Episode 1 officially aired in Japan.

Surprised that we finally got Duramente, wonder what other characters we'll get that seemed like a far shot before.

Going to open the gateway to a lot more perhaps.

It's back and this season looks just as exciting! Even the announce made the episode feel exciting.

So far, there's that feeling of self motivation and we also got the cast training. But seriously, I really like the overall mood and excitment of the first episode. Lots of cheering and energy and we already have their first race. It's off to a great start.

Uma Musume is back after 2.5 years for Season 3, and other than Princess Connect, is Cygames's most profitable anime,

After the insanity that was Season 2 with Tokai Teio, Tracen Academy's new hopeful in the form of Kitasan Black comes alive in this brand new season, with her same-school friend of Satono Diamond into the school. And most certainly, Kitasan's enthusiasm for following up on her idol of Teio's success, she is already wielded into Team Spica with Special Week, Silence Suzuka and the regular gang.

Duramente and Satono Diamond's sister Satono Crown are Kitasan's rivals this time around as they prepare for the Japanese Derby after the former won the Satsukishou and left everyone in the dust, and Kitasan hopes to replicate Teio's footsteps to success, though that depends on the racecourse, which it's long-stretched course will be the true test for everyone.

As Team Spica cheers Kitasan on, as Duramente garners her reputation and Crown is hoping to break the Satono family's non-winning streak, the Tokyo Yushun a.k.a Japanese Derby is the start for all hopefuls in the new generation of horse girls. Kitasan tries her best, and Duramente replicates her strategy here to win the Derby once again, once again leaving everyone back in the pack and winning her Second Crown.

Duramente's the new generation's favourite, but Kitasan fell back to her usual stances. The race is long, grow up girl.

Studio Kai still doing a good work since Season 2 was such a success. Hoping for yet another great season.

The little ones have grown up but they still need some work if they want to win.
It was nice to see them trying tho but it's was pretty much expected that Kitasan wouldn't win, the question is when will she win.
The team she is in has experienced enough so she should get some nice advice from her senpai.

I initially started this because I already knew about the game and heard that the anime was good but I never expected to like it so much that Uma Musume is one of my favorite franchises now. This instantly became my most anticipated show of this season.
Btw I recommend watching the 1st Anniversary Special Animation, it's 7 minutes long, like a little prequel to this season.

I see people are excited about Duramente. I don't know anything about horse racing (everything I know comes from Uma Musume) so I'm out of the loop. It seems like this is the first time she appears in the franchise, so this is cool.
Kita and Dia have plushies of each other in their beds lol
For some reason it's so nostalgic to see everyone even though I just caught up yesterday.
I wonder what's up with the Satono family's jinx stuff.
Gotta say, Dia's design is really beautiful.
1:50, 21:47 Lmao. I guess this will become the running gag of this season like how it was with the hair stylist in season 2. I love it already.
We already went through 2 races out of the Japanese Triple Crown races in the first episode. I wonder what will happen now? I guess the focus will be switched to Dia at some point and then Kikuka Sho will be the last race this season.

Thursdays are gonna be so good with this and the Eminence in Shadow.

Here we go again, another season, another horse girl. I still miss the focus on Spe-chan but it is what it is. S2 was great, so I have faith in this one too. As long as the engrish is on point nothing can go wrong. And truly, we're starting off strong with an Duramente PERFORMING

We also got a banger ED again.

Okay, we started really fast - well, kinda expected since they probably want to show all kitasan races, so fast start is a need.
Great 1st episode, as usual a lot of IRL references - people doubting Kitasan ability to run longer races since her most famous relative is Sakura Bakushin O (we saw her trying to recruit kita ofc :) ) and she was a sprinter.
Also this duramente weird walkout is 100% based on real life behaviour, I'm too lazy to google.

@Embient the name Satono refers to the IRL owner of these horses who is the boss of SEGA(Yes that's the SEGA who has Sonic) and has participated horseracing for decades but never won a G1 before(in the end Dia achieve that which may be covered a few episodes later), that's the curse of Satono
PS: in the umamusume timeline SEGA becomes the Satono group, and Satono is a concept similar to Meijiro

@Vizvezdenec actually Bakushin's IRL bloodline is quite preferring long distance, the reason she became a sprinter is that she has some unsolvable problem in breathing preventing her to run longer

@system5 yeah I've never checked this stuff, it's indeed true.
But Equinox is kinda built different, already so many wins and he is just 4 years old, he may be (if he continues to perform this well) the greatest colt horse ever born. At least Kita bloodline is pretty good :)
Also world ranking is kinda... Whatever. Since they are heavily based on international performances which Kita had 0 of. But till current day 3200 record of Kitasan holds strong with actually a pretty big gap, so I do believe that she would've been really good at international starts, just that this never was tried.

