Graduation, the last episode of Angel Beats, I wonder how this is going to-
Fuck you Hinata! If you aren't going to take this seriously, I'm not!
Though for the most part, it's touching in a way. All this time they've been fighting to stay alive, but now, they finally came to gripes on how pointless it was and decided to move on.
Shame most of the side-characters disappeared off-screen with no backstory, so what could have been a great finale just turns 'good' because of all the wasted potiential.
And then, there was two..
Well, this came off as bittersweet, I guess this finale wasn't too bad after all, I mean, Jun Maeda-
Without any real explaination, they are all alive?
I just.......... huh?
This ends without any real conflict or resolution! And better yet! Explaination! So they were in a coma the entire time? What was the point of the school? Why did Naoi and Kanade have powers in the afterlife? I WAS ASTROBASE BEFORE YOU EVEN!
That was nice, I wish there was a bit more explanation though, and maybe everybody in the real world..like what happened to everyone? I like how it leaves the ending open to interpretation...I assume this means no season 2 though.
For me I thought that was just after they bad been reborn, many years later. I mean the character design was a tad bit diffrent, though I would have made them look even more diffrent with just a few defining characteristics to remain.
Overall this finale was a bit of an anticlmax, but not in a bad way. Is till thought it was very enjoyable.
KEY! LISTEN TO ME! NEVER AGAIN MAKE ANOTHER 13 EPISODE SERIES....JUST DONT!!
Wasted potential all over this series, and while the final episode had some touching moments it was handled to poorly I cant even decide if I liked the episode or just hated it.
Yuri's disappearance was unclimatic and retarded....they are really gonna let the main character go just like that? bullshit
Kanada/Otonashi moment was the highlight of the episode, but wtf happened to Otonashi? What is the true state of the world? Were they really dead or in a coma? Why was there another Kanade/Otonashi in the real world? WHY SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS!
He better answer these things on the extra bluray episode...I swear to god...
While I have really enjoyed this series and really wanted to rate it higher, I cannot give this anything over 8/10 because of so much left unresolved. But im damn sure all the fanboys will think of this as an incredibly sad and masterpiece episode...bleh

It was explicitely stated that Kanade got Otonashi's heart transplant and that her regrets from her previous life were never being able to thank the one that allowed her to life on. So yes, he did die, no coma ending. So the bit at the end must have been their next life.

Yeah, after reading through your post, I must agree that while I love KEY I cannot excuse the wasted potential for what could have been an AMAZING 24 episode anime. I bump my score from a 9/10 to and 8/10

Ok...
Now let's move forward to some angel beat doujins

ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER
Eh, not bad for my first time watching a Key animation. Also, 200th anime completed~! ^_^
At the end of it all though, my final verdict is: More explanation needed.
It was explicitely stated that Kanade got Otonashi's heart transplant and that her regrets from her previous life were never being able to thank the one that allowed her to life on. So yes, he did die, no coma ending. So the bit at the end must have been their next life.
So, they were worried about being reincarnate into a water flea, when it turns out that they are reborn looking the same in their past lives?

The shadows are gone, but Yuri's still here. Kanade said Yuri's weight should be already gone. Naoi was going to use his power.. Yuri stopped him.
Yuri is happy that Kanade called her name.
They are inviting Yuri for what Kanade never done before...
They are walking to the place. The one who became NPC regained his soul. Yuri is not surprised, or rather... she's relieved that the program is set so that the one who became NPC will regain his soul.
Otonashi asked what Kanade was singing. Yuri said "My Song".
So they are going to do graduation ceremony. They told Kanade ceremony is fun in preparation part and that girls tend to cry.
Yuri is still afraid of being disappeared.
Otonashi commented that she's less being a leader when everyone else disappeared. She's like a normal girl, he said. Hinata's comment is lol~.
They are going to sing anthem, which Kanade made it and Yuri is shocked.
lol @ the anthem (especially adding mapo tofu!!). Hinata says it doesn't make sense! Otonashi understands her for having everything into the lyric.
lol~ Hinata was lost in janken so he needed to do that outfit (to act old) and do the handing of the diplomas that made by Kanade!!
Yuri said it looks nice on him, and he said leave him alone.
Naoi acts so proud in front of Hinata, the presenter.
After Otonashi getting his, he told Hinata to take the outfit off and took out his diploma!!
Otonashi doing the speech, which he talks about how he met Yuri first and became the member. Also, how he accepted his life by regaining it, so he wants everyone to feel that as well. Everyone accepted their life in the end, including those who left behind. He won't forget the bond he had with everyone (then crying a bit while saying that).
Then singing again. Naoi and Hinata arguing over singing too early... lol
At the end Naoi said he doesn't want to see girls' crying face so he's leaving first, but actually he is crying. He thanked Otonashi, who approved him to leave.
Yuri saying why fought Kanade most of time and not become friends much earlier. She is the oldest, so she could teach her everything since she looked naive. Yuri hugging Kanade. After that, Kanade greeted the guys good bye. Otonashi said thanks for the care, and Hinata said you be relaxed because she had been the busiest one for being the leader.
Hinata letting Otonashi being with Kanade alone, so he left first. Hinata thanked Otonashi for being here, so that everything would start acting. It was coincident, Otonashi said, because he forgot that he lived a peaceful and fulfilled life, so he came here. Hinata said so he (Otonashi) is really a special being then. Otonashi said to say hi to Yuri when he met her. He's gone when he did friendly gesture.
Two of them left. He asked Kanade how was graduation. She said it was fun but is so sad at the end. He said they are reincarnated. He invited her to go out to get some air. He asked if she wants to say here to help out those who were unfortunate like Yuri and others came in the first place. He said let's stay here so that they can help them out and do graduation at the end. He confessed to Kanade that he likes her. She doesn't want to get disappeared by saying her feelings.
Kanade was the one who got Otonashi's heart so that she could live longer, so she came to say thanks to him. So she has his heart inside her. The only regret is for her to not being able to say thanks to the one who saved her, which is Otonashi. She realized it instantly when she saw him. He had no heart. And the reason he was able to regain his memory was because he was sleeping on her (to be exact, his heart, and listened to it bumping).
Kanade asked him to say what he said earlier, but he is afraid of saying so because he's afraid that she would get disappeared. She wants him to make her believe that to be able to live is a wonderful thing.
He hugged her while saying "I love you" and be together forever. She said thanks, thanks for loving her, and said what she was regrettable for (thanks for making her live). So Kanade is gone. Only Otonashi stays.
And that ED image with getting people disappeared one by one (including Otonashi).
Kanade living (reliving) and that guy who looks like Otonashi (or probably reincarnated?... this is just my guess) realized her and trying to get her notice.
P.S. According to the official twitter on official site, Ichiban no Takaramono in this ep. was by karuta and that this ver. will release on July 28, 2010 (different from Yui ver.)
icyhandofcrap said: So what's the Kanji for Hinata Hideki?
I'm guessing 日向秀樹. ED didn't show his full name and that diploma thingy was blurry for everyone.
Edit: TOOO Disappointed about TOOO little appearances (comparing to other members) for Yusa, the initial reason that I began to watch Angel Beats!
Well, at least it's not completely the end for now because we still have Angel Beats! Special to wait for.

