light of recent events they have reversed that decision. Currently his funeral arrangements are in planning. David's lawyer has been updated regarding this issue and has assured us that appropriate legal action will be taken, however at this time additional details cannot be released.

I really liked to read it, maybe theres a possibility that sth like this could really happen, but not for a fansubgrp rather a criminal network, specialized for burn/rip/sell stuff^^

in asia piracy is actually very tightly connected to organized crime, and since it's too hard to find officers who aren't bribed by them it's obviously a lot easier to beat up fansubers.

still trying to find another source to confirm this...

Probably not in the near future. But what will happen in 5 or 10 years nobody knows, right?

For now, what we found is a brilliant piece of a fake report writing.
