Lawrence reflecting all the times he's been with Holo is affecting him more and more. I mean, some of those memories includes her worst fears. Tbh, I think this and some of the more recent episodes does a solid at job characterization and exploring how Lawrence reacts to circumstances.

Despite all the drama though, this episode still added bits of business to the mix. It never forgets about the economics side of the franchse.

I mean he isn’t getting any help out of people who work in normal professions, so it makes sense Lawrence would have to go as far as taking help of alchemists, through Diana. Sure it feels such a desperate move, but yeah losing to that guy who’s only looking as far as getting that one night down with Holo would be the biggest insult one could ever suffer. By the way, I always like how it feels there’s a mystery behind Diana’s charm. Doing regular business with those kinda guys should not be encouraged much xD

Would like to say Lawrence does have that one good friend. Liked Marc’s role in this entire arc as well. That conversation with that music playing in the background did give Lawrence enough motivation after all. Btw, the idea of crashing the price by making the valuable “invaluable” ain’t half bad. But that solely depends on Lawrence receiving those pyrites in huge quantities from Diana, so yeah:( Enough with Amati and his presence tho, I mean I'm glad it feels like the next episode this arc is over.

Batos my GOAT.

Having made a contract with Fermi to sell on credit, Lawrence scrambles to gather the promised quantity of pyrite. On Marc's advice, Lawrence learns that an alchemist possesses a large amount of pyrite, prompting him to visit Diana again. Although Diana is willing to help with Lawrence's request, it turns out that another buyer, also seeking pyrite, has already approached her.

With each passing episode of this arc, Lawrence is becoming more of a gambler than a trader, and not a very good one. His actions aren't surprising given his current emotional distress. The episode didn't reveal much except Lawrence's final plan. Even though the last scene made it seem like Fermi might win, I still think Lawrence will outtrade Fermi.

BTW, there will be no episode next week due to coverage of the Paris Olympics.

Yet another week not being married to Holo. Another good build up episode that gets us one step closer to the big showdown between Amati and Lawrence. Still a little confused on all the microeconomics of the situation, but I think I’ve got the gist of it lmao

Marc, Batos and the alchemist are all great friends and business partners for Lawrence and I like how they all kind of gave him bits of advice to help him see the clearer picture with he and Holo’s relationship.

“What’s more precious than money?” It’s about far more than just business at this point, go get your girl back Lawrence! Can’t wait to finally hear his answer to Holo’s “what am I to you” Marc certainly deserves more than 10 lumine for all the game he put Lawrence on today 😂

I’m actually quite curious to hear those stories of pagan gods and humans getting together that the alchemist knows about.. the way she looked it kind of made it seem like it hit close to home for her 🤔 she’s lowkey best girl for everything she’s done to help.

That smug look on Amati face at the end of the episode.. he’s up to something and I think Lawrence may have just got finessed. We’ll see how it goes next week but I got a really bad feeling. Would be just Lawrence’s luck if Amati caught wind of the Pyrite play and did something of his own with the gold coins

It was an okay episode, felt transition-like to set up the big episode two weeks from now (due to next week being an Olympic-related delay). Loads of exposition this time around, some of it interesting and handy to have to explain some of the economics present in the situation at hand with the Marc and Lant conversation at the end there with Lant asking how Lawrence has a chance of winning here (although I did take some economics in high school and in university so it was simple enough to get the gist of it for me in this case). The plan of getting the price to crash isn't off to the best start yet with the prices still rising but Lawrence's hoping that his big time gamble can pay off well. He's been pushed to the brink in the first 2 volumes and got off easily by the end and that kind of situation and luck will be put to test here too. For how long he has been a merchant and can talk the talk, his actions haven't translated consistently well enough to constantly rely on gambles, luck and emotions the way he has done. The visuals were pretty rough at times, crowds looked poorly drawn and some static frames are present. Drawings of characters looked slightly clunky this time around too. This isn't a big-time episode so this getting the production it did isn't that surprising to me. The whole arc's setup has been weak to me but this episode in a vacuum wasn't too shabby. Was nice seeing Diana again too.

Being a merchant sure has a lot of different considerations. While money can't buy love at the very least it can give one the advantage in any kind of contest. Curious to see how this contest of theirs goes.

Damn. Amarti possibly had the idea to buy pyrite from alchemists too and probably beat Lawrence to it. Of course, he did.

