They really put a lot of responsibility onto Yukiya this season.

Got more about lore and origins this episode, especially related to Wakiya and the so called Golden Crow. Azusa might also worth to keep an eye on with her wise personality and wisdom. I'm okay with this pacing tbh. They're trying to flesh out the characters and story as much as possible. I just hope Yukiya knows what he's getting himself into.

@Stark700 , The important thing is to be a True Golden Crow having ancestral magic (that's Wakamiya's case), not just a Golden Crow (it's simply a ruler's title). But the crown prince has few followers and supporters, as of now. Yukia, with his special personality and cleverness, may be very useful to him.

In a world where woman's only role is to bear a child, I can't help but imagine that, if man can do that role too then there would be zero woman in a palace.

@phantomfandom Unfortunately, yatagarasu are akin to birds and don't reproduce vegetatively. Their women have to

I really love the worldbuilding in this anime. I never would have guessed that the "horses" were Yatagarasu that couldn't return to human form. It seems like some of the political machinations are beginning to come to a head. I also really enjoyed the relationship between Wakamiya and Yukiya and look forward to seeing more of it in the future episodes.

The worldbuilding is so intriguing, and the pacing at which they reveal things about the world is perfect so far. When the Prince was telling Yukiya all the chores that had to be done, he mentioned horses. And later we see the "horse" stable having giant crows, which confused me since I thought all the yatagarasu were able to shapeshift. We learn near the end what "horses" are, and it's rather sad. The Prince also told Yukiya not to drink water from the well, which was a bit odd, but after half a month, we see that a plant in the white pot is withering. I guess the Prince is doing an experiment? Or maybe he needs it as evidence that someone may be doing something to the well water? Not sure, maybe it's just...naturally not good water.

This is probably my favorite seasonal series atm, and I'm surprised at the quality Pierrot is putting in, especially also because it's an NHK series which usually look on the below average quality side.

So the assassin that's targeting the prince is hiding the Cherry Blossom Palace is the main reason why he hasn't met with any potential brides yet. At the same time the Blockhead Second son is buried in chores given by the prince.

Fascinating. It also feels very well-paced; I feel like I saw and learned a lot in such a short time. Things move along at a brisk pace, information is delivered at the appropriate time in appropriate amounts, and the many characters make full use of their screen time to reveal more about themselves and become more likeable.

Can't wait to see the Prince right in the thick of it in the next episode.

Very good 3rd episode. Love all interactions between Yukiya and the prince. The bit where they were spying on the women was well-written comedy, I wish more anime were like this instead of doing shitty "funny faces".

The "horses" explanation was awful, literal slavery, except even more dehumanizing, literally.

Not sure whether Asebi's reaction is plausible, like, even if you've never seen it, what's so bad about seeing a transformation? Wonder if we'll get more of an explanation here later on.

Anyway, love the seriousness of this anime and can't wait for all the conspiracy scheming!

@kurooganeko Absolutely.
If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.

I really like Yukiya's character as MC, if not because him this show would feel boring. Eps 3 is the best so far i like the scene where he is knocked down by his master haha, I enjoy this show

The noble never saw or rarely see one change their shape especially for sheltered Asebi. Wakamiya is more cunning and slave driver than I thought, he use Yukiya as ploy if things end up bad. Yatagarasu is just normal subhuman then and most of them does change shape, however it puzzling why they should not change in front of noble, are noble unable to change ? and the reveal that the horse Yatagarasu is actually human that do contract slave labor for them... it not all pretty in this world.

The elder prince faction move their plan and making imperial meeting for next episode, bet they plan to trip Wakamiya from the sucession. The crown prince also don't meet with any consort but often going into the Red district for fear of assasination and fighting with each other.

@jumbosan It may be a contract or a penalty for crimes. If a yatagarasu turns into a horse under contract, he or she has his or her third leg tied up, to prevent turning back to human for contract period. If it is punishment, the third leg is chopped off, and the offender remains in crow form until death.
The nobles don't want to transform because they don't want to look like "horses", i.e. slaves under contract or offenders.

@KisMaczka whoa didn't expect they don't even view them as human and stripe that right as human as well, its brutal..... power dynamic of royalty and normal citizen of yatagarasu ..... The thing not only to criminal but normal citizen that is in poverty is awful. thank you for explanation btw.

Yukiya's servitude of the Crown Prince Wakamiya, the Crown Prince sure is a pain to deal with so many duties, but he's testing to see whether Yukiya would be useful to him for the long run. The endless tasks back and forth from the Imperial Palace, Yukiya managed to deal with them all, and gets a kumquat for his efforts. And when Kiel asks for any intel, Wakamiya is the TRUE Golden Raven kin'u, and the others being Yatagarasu like Kiel. But the political instability within royalty walls, affiliated with the kin'u, war could come any time soon if not handled properly.

Even worse, Yukiya taking the fall for Wakamiya trying to know the innerds of the political climate, especially between the House brides, it sure is a rather unpleasant sight keeping the ladies out of strife within the Cherry Blossom Palace, as much as he is watching from a distance, and Asebi watching the Yatagarasu shape-shifting human-bird ravens for the first time and understanding their raw and slavery treatment. For now, Asebi finds her stride withiin Sumomo, and Wakamiya is summoned to the Purple Hall to discuss about his inheritance to the throne.

Shit just got real to the ascension of the throne.

Lmaoo Yukiya is as going THRU it today. First getting stuck with chores, then taking the fall(literally) for the prince. At least the prince didn’t abandon him and did send reinforcements to pick him up, but not before Yukiya took a nice lashing from security at the cherry blossom palace. I can tell he and the prince are gonna have a nice relationship.

Also, some cool worldbuilding about the social dynamics of this world. The different types of Kinu, “horses” and the political manoeuvring behind the scenes.

As interesting as the world-building is, it's kind of crazy how a solid 75% of this show is just worldbuilding via exposition dumps. It feels very flat and lazy and like it's not really making the best use out of the visual, motion-based medium animation is. Not too surprising for an adaptation of a novel series I suppose, but a better director would find more natural ways of presenting this exposition or at the very least find ways to make the prolonged exposition dumps more engaging.

Poor Yukiya, on top of making him do so much work the prince even made him take the fall. Any significance of that one plant that died?

Was wondering if the horses were actually humans too or different but yeah they were humans after all or slaves should I say, sad.

Empress's secretary Shoin is pretty. Empress and the elder prince is plotting stuff against the prince it seems. I was thinking what if the elder brother actually cares for the prince and won't be a villain but doesn't seem like it?

Asebi made a friend. Red hair consort is more caring than she seemed.

The older brother is pulling the string behind the scenes to get in the way of Wakamiya’s claim it seems.

It’s messed up to know that the “horses” are people who can no longer transform into their human form due to contracts
