Initially, I almost gave up on this show because of its art style, but now at episode 6, it’s surprisingly grown on me.
What are everyone else’s thoughts?

For me, this show is walking a fine line between being a hidden gem and a flop. The plot’s complexity, with its time jumps and multiple character arcs, is a bit all over the place, but it’s managed to stay intriguing. I also really enjoy the random bouts of crass humor.

How are you all feeling about the storyline’s progression and overall delivery? Do you think it will manage to weave everything together cohesively?

I dont know man!! The show is whacky that its really interesting... Yeah, the art style is not really selling this show, but it really fits it perfectly. The OP is a banger (I usually skip OPs, but I just cant make up my mind to skip it.) Definitely a hidden gem of the season for me.

I saw a short on YouTube a few days ago and thought I would watch this one. Comedy is good, the non linear storylines fit the narrative. Thanks to their big reveal in ep 4-5 I'm hooked & ep 6 is lit as well. I'm really looking forward to more. I think they are building something big with this.

The show is very intriguing, i love it.
And as for the fact about Animation style:
most of the anime, shows japan & the people, way different & comparatively cartoonish to reality. Ofcourse that's what anime is. But it's nice to see much more reality based animation & the small cranny jokes which does happen in real life in the way they portray.

I personally like the art-style. it gives the 2014or 15 animation feeling. and I really like old art-style. so it was a sell in form the beginning. started low but started hitting from 3 episode. I never expected this was going to be this good. it's kinda like Sony boy anime one of a kind.

Super odd and out-of-pocket most of the time, watching it feels weird. I do like the deadpan humor snuck in there.

After the first 3 eps I considered dropping the show, but after that it became quite interesting. Nothing exceptional, but an enjoyable watch

I’m terrible I always skip OP / ED. But that’s cause OPs have spoilers and between the two it saves like 3 minutes, which helps me binge efficiently lmao.

I think if this show manages to either stop / “finish” on a decent ending it might well increase in score.
It’s never gonna be a heavy hitter but I think it’s well above its current score (6.6) assuming it doesn’t take a nosedive.

I’m sticking with it. I’m not really following the plot just enjoying it scene-by-scene. It makes me laugh atleast once an episode with the goofy interactions. Episode 6 was my favorite so far - less time jumps, new tech introduced, and still funny.

for me, it's a mixed bag. on one hand, the overarching plot is decent with a cast of wacky characters who don't seem like ninjas. I also like ninjas doing Ninja things and this scratches a certain itch I wanted from Naruto.

but the way the story is being told is terrible. it's jumping all over the place and making an increasingly complex more confusing than it needs to be. we could have gotten the school fight in its entirety as the prologue then flash back for a few episodes for the foreigner stuff. the anime looks generic, too. nothing about the art style pops out to me, either. the show isn't flashy so it doesn't need high budget fights with impact frames and the whole nine yards, but it's blander than it needs to be.

I'm eager to see where it goes and I hope it gets better by the end.

This show is weird as fuck and I honestly can't tell if it's my favorite thing this season or is trash. Or both.

I'm having a blast with it. The art style is odd, I didn't like it at first but it has grown on me. Also the characters are wacky as hell, I love it. I honestly don't think it will grow much on the general public by the end which is a shame, but I think it's definitely worth a watch.

Underrated with people giving it a low score because they don't get the humor and the episodes don't tell the story in a fully linear way so it's too hard for them to follow.

Which is usually not a problem, the problem is that it has ninjas. Ninja shows will attract the narutos, the narutos aren't known for their acumen.

Definitely underrated but also not any kind of masterpiece. Not a 6 scorer for sure that I can tell you.

cant say for sure, but either this will make the last episodes intriguing, or they are gonna make for a banger s2 or movie

its not bad, just nothing really happened, we are explained everything everytime so much that the plot havent progressed much
and its wierd af

At first, the show was interesting but pretty weird. It's still weird, but I found myself caring less and less as we saw the ninjas going to school. Then, that one girl was picking her nose and ate a booger, and I was done.

Parody of everything Ninja. It's funny. And it can be pretty gritty/dirty. I kinda like that about the Show.
Episodes are hit or miss, tho. And I kinda feel like nothing has really happened. Pacing seems off.

I also feel like the Anime was let down by the studio, big time.

Not a very good show, I had so high expectations for it but the animation is bad and artstyle isn't the best but very unique, the opening is so good and the bgm isn't bad, it has some funny moments but not full of it have the same humor as mine so sometimes I cringe, the plot is intersting but so confusing, last two eps (5,6) were good so imma still give it a chance!

It's one of my favorite shows of the season, second to Frieren. And I loved the art style right from the beginning

i liked the manga, but this adaptation is kinda meh, not really because of the animation but mostly because of how they're jumping around skipping chapters. the show itself is fun but the studio should've done better.

I can't fully enjoy this show because this story is too ridiculous to my liking. Ninja wars happening at schools out of all places? Adult ninja tasked with infiltrating high school? Give me a break. At least there is cute masked ninja girl so I will keep watching for now.

Under Ninja is as fascinating as it is hilarious. Beneath all the absurdity sold to us as professional spec-ops doing stupid things, the combat is surprisingly gritty and deadly. It's hard to imagine something more left field, unless you've been watching Migi and Dali.

Needless to say, I love this show.

Yeah initially I thought I'd give it the 3-episode rule and then drop it, but since the anime is pretty bonkers I won't drop it.

I find funny how basically everyone in the thread says the art style is weird, anything remotely different is weird if you grew up with 2010's anime and only watch mainstream stuff.
Not every anime needs to look like KyoAni, i feel like i need to celebrate every time i see something that doesn't follow the cute/blobby/bland look of isekai or SoL anime.

It's pretty unique you could say, but i love the dumb crass humor and how bizzare everything is lol I'm really enjoying it, although i wouldn't say it's a very good show or anything like that. Also it might be the funniest show of the season for me, deadpan humor is right up my alley

After finishing it I can tell this show has some advanced sci-fi tech going on. It's alright but yea... If you are bored give it a watch I guess.

@SteelingMax

I've been watching anime since the mid 80s and have watched from very old school classics like Treasure Island, Future Boy Conan, Galaxy Express to any big hits from the 90s 2000s 2010s and modern anime from 2020s and can easily atest that the artstyle in this show makes a turd look good in comparisson.

Just because something tries to be "different" doesn't make it immediately better.

It's also hilarious that you claim "just because something doesn't follow the cute/blobby/bland" while having a FLCL avatar.

@Kimurah So, you're saying i can't like anime with a "generic" design, bc i like different artstyles? makes sense

If you only watch mainstream stuff, doesn't matter that you've been watching for decades, it's almost as if you were watching the same thing over and over again, if you want to be exposed to more varied styles, manga is the better choice.