Batos deserves some credit for helping out Lawrence. But I noticed once again that the visualization scene of Lawrence pushing a cart on a muddy road was cut. These types of scenes get cut pretty often in the remake. I wonder why. If I'm not wrong, the director is the same guy. And besides some of these cut scenes, the directing doesn't feel too different from the original for me. Maybe the remake has less budget/time so they can't animate more unique scenes per episode? Shame if that's the case.

"You are the protagonist of this story." Good one, Marc! He and his little apprentice are the real MVP of this story. I also liked how they extended their conversation at night was extended a little bit compared to the original. Maybe that's why some other scenes are missing or some conversations feel faster.

Man, seeing Holo beside Amarti must've stung for Lawrence. And Holo might've actually teamed up with him and given him advice. If Lawrence has to fight against Holo's wisdom, it might be over for him. But that's probably not gonna happen.

The duel is getting intense. It sucks that I'll have to wait longer than usual to watch the next episode due to the Olympics.

Batos was a bro and led Lawrence in the right direction, Diana did the same even if someone else was trying to buy her pyrite already, and of course there’s Marc who has been a bro among bros for this part of the arc. I really liked that conversation between Lawrence and Marc, was definitely very eye opening for Lawrence, and once again displayed how great a friend Marc is when he even offered for Lawrence to sleep at his house, but Lawrence wanted that Holo experience lol.

But even after all the help Lawrence has gotten, that last bit between Amati and Lawrence left a bad taste in my mouth, something didn’t feel right about that exchange, also seeing Holo with Amati stings too, he definitely hasn’t done anything outright terrible but I am beginning to see why he’s hated lol, he is the villain of this arc after all. And it’s a shame the next episode is delayed because of the Olympics, don’t they know we’re right in the middle of Spice & Wolf lol, but I’ll probably blink and it’ll be here anyway so it is what it is.

Another episode of no Holo☹️
Last one was good but this dragged a bit. Lawrence jumping from confident to insecure as soon as seeing Amati with Holo is kinda hard to watch.
Marc is carrying this show for last 3 weeks.
This arc is weakest so far, atleast give a good ending where simpboy Amati finally get his teeth kicked in

Lawrence scrambling throughout the night before his duel. Trying anything he can to manipulate the price of the pyrite so that Amati can't sell it for enough silver coins. Going back to Diane to see if she has any he can buy, which was a good idea just too late. She doesn't divulge the name of the quicker buyer but it's obvious that Amati came to her first. While he didn't directly buy the pyrite he did reserve it for future purchase. Lawrence could still buy it the price is just much higher than it would be otherwise. Him asking Diane if there are any stories about pagan gods falling in love with humans was very sweet. I loved how during different moments in this episode it gets addressed how Lawrence is becoming infatuated with Holo. His feelings for her have shifted over their journey. Marc brings it up later on that Lawrence looks just as he did when he first got married. With the price of the pyrite going up so high now nobody wants to sell there's since they don't make a profit. Anxiously waiting for the first market bell to ring none other than Amati walks right up to Lawrence. Having already gained half of the one thousand silver coin value he needs to secure Holo. Its time for Lawrence to execute his plan he's laid out and get Holo back!

This was one of my favourite arcs in the manga. Yes, it's a lot slower with a lot more buildup, but the economics is what drew me to the series in the first place so that's fine by me. It'll be fun to see it animated in the new style.

As per usual, the Olympics ruining things for people who don't care about it. I get that it brings in a lot of money for the stations but it's 2024, just air stuff online. See y'all on the 12th.

Aaaaah, darn it, the episode ended so quickly. While we've seen Lawrence get desperate several times before, he always managed to do something to solve it. This time was no exception, of course, but the ending left me worried. He forgot to count the coins from that smart and cunning brat (damn that smug kid; he'll see when he's beaten at his own game), and the sound of the bell startled him. Well, he's in the final stretch of that dispute, so it's understandable to see him like this.

Lawrence already knows what Holo means to him. He asked the chronicler about stories of budding love between pagan gods and humans, which gives us a clear idea of what Holo signifies for him; he might not say it directly, but I long to hear it from his own mouth and heart. Holo seems more distant with each passing moment, and it's clearly a psychological blow for Lawrence, complicating and distracting him in these final moments. It sincerely bothers me that they're fighting, because it's not a normal fight—it's one that has escalated to an extreme... An extreme that neither of them deserves, especially Lawrence, considering everything he's doing to keep his 'burden' by his side. But it's something he wants to do himself, so I have no objections.

