im not gonna lie i thought this episode was amazing, i dont see the reason why people proclaim this as the second coming of christ but i guess my expectations were too high, and yeah i caught up with the return to saobody arc 3 years ago and i still have to catch up with one piece currently. ive watched way better episodes from one piece than this one. idk am i delusional?

There are a few episodes that would have an even higher score than this special, if they had separate entries that is.
No, this isn't my signature.

I think it's different than just a random episode in the show that may be better in certain aspects because it's a self contained special that as far as I am concerned, can't get much better within that criteria. One off specials are usually about the same as any normal episode, full of fanservice, or have silly things happen that people could find funny. It's rare to have one take a serious approach that only adds to the original piece in a great way and do it so well. I'm sure the score will come down over time but I don't expect it to drop too much.
Also it's only "safe" to watch if you've seen 522 episodes of the original so unless someone wants to be spoiled, most watchers are fans of the show already.

The thing is that this is not only an amazing episode of One Piece but simply an amazing episode for the art of animation as a whole. Also for the short run-time it tells a great story and it even manages to make the viewer sympathize with unnamed characters you have never seen before. No matter how you look at it, this episode is special and achieves things in 24 minutes that most full cour series do not achieve during their whole runtime.

see there are few reasons why i oove this short episode because
it has short time in which it told a great story
showed us the effect of paramount war on the nameless characters made us sympathise with them within 20 minutes the camera angles for all the new improved scene and the mc of the short episode was also intresting
and it tells a episode in the way of a fan how we speculate which character is best or strongest which made me very happy and enjoy the show even more and animation was the best for the best war in the show

and most importantly it came at a time when one piece has announced a 6 months break because of which this episode made a slightly high impact and very important is the ending song which is perfect in every way like homlander says
and ending scene set sail which made me cry for 2 reason 1st its a symbol of ending in alabesta arc and 2nd how much important there sailing to sea was after 2 years training
so yeah that is why i liked this episode

I dont know what more you want to make it good, the directing and the animation stand alone is like never seen before, as a artist myself this was something on another level, like I have watched a lot of shows but holy shit this level of animation and directing quality its just unbelievable.

Pretty sure most people watching it are superfans of one piece for staying so long. Sequels generally recieve less views, but get higher ratings than former seasons since many of the nonfans drop out.

It's a double edged sword, sometimes passionate fans also don't like the work which results in worse rating.

@Zarutaku Yeah, if this Fan Letter special episode fares so well in terms of scores, I can imagine at least two One Piece episodes that could've had similar mean score. Maybe even a higher one. Objectively speaking, Luffy going Gear 5 episode was technically superb in almost every aspect to the Love Letter. The only inferior element was not having scenes with lighthearted life of regular folks (obviously), which might be the biggest advantage of the Love Letter.

But some "chilled One Piece fans" are gonna mald when you say it, or that you didn't like the special that much, claiming that you're a fake fan who watched it only because Frieren ain't top1 or whatever other reasons they saw in their hallucinations. ;D Kinda hilarious, but somewhat upsetting.

You are not delusional. In my opinion 1015 is still the best episode in One Piece and is better than this episode

Maybe some moments in a One piece episode would be good .
But This episode was
- a complete story ( Good + heart touching ❤️)
- consistent Animation with awesome Artstyle ( best ngl )
- Unique than other episodes and open a different perspective of viewing one piece.
If this episode was before koby's speech , people would recognise koby more in marinefold .
( although I'm a certified koby Hater )
- Relatable kinda as they are also fans like we are .

That's it I don't think as a whole episode, this is the best episode in One piece or Any Special of other series

@Adnash lol look at the comedy on display here again. this is what happens when you watch one piece on tiktok, you think luffy going gear 5 episode is one of the best in the series lmao. the fan letter is objectively better. better pacing, no reused scenes and more consistent animation. there's A LOT of better episodes than that in one piece, it isn't even the best out of all the 6 episodes that gear 5 was featured during that fight. stop acting like you've watched it, it's clear as day that you haven't and it's giving second-hand embarrassment at this point.

@ryzxgum My friend, do you have any obsession regarding me, so you have to maniacally hunt for my posts and rant about them? 😂 At least read them, preferably with at least minimal caution. Technically I consider ep. 1015 and ep. 1071 better than the Love Letter, with the latter, to which you referred, as much better in terms of technicals. If you are that curious, I prefer ch. 1015 out of the two aforementioned episodes. But no need to elaborate, you will just see what you want to see. You not only had to nitpick and just ramble about "no it's not like that!!1 I disagree!", but also claim that me not liking the Love Letter that much equals not watching One Piece at all. ;D

I wouldn't call your rants as the comedy on display, though. They are not even pathetic, but rather sad. I wish you all the best.

@Adnash it's really not that hard to open a thread, read a username and remember the ramblings of a certain goof. welcome to the internet. thanks for wasting my time by moving the goalpost again talking on a subjective level when i've already said why there's objectively better episodes mentioning things like pacing and reused scenes.

You aren't delusional, there are better episodes, not in terms of animation but in terms of writing, the reason why this episode is so high is because its just 1 episode, compared to the other one piece which has 1122 episodes.

This is a love letter to one piece and it's fans. If were strictly talking about what's it trying to do, this is a easy 10, as a fan of one piece for years now, I was in tears the whole time. I can only imagine how a decade old fan would react to this.

Also yeah there are definitely better episodes but this is ones special for a long time fan.

@chukesh007 You guys are just overrating the episode because of your biased love for the series.

Pokémon Twilight Wings and PokeToon does exactly the same thing for a highly beloved franchise and yet they're barely scratching a 7.50 score.

@ShadowUnown Pokémon twilight wings is genuinely one of my favourite Pokémon projects but the 5 minutes standalone structure is probably the reason it isn't highly rated so the comparison isn't the best

This special is emblematic of the ideas of One Piece as a whole. Like, this shows the impact the Straw hats have had on the entire world at the ground level, how no one truly makes it on their own, stuff like that. It's also pure fan service while keeping a consistent tone with the rest of the series.

That's what happen when the series is mostly watch by die hard fans. Just look at the member counts of this one and the original. And we are taking about one piece fans here they are known as the most obsessed anime and manga fans. So, the result is inevitable. Probably the same thing will happen when they will release the new remake and remaster version of some arcs.

@Guilmon1 Thing is, it is the best comparison, too perfect actually. It has every positive point the guy there just said, including the "perspective of a fan" and superb directing and animation. I dont see how the duration of each episode is relevant here, if its "5 minutes" each episode (actually 10 for the last and best one, which you can most easily compare with the conveniently similar "OP Fan Letter", thats half the time of it already) that means 35 minutes total at least. But still:
Pokemon Twilight Wings - 7.52
One Piece Fan Letter - 9.26 (!!!)
...Okay??...
