It really feels like Kamisama Kiss with a mix of Fruits Basket vibes, I can't deny that. Aoi totally gives off major Tomoe vibes, I can't even lie.

Himari Momochi, who lost her parents in an accident during infancy and was raised in an institution, receives a sudden inheritance on her 16th birthday from her deceased parents. The testament dictates that she is to inherit the Momochi House. Setting out to find it using a map, she arrives at the Momochi House only to discover a mysterious boy named Aoi and other residents, known as Yukari and Ise. To her surprise, Himari is told by them to leave, as Aoi is the rightful master of the Momochi House.

Himari seems likeable, but this episode makes me worry she's heading for trouble. The three guys in the house fit into the usual reverse harem roles – the quiet one, the sarcastic one, and the hot-tempered one. They threw around a bunch of terms about spirits and their classes without really explaining, which felt weird. Maybe it'll be important later on, who knows? When the characters started talking about the different creatures in the house, it left me scratching my head.

Despite the confusion, the episode had a friendly vibe and surprisingly good humor. I'll stick around to see if it picks up in the future.

Poor Himari. Lost her parents when she was young and now haunted by supernatural entities in the present. Not everything is gloom and doom as she does meet some help.

It seems the show plants a lot of responsibility onto Himari even though she does have allies. Not sure they plan to adapt build their relationships but it seems they introduced some of the key main guys. Himari herself seems somewhat likable.

It’s a shoujo alright. I mean not even a legit minute into the episode and we literally had our main heroine witness a fully naked guy, in the ever so familiar cliche manner. Also hey, who are these three guys.. epitome of ikemen, freeloading in someone else's house??????? And they had the audacity to refuse the rightful owner and say she should leave????

Wait, what? Though hey I accept they had a good reason(?), but think about this girl too lol. She’s alone without a family and without a place, so let her stay at her own house at the very least. Goes without saying, the guys had a secret, I mean it’s kinda obvious when you’re living all by yourself in a mansion sort of at the top of a mountain of all things lol.

They being the ayakashi or whatever umbrella terminology we going to use they were, it only took a minute or two for the main guy, Aoi, to reveal his true self too. He’s the omamori-sama, or the fox creature he is who's been residing within Momochi house since ages. The monster was slain conveniently, good for them and good for Himari too…

… I mean getting a KISS on the first episode is a rare feat in itself lol. Rest assured, she’s not going anywhere and will live in her house, by being the rightful owner.

Colours are kind of too bright tbh, but by the standards of this studio, they maintained a decent quality of art throughout the episode. Decent sounding OP and ED, and decent start too I guess.

Though start paying rent lol.

Female mangaka Aya Shouoto's completed 16-volume, 67-chapter Shoujo manga, we might see a full adaptation if this season goes well.
Both Kamisama Kiss and Fruits Basket vibes are strong with this one.

Yoh Kamiyama's OP is decent, and Muto's ED is kinda nice.

16-year-old Himari Momochi inheriting a house for her birthday from her late parents, though the house is occupied with a young man...naked?

The Momochi House occupied by Aoi Nanamori with Yukari and Ise, deeming that the "haunted" house is also theirs, that will not be enough to drive her away with the will from her parents, being the only thing linking her to her family. But still, Aoi deems that Himari must leave, though she stays for the night, only to be literally haunted by spirits. And trying to learn the ins and outs of the Momochi House, Yukari is basically the cook, Ise is like a tenant, and Aoi...is still the head of the house.

Himari getting scared by the ayakashi that Ise stirred up on her to chase her out of the house, the Momochi House is their only living space. Still, Himari sure doesn't look like she belongs in the house, until the demon Kumonyudo comes in to suck her lifeforce, which apart from Aoi sucking from her mouth (which looks like kissing), they reveal their true selves: the Nue that protects the Momochi House, the separation between both human and spiritual realms, with Aoi being Omamori-sama with his shikigami Yukari Mizuchi and Ise Shojo. And apparently, this is not the first time that Aoi saw Himari, as he failed to save her once before in the past.

A fake will to lure her into the Momochi House, Himari has decided to live with the guys anyway, and that's probably for the best.

A decent start all things considered.

I've read the Manga. Without spoiling can anyone tell me how this first episode stacks up to the Manga. And will 12 episodes be enough to do this justice?