PS: My respects to Marc and Batos for all the help to Lawrence, what great friends.

There's literally no way you could've figured out this was a "context clue" unless you knew beforehand, i.e. you read the source material/watched the original anime. It's foreshadowing that only makes sense in hindsight.

Imagine being smug for this, yikes.

@stevejawbs I've neither read the source nor watched the second season of the old anime. Again, you guys simply have tunnel vision when it come to plots like these. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going on if you paid attention to everything Lawrence and Holo have been through so far or how they've been characterised. I mean I did it, so it's perfectly doable for an average viewer.

Is this what they call skill issue? Heh. Or is this the classic "I haven't figured it out, so I won't concede that there are people who have," situation? lol

Considering you think Tensura is peak, I can make a fairly educated guess.

You know, I can give you a full breakdown of the whole process using which I arrived at the conclusion that I did. But, you know what? I'm not a teacher by trade, and I'm under no obligation to validate myself to a stranger on the internet. All I wanted to do was assuage the worries of people distressing over the whole "NTR" thing. So, I'm just gonna let you wallow in your ineptitude.

Hope you have fun being wrong.

Marc is the MVP for this arc in my opinion. He's a kind guy who's done plenty to help Lawrence with his issues while also giving him some needed advice and this episode was more of the same as well. Batos also deserves respect for being helpful and kind to Lawrence in his time of need as well.

All that is left is to see how the price of the pyrite goes on the day of his duel with Amati. It does hurt to see Amati hanging around with Holo, looking more smug than ever before, which unnerved Lawrence a lot. We shall wait and see if Lawrence's plan to swing the duel his way will work or not.

Sadly, the next episode will be an extra week's wait die to the ongoing Paris Olympics, but I think it'll be worth it. =)

Lawrence seeking Batos for the sale of pyrite, knowing full well that Diana is the catalyst between him and Amati, he's willing to help a friend link him to the alchemists' suburbs to find her in the hopes of purchasing some pyrite. Instead, even with the feathers password that he has, Diana has pyrite to sell to him, even if she knows that Amati has placed them on reservation as credit. And as a merchant herself, she is not willing to divulge confidentiality for matters reasonable, though she'd like to hear stories from Lawrence someday.

For sure, Marc's rumour from his assistant Eu Lant goes like wildfire, though the relationship between him and Lawrence is as clear as day being fellow merchants, though Holo is one such particular "merchant" who has smitten him into her bidding, which grows into a one-of-a-kind relationship that he's so settled on that he never has time to answer her queries. And it's really thanks to Marc that Lawrence finally clears his head, and business can get going for a transaction of wits and timing.

As the opening bell rings for business, the merchant battle between Lawrence and Amati is on. Who will emerge victory?

I was very invested throughout the entire episode. I can’t believe something like economics is bringing this amount of interest from me. It’s also the fact that I cannot determine what is going on inside Holo’s brain. Does she really want to leave Lawerence, or is this a big brain play to make a lot of money? I can’t wait to find out. I caught this one as well. I don’t think it really matters though if Lawrence wins or loses to Amati at this point because Holo has final say on the matter and I think with everything Lawrence is doing to get her back she’s gotta know how he feels at this point. @Arkx919 Oh ok, so yours is just a prediction.

Then imagine being this much of a smug douche based on a prediction. lol

Why even put your theory/prediction in spoiler tags? Is it because you know that's exactly how it's going to play out? Or do you just not know basic forum etiquette.

I don't know how you could've read my sig and thought it was me saying Tensura is peak. If you look above the text that says "Tensura peak", you'll see that one, it wasn't written by me, and two, it says "Average MAL user's media literacy". See how based on those two additional details, and the fact that the person that's quoted is saying "Not reading allat", how it means Tensura is not peak? Reading is hard though, I understand. I'll dumb it down so that people like you can understand it a bit better. Gotta be nice to the downie community after all.

You know, with the way the narrative has been told up until now it's hard for me to side even a little bit with Holo or Amanti. The former was the one who created the situation and expected a lot from Lawrence good nature (which will probably pay off by the end but still comes off as a bit selfish) while the later just feels entitled to getting what he wants coming in with aggressive moves. Lawrence is realizing how he views Holo but this shouldn't have been the way for him to do that. I can't say he did anything particularly wrong either. I dunno, maybe I'm missing something.