Uhm...this was a nice ep, not the best but I liked it. I loved Yuzuru x Kanade moment, and Yuri is awesome ~
Sad that this anime was only 13 eps, if it had been longer it wuold have been so much better... But for me is still the best work, after clannad, made by Key.
The ost was also great, I will miss this anime. 10/10
There is a lot of plot twist that can't not rated this 10/10, but it's end very sad but they meet again in Afterlife.
We didn't see Otonashi disappeared after Kanata but what I believed he did also disappeared after her.
If your love a person that much your memories in your heart will still remember the afterlife.
There is hardly people that remember they previous life.
I wil give this 7/10 :)

Yama-chi said: Sad that this anime was only 13 eps, if it had been longer it wuold have been so much better...
I agree with you Yama-chi. It would have been a lot better with some more eps(thouhg it's also super-great as it is). If they had made some more, we would not only have gotten to watch some more of the anime, but the writers would have had more time to make it better, deeper, with some more meaning and maybe even funnier(;D).
To the guys who say this anime isn't good: I don't see why you people complain so much about this series, I get, like, amazed by how great it is! And even when you're saying that it's bad, you're still there on the net to watch it, each and every week, only seconds after it get's released, for you to even bother to do that, you must really quite like it. If it's that bad, why do you even watch it at all?(I'm not saying that you shouldn't say what you mean, but from my point of view, it seems pretty stupid...)
Well, then, I guess there'll be no 2. season :'( Can't believe it has ended this quickly, feel like I started watching it yesterday
Some quick explainations.
Otonashi is a bug -> He does not have top follow the rules, in fact a bug should always disrupt the rules, thats why they are called bugs. Time diff may simply be due to this.
Takamatsu got cured (mentioned in dialogue), likely by Kanade or Takeyama using the Angel Player software.
The ending showed they were reincarnated as they did not know each other. Further explaination as follows
i) So why did they not become a water flea?
Reincarnation depends on good or bad deeds done in prior lives. Also to note, any short lifespan animal/lifeform they became would not impact very much. Eg. Yuzuru became a water flea and died in a month. He gets reincarnated again, etc
ii) Why would he meet Kanade?
Going with reincarnation motto, this is translated as fate, which links one to another. This link may change the relationship in the next life (eg, a person's mother may become the daughter or even son of a person in the next life) but because of the link, there is still the chance of meeting each other. Clamp manga reference this relatively commonly
iii) Why the heck do they look the same?
That's for the viewers. If they showed Arakawa's Nino and bleach's Ichigo in that short segment, you would have gone "huh????"
Tenshi's more love than usual (She'll always be Tenshi for me~), and Yuri's more tsundere than usual.
And that song is absolutely horrible. (lol Mapo tofu~)
The second one.. Is worse.
Countdown to dispersion:
Naoi gone: Check ✔
Yuri gone: Check ✔
Hinata gone: Check ✔
Tenshi gone: Check ✔ D': <3
Otonashi gone: Check ✔
Wut end: Check ✔ O.o
Also. Despite the disappointment that I've been reading about like.. Everywhere. I was pretty satisfied with this anime, from start to end.
Did, like, very much actually.
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.
Is it time for my long-awaited return to the forums? щ(゚Д゚щ) Nope™, probably not.
I know that many people hate this series, but I can't do anything but give it a 10. This was one of the best shows in the last years imo.
(Btw I know that there were some plot holes, but I could still enjoy the series fully, that's why I give it a 10. It left me with a feeling in my stomach, that can only be caused by great stories)
A rollercoaster in terms of quality. Easily the worst Key anime, but this final episode had some touching moments, the animation was consistently great and I actually liked the comedy for the most part. So it gets a strong 6/10.

Agh, I am such a sucker for these endings.
I understand that this was a failure compared to Clannad and Kanon when you consider how rushed, inconsistent, and random some of the stuff way, but meh.
There is just that delightful Key element to all of this, and I can't help but love the series anyways.
Not to mention how bad most of the other shows this season were...
I guess I'll just keep on going with Heaven's Door. That should be good since there shouldn't be a rush on a manga.