Casual good first episode. It gives off a Kamisama Kiss vibe. I have to admit tho, I was kind of annoyed with Aoi when he was giving Himari the speech about how those ayakashi had nowhere else to go but the momochi house like..no shit sherlock, Himari has nowhere to go either lol why do her feelings not count? The characters all seem likeable tho. I'm sticking with it. The animation is fine, not amazing but not terrible. Not a fan of the opening song, it sounded a bit lackluster. The soundtrack of this show is great tho. Overall decent first episode, will tune in for more.

Kamisama Kiss? Even feels a bit similar to Fruits Basket. Lots of shoujo tropes with bland looking fmc and ikemen mcs and stuff. Reminds me of the old shoujo animes. Was a decent start, probably gonna stick around. OP song was pretty good.

so an anime similar to mononogatari and fruits basket, interesting

both Himari and all the other charas and ghosts have nowhere else to go, so the best thing is to stay together, yes
Aoi transformation was pretty cool, i'm interested in seeing what comes next

How is the score so low after one episode lmao? No way people found it that bad. The anti shoujo bias on this site is insane. It was a cute first episode and definitely got a lot of Mononogatari vibes from it which is a plus since that was one of my fave shows from last year. Also has some shades of Fruits Basket of course.

Definitely plays on some traditional shoujo tropes with Himari’s first view of Aoi being him naked, but I like the whole mystical inherited house set up. Her parents left that to her for a reason, why exactly i’m looking forward to finding out.

Couldn’t help but laughing at Aoi and the others reading the literal inheritance letter from Himari’s parents and still saying she needed to leave her own legal house lmao. When you see the types of things that happen in the house at night and the evil ayakashi who linger about the property you definitely understand why they wanted to keep her safe. But, if that’s what Himari wants to contend with, that’s her right

Aoi’s transformation/fight was pretty cool. I wonder if he’s half ayakashi then or something like botan from mononogatari

A kiss already! Wow even though it was a lifesaving move it still counts in my book

Lmao himari is a great businesswoman, first things first, rent due. And after Aoi blew up her phone I don’t blame her.

Fun first episode. Last year was a great year for shoujo stans and here’s to hoping 2024 is just as good if not better 🙏🏾

I can't believe a straightforward reverse harem still exist in 2024 but since I'm tired of those "I'm a villainess" reverse harem, the straightforward approach like this anime is surprisingly refreshing.

I've seen the manga around for a long time so it's nice to see what this is all about. All I knew about it was the Tomoe looking white haired guy. Nice episode, definitely the sort of show I would enjoy. I will say the main girl isn't quite as likeable as they tend to be in these sorts of shows, but maybe she'll grow on me. She was just saying "This is my house," for most of the episode, understandably.

Also really cool opening song and visuals.

I'm not going to lie and say that I didn't come because of the similar to Kamisama Kiss, because I did, but so far I enjoyed it. It's very refreshing not having to see the male lead immediately hating the female lead but caring for her, which was pretty different from Tomoe and Nanami's first meeting.

I'm looking forward to this! I don't plan on reading the manga until the show is over because I don't like watching/reading the same things, so I'm just hoping there isn't a sudden shift in the plot.

omg where to start
the Kamisama kiss vibes are so there, the monsters and backgrounds look so pretty, so like kamisama kiss
the animation it's also super nice, it's not over the top (they don't do that for shoujo 🫠) it's simple like 2010s cartoon, i really like ittttt
the character design tho😬
it's giving girl and her guard dog, sometimes they even look like hentai characters 😭😭
i wish they were "flatter"
besides that, it's cute

Reverse harem with some feeble romance/teasing.

The stupidity of the MC was a bit too much for me, and it seems like that personality and the interactions are going to be the main premise.

Gonna be a drop from me as this doesn't seem like my cup of tea.

Not sure how I feel, it did give me some mononogatari vibes and I enjoyed that but this feels like it's leaning more on the shojo style romance and that doesn't resonate for me so it makes it harder to get into and overlook what felt like weirdness.

Young girl shows up at what should be her inherited home, sees strange men that she immediately thinks are either burglars or squatters, but she doesn't go to call the police but instead just confronts them and tries to kick them out.

If you are into this for the shojo, then you can ignore that and just let it be setup for the romance but for me that felt more like the start of a horror movie. Same with extending it to her sleeping there that night.

I'll admit though that if this was reversed and it was a guy coming to a house of girls it'd be easier to ignore since I'd care less about the setup and be more interested in the romance.

Regardless, if the story develops to be interesting then I might be able to look past it. Though this might just not be for me.
