THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Before Summer Wars (2009), there was Digimon: Our War Game (2000).

PS: So that's the origin of Omnimon!

This is one of my favorite movies and it's a shame the dubbed version really messed it up.

Call it nostalgia or simple preference, but I'm not sure I've seen a better localization of any anime for a good while.

Besides the incredible soundtrack, the dub added tons of extra humor (simple/childish one-liners to running jokes to seriously funny stuff) and Kari's commentary for some of the more significant moments flowed together so well.

I love how they did this movie in the style of the first one, it's so unique.

So Sora was upset that Taichi didn't email, but she wouldn't talk to 'him' on the phone... Ahh grade-school communication. *sigh*

I'd leave the birthday party in an instant if this might be my last chance to see Tailmon again.

How come Takeru is so tiny compared to Hikari still. XP

Guess Mimi bought that replacement hat after losing her last one.

It's so much more tense for them tahn usual, being behind these computers instead of fighting in person. x_x And this is a good example of internet trash-talking not helping the situation.

Too bad the others didn't get to see their Digimon! But maybe that program will be permanent now.

Sora and Taichi.. I gotta read a fan fiction about that.
Loved the film the art, the plot, and of course the characters.

I had never watched this movie as a kid, so I watched both the japanese and the english versions today for comparison. Even though I didn't like that in the english version they had cut off some minutes in order to combine three digimon movies into one (Digimon: The Movie), I have to admit that the comedy part was done pretty good. As expected, Hosoda's directing didn't disappoint and I really loved the characters' facial expressions and overreactions

Onto Digimon Adventure 02 now!

Just re-watched this. And that Omegamon's birth scene (japanese version) was one of the best Show-Don't-Tell scenes ever made. Just Beautiful.

It was interesting.
So, Taichi and Sora are a couple.
WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon combining was nice, he was OP.

Taichi and Sora were canonically speaking couple..interesting..
Anyway, great battle scenes, great story (i liked it, it was simple yet concise) and i like how this expands a little bit more about digimon lore (Omnimon, Gennai sending digimon into the internet).
The direction of this movie is great.

Trying to score it objectively, it would be: 8/10
Maybe 9

Watched this again after years and immediately after finishing tri. I was so disappointed in tri, but my god was this refreshing. Funny how anime from 2000 has better animation, direction, and writing.

Seems like Takeru has reversed. He is more childish in this movie than in the series.

Of childhood friends, yes. More? Never. This was only an internet or US peoples belief.

I was a bit worried that this wouldn't hold up 20 years later... but heck yeah, did it. THIS is the Taichi I love, he's perfect here (unlike Tri) and the movie is balanced the funny with the serious. I love seeing the old technology and how things worked twenty decades ago. It's animated well, the voice acting is spot-on, and MAN does the sound effects MAKE this movie. They paid attention to a lot of small details and I loved it.

If I had any criticisms... I have a hard time believing that some kids all over had access to laptops and PCs in 2000. Maybe I'm just late to the Internet but I know I didn't know what Internet was then until a year or two later. So seeing all these young kids just watching but no older folks is... well, it's unbelievable. Chances are it's the older dudes who'd be online and watching the fight, not the younger generation. I know Koushiro waves that way by saying the adults don't listen to the Russian girl, but that'd work for the <40s folks, but I don't think the 20-30 somethings would NOT watch an awesome monster battle on a computer.

Another thing I found odd is that the situation pops up on the computers, but only the computers for the kids around the world? Did it pop on the adults' computers and they thought it was an annoying pop-up and exited? It's an odd oversight; I know why it's written like that, just wish they gave a better reason for why no adults were involved.

Personal: this movie went by fast. It has the 3-arc structure and everything and the pacing is great, but I dunno, I didn't want it to end; I could have sworn there was more Yamato in this movie but it's more of Taichi and Koushiro movie with some Yamato; Sora's issues were pretty dumb, I'm glad because it kept her out of the movie but is it dumb.

Yeah. Not sure where they got that idea from, the JP movie only hinted at it and it seemed one-sided (Sora).

What a masterpiece. Hosoda showing us again why he's the GOAT of Digimon. Digimon is at its best when he's directing. Bolero returns as expected. That scene when Patamon got pinned then Yamato/MetalGarurumon and Taichi/WarGreymon charged at it then Brave Heart started up again with "Hashire! Kaze yori hayaku! Mezase! Sora yori tooku!" was hyped as fock! WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon gattai scene was amazing. Hilarious that the missile was heading for Taichi's house. I expected that. Love the Ryo cameo. Love the Taichi and Sora scenes in this movie. The adventure continues.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

20 years later, after having seen so many renditions of this in Summer Wars and other Digimon seasons/games, the movie still holds up pretty damn well. I love the character interactions, definitely the best this cast has ever been. The directing and animation is nothing short of amazing. The Omegamon scene is simply beautiful, quite fitting introduction for arguably the most iconic Digimon ever.

I also love that the movie is as long as it needed to be. The pacing was fast, but it's fast because it never wasted time not because of rushing.

It's sad that this is Hosoda's final work for Digimon. He brings so much to the franchise.

Rewatched today. Bumping it from 9 to 10. Birth of Omegamon is an absolute 10/10 moment and one of the best in the entire series. Not to mention Hosoda's direction is just phenomenal.

This was arguably the best Digimon short/movie and definitely the only part of the American "Digimon Movie" that I actually enjoyed. Even though the plot was basically a copy of that 1980's WarGames movie, I enjoyed it. The only complaint I have is that only 4 out of the main cast's 8 partner Digimon had a role here, and 2 of them barely did anything in the long run.

This second film takes place after the anime and they created a new threat, just to have an excuse to show it for the first time, the Jogress evolution, which appeared in Adventure 2. Here we have Omnimon, a fusion of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon.
This film is great, because Koushirou steals the show with all the technological artifacts he presents, even more so because he is, by today's standards, outdated. It's cool when it calls on the emergency mode of the telephone network or even a satellite system. Considering the standards of the time, Japan was already quite advanced.

Again the art is completely different, very animated, but many characters look like they're from another anime.
