Ichiro-kun is only responsible for the original concept? Hopefully that doesn't mean I won't get my fair share of his favorite clichés this time around, like the Utena inspiration, homoerotic edgy teenagers battling toxic parents, and a plot lifted from some English-language classic. As far as I understand, Grendizer is being created under the strict control of foreign producers, so I'm not sure if it can hit bingo there either.

The original character designer passed away earlier this year. Wonder much involvement he had in this, if any. Also listed under KA.

@deg Sequel as in it takes place after the events of the movie. This basically seems like a spinoff like Akito telling stories about different characters as said in the post credit scene of Resurrection although Akito takes place in between R1 and R2 (?)

Lelouch and others will make short cameos I guess.

@Etherius_ZS After the film? Did they accept the trilogy version as new canon? But Ichiro said that the events of the remake take place in an alternative universe.

This was announced to be a thing long back ago if i'm not wrong. They took so much time just to present something which looks completely new altogether lol.

There cannot be a code geass without Lelouch. And nah, cameos won't count as a replacement.

@Softhenic03 yeah I agree. Even Death Note without Light can exist. Code Geass without Lelouch? Naaaaah. He carried the story for me, I dropped both Akito OVAs and Renya manga because it had nothing to do with Lelouch

@TheMangaManiac another stunt by bandai to sell model kits. Cannot blame them since they burnt through most of their popular series

@TheMangaManiac Pretty sure they'd play the cameo thing here too lol, but that's honestly not much worth when it is going to be a long four part movie thing.

@RobertBobert I mean, yes, it's a different universe from the TV show, this is just set in that new universe just like the movie was.

@Ionliosite2 I was just surprised by the fact that they are now developing a new version of the timeline instead of working on the old one further.

@TheMangaManiac Have you seen the original sequels of the live action Death Note, which are essentially fantasy detective stories with an L as MC? It seems that in this version the universe of the franchise is much more developed than in the manga or anime.

A resounding.... meh.
Whoever is currently running Sunrise desperately needs to be fired. They recently announced a Netflix Gundam show that's going to be insanely woke (the writer, Gavin Hignight, has a history of woke cartoon writing under his belt, and that's NOT a good sign). Mustn't forget G-Witch which was an absolute misfire of a show written for neither the yuri fan nor the mecha fan (like, guys, if you're already making a yuri mecha show, make the lesbians sexy, not moe). And now this, a sequel to a movie that was a half-assed attempt at quick nostalgiabux for people who grew up with all the Geass memes.

At this point the only things from Sunrise I definitely want to see are the remaining Hathaway movies, whenever they get made, and the SEED movie which looks like it's going to be an amusing dumpsterfire, not a sad one like G-Witch was.

was so excited when I saw this, this morning. I hope the movies will be an international release. hjkdsdskhj my god I've been waiting for madoka and this to come out for like forever and they're both coming out next year. I hated the spin off akito movies but I'm willing to give rozé a chance. I do wish that they just stopped after the second season of the series tho, can't have code geass without lelouch. if they wanna mess around with alternate timelines/universes or whatever this is then whatever I guess lol. ain't gonna lie I thought roze was a chick till I watched the trailer, had my fingers crossed for another ange for no reason lmao

@daddyjunkowo probably not soon. Gridman universe never got a wide North American screening. And gridman universe was a much better movie than scarlet bonds, second progressive, and the kaguya movie. I don't assume seed freedom and the geass movie will. If there is no world on when seed freedom will be released overseas.

@TheMechaManiac sunrise is probably creatively bankrupt at this point. Uc is practically finished after hathaway movies and crossbone probably won't sell. Seed freedom looks awfully like code geass but thr animation was good. The 2 latest love live groups were pretty mediocre.

@deg is this what the creators said themselves or are people just speculating?

Granted this isn't from the original creator duo so they may not want to be as blatant as Code Geass R1 & R2 were at allegorising then-current events.

@Fortress_Maximus According to a report from the event, they initially wanted to put a spoiler for the main character's name in the title, but later decided that they could remove it due to the political situation, since fans already knew the necessary information.

@ahmm1122 Cool it off hypester, Geass OG is literally unrepeatable. Practically a perfect storm of 4chan making it a meme and then other sites boosting it further.
You can't force memes, they have to come organically.

@AnimePedestrian As far as I understand after my discussion above, a new film continues the compilation trilogy and a new film that rewrites the series finale.

@AnimePedestrian Ichiro said earlier that the new films take place in an alternate universe, so if the issue of (new) canon is very important to you, then this is more of a soft reboot.

@AnimePedestrian Well, the original Geass was made with some of Sunrise's mistrust of the outcome, plus Ichiro and the director made some decisions semi-seriously while having fun (for example, the design of the emperor was created according to the "most ridiculous" ideas.). Perhaps they decided to do some kind of soft reboot when the franchise began to be taken too seriously to maintain continued interest.

@AnimePedestrian I don't know how true this is, so I'll call it an urban legend. There is an urban legend that, at least in the past, Sunrise considered the Gundam tag to be a curse and therefore periodically released non-UC drafts as original mecha with their own idea and branding. According to rumors, Geass was originally exactly like this, but after reworking, Ichiro and Co. changed the setting on original. Judging by how G-Witch was described before his intervention as some kind of hard-boiled military action with a female edgy pilot (come to think of it, the new CGI Gundam looks suspiciously like the draft described), Ichiro generally likes this kind of moves.
