So manga readers, I was wondering if this is setting up to be a full adaption based on pacing so far? I was wondering if I should expect a sequel or if the studio is gonna wrap it up in 24 eps

I highly doubt they’ll be able to adapt the full story in one season, Helck’s flashback starts in volume 4 and they’re already more than halfway through the anime, so I think the only way they could adapt the whole thing is with a season 2

It will take another season to fully adapt the manga

The adaptation is very faithful and it's taking its sweet time to properly cover everything from the manga, even a couple of bonus comedic stories.

With the pacing they are going with, we will stop almost immediately after the final arc starts, which makes for a really good cliffhanger for the final portion of the story (because the overarching of earlier elements nearly reaches completion for the most part with the little mysteries and character developments the story up to that point sets up).

@Danpmss smells a lot like a movie, or at least OVA, just like how most other big series end their adaptation

The very extended finale could even benefit from being cut down for movie format. But I think that if they're ever gonna continue, it will be another season on the cheap.

The first twelve episodes of the anime adapted the first three and a half volumes of the manga.
The flashback sequence about Helck's past was one and half volumes long in the manga but six episodes long in the anime (and that's assuming it will end next week).
In previous threads about this same topic I said that I was confident the anime could wrap everything up in twenty four episodes but now I changed my mind: there is absolutely no way in hell this season can cover the whole original story.
Seven volumes in six episodes? Impossible.

How is the adaptation?I heard manga's latter half is where story gets interesting..Does that mean season 1 is not that good because of story?Or is it good?R*ting is not looking good enough compared to manga's r*ting

The adaptation has poor production quality and very flat directing. Aside from skipping some extra chapters that expand on characters and relationships, it has been a faithful adaptation, but every part of it just feels like a flatter, nerfed version of the manga. Honestly, unless you're illiterate, there isn't really any reason to not read the manga instead. The anime isn't bad per-se, but it pretty much adds nothing aside from a couple decently voiced characters, and is otherwise a worse version of the same thing.
The story is already into the part where people probably mean when they say it "gets good." As for the low score, the people who scored it at this point are mostly people who score things from the first episode, or people who dropped it once they saw the stock VFX or panning/zooming stillshots in place of action, and those people of course probably didn't score it highly. I'm sure people who make it to the end of the season will score it higher, so it might get a little boost in score when that happens, but some discrepancy from the score of the manga is honestly justified.

@AnIFoRLiFe A great story with cheap production values beats any seasonal crap with unneeded sakuga. Since the latter is the vast majority of anime, there's no reason to not watch a diamond in the rough.

Getting back to topic, people expect the announcement of a second season (or should it be called third?) by the final episode. If that doesn't happen, maybe manga sales after the finale might nudge the decision.

There's also the matter of the broadcaster.
Nippon TV already has several TV anime series programmed for their 2024 late night anime block so it's hard to say when a hypothetical second season of Helck would even start airing.

@Avvenirista based on your calculation, the leftover wouldn't be enough for another 12 episodes second season. Hence, I still think that they will do the OVA/Movie strat to finish up the whole thing.

@Aragane
Helck doesn't really strike me as the type of property that would receive a movie or OVAs (what would they even bundled with?).

@Aragane We've just hit the halfway point and it's episode 18. So we need 18 more, and considering there's still 6 in this cours, that leaves us with a comfortable 12 episodes more requirement.

I think it's a positive, that all episodes were already done from the start. So things might have been planned ahead, and Helck S2 was left open a spot sometimes in 2024 or 2025.

Next's week episode should give us the definitive answer to this thread's question.
If episode 20 doesn't dramatically change the current pacing of the anime then I'd say we can safely assume that this single season of Helck won't adapt the entire storyline of the comic.

@Avvenirista We have been going 3 chapters per episode up to this point.

Even if they rush 10 chapters per episode at this point it wouldn't be enough to cover everything, and we are talking about some of the longest and wordiest chapters to come (at times chapters reach 50 pages starting from this next arc).

I don't want to sound repetitive but now it's crystal clear that this second cour won't finish the story.
Not even some original anime story bullshit pulled out from nowhere could propel the Helck anime to its end so now I can watch the series even more relaxedly while hoping that Nippon TV and its other partners will greenlight (if they haven't done so already) a second season/third cour set to air sometime next year (Summer 2024?).

Based on how the last episode ended, there will be season 2.
My best guess is a year from now.

It will most likely air in the second half of 2024 or sometime during 2025.

At this point there is enough material left that if they continue the ~3 chapter per episode adaptation, there will likely be a 12 or 13 episode season 2.
Honestly I think the manga needed another 30 or 40 chapters to flesh things out and really shine. You can kinda grasp this by the way the epilogue was done. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing.

Absolutely disagree, especially about the necessity of adding another three other volumes of story.
Helck's ending couldn't be better, the grand catharsis of the finale was something out of this world.

That's bogus, the official website doesn't say anything about a possible season two.
