if there weren't enough nightmare fuel for neets already, a hikikomori lady got pranked by some charlatan psychologist hardcore.

Well my streak of starting the episode threads has ended, but perhaps it will happen again one of these times lol. But this was a decent one, it was an interesting story but the ending was kinda confusing to me, it was clear the psychiatrist wasn’t a normal dude when he knew something about the girl that no one else should have known, but how did he get into contact with her to begin with if he was always inside a mirror? I guess without an explanation on what the extent of the mirror man’s powers are it’s hard to fully get it, but really it wasn’t so much about that but about the girl’s issues with looking at her own reflection after her stalking incident, I did like how it was connected there.

Not the greatest one imo, not as spooky as I would have liked either, hopefully the next one can bring some true spookage!

At the start I was thinking of that one scene from

Dude was like "Yea, look my way now."
I will say i feel like these first few eps have been sort of mental illness or coping focused.

Outside of Blackbean, seems like I'm going against the consensus every thread. While most seem to note this as the weak one of the season so far, I thought this was a lot stronger than the first two. I'll admit the ending is sort of weak though. Seems like the mirror man finally got his girl but his powers seems a little weird. Since he can exist and operate in the real world, not really sure the mirror stuff was necessary, like why would he need her to look at the mirror long enough if he could just go to her house? He could've just asked her out, or snatched her there. Did he bring her in his mirror world, is that why the colour got all rainbow paletted at the end? Or did he want her to see herself as beautiful too? Maybe he's a kidnapper who wants his kidnappee's to have self-confidence in there looks?

That aside though, I thought this did a pretty good job-setting up the twist. The art style worked well for this story, feels like there was some foggy effect in the backgrounds that worked well with how the woman was living her life. As well as all shots being like Wilson shots where we never see her full face until she looks in the mirror, or how they used the glasses to obscure the mirror man's eye. The mechanics of the monster here a bit wonky, but overall I thought the set-up was strong enough to make this still a decent episode.

FireRifle64 also makes a good point about how the theme of this season might be tied to coping/mental illness. This is the second episode thus far where the possibility was presented that there were no spirits at play, either being a family grieving over the death of their daughter/sister or here with her handling rejection. Of course Blackbean was specifically about the loss of a pet. Don't think the first episode fits in that neatly here but it'll be interesting to see if this a theme that carries forward.