Crunch might be late to the first episode, but I sure ain’t lol, it’s damn nice being back in this series. The original show was one I watched very close to when it came out in 2018, and I really wasn’t that into it but I did like it, Season 2 however I absolutely loved (Teio as MC helped lol) and it had me really hyped for this 3rd season, and this was definitely a nice first episode. First off, it is kinda confusing how it looks like no one else aged when the little horse girls from Season 2 are older now, maybe horse girl ages work differently lol, but it’s not a big deal because it means I get more Teio and that’s a win for me.

And Kitasan Black seems like she’ll be a nice MC so far, it looks like she has the errand girl thing going on with the city folk which is cool, and she already has a lot on her plate with the Japan Derby and her “rival” Duramente, who seems like an absolute monster by how she won at the end lol, not sure if it’s drugs or not but I kinda doubt this series would make that a plot point lol, I could be wrong tho, but the fact of the matter is Kitasan Black has a lot of training to do if she wants to be that good.

It’s also nice to see there’s gonna be IRL related plot once again, that’s something I think is so cool about this series and I’m glad to see they’re continuing it, and I was happy to see they brought the nerd guys back too, they were one of my favorite parts of Season 2, it’s just a shame they won’t have the little horse girls to react to their discussions anymore lol. And I’m not sure if that was a one off song or not at the end but I definitely look forward to hearing the OP and ED, both the previous seasons had very good ones so I hope they can hold a candle, and here’s to hoping this is a great season!

@NoxPrivate you understand that they are following IRL horses story, right?
There is nothing more to tell about Teio since 2nd season more or less covered all her racing career.
Now we are covering career of one of the greatest racehorses ever - Kitasan Black, and it was a lengthy one to say the least.

That being said Duramente was really one helluva horse. I just watched him win a race. He was like 8 horse back. Technically, out of the running and then BAM! winner's circle. Duramente is #14 (I had to mute the annoucner): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG1ENuA-1Qw&t=164s

It's still the same fast-paced and energetic show it has always been- it's just right off the bat, we're starting off with a pretty sad episode. Our main lead this time around, Kitasan Black, has lost 2 major races in a row in the same episode. Yes, it is fast-paced as usual. Will it be a re-skin of the previous season with the same story beats, getting injured and recovering and all that? Probably. But even if it's just a little bit different, with it's own slightly different spin to it, it'll be worth it. Because I just gotta say it: somehow this series has succeeded in getting tears out of my eyes on more than one occasion.

Kitasan and Duramente have imo the coolest character designs in the show yet, both rocking black, red, and gold. Speaking of Duramente, as far as opposition goes, she is looking as deadly as all the other opponents that our main characters have faced in the past. Maybe even more so. I would like her to remain as THE horse girl to beat for the ENTIRE season. In the previous 2 seasons there were of course a lot of horse girls getting shuffled around and what not and there never really was ONE that was the one TO BEAT if you get what I mean. Who knows, maybe this season will be a bit different, maybe even more depressing (yeah season 2 got kind of sad at times) with maybe Kitasan losing EVERY race from here on out.... and then at the very end winning against Duramente. Probably won't be the case since she'll get disqualified for any big race but you know, just a thought.

And speaking of big races, the announcers themselves said that this Japan derby was THE race to prove who was the FASTEST horse girl in all of Japan- and yeah our new main character Kitasan is right there smack dab in the middle of it all. Which again is nice, it's fast-paced, but maybe we could've introduce her a bit more smoothly into these big races? Because in the previous season, she was like a little kid admiring Tokai Teio (this is one thing I really appreciate, that even though we get a different main character in each season, the next main character has already been introduced and given substantial screen time in the previous), and all of a sudden we're placed here where she is up among the best in the country. Maybe some backstory of how she got to this point will come later though, so I won't say anything just yet.

Now I thought it was a bit odd to see Kitasan there in Spica with like, the same team we've known thus far. Like she was a little kid in the previous season, now she's grown up to be in the same school, and everyone who used to be in Spica is still there. Heck we even have Suzuka here, who I thought was permanently placed abroad. So yeah shouldn't they all be like, young but grown adults? Or maybe they are, they just don't really age, and they stay in this horse girl racing school for life, I suppose? I've got questions, but I'll discard them all. This is based on a mobile game(?) after all, it's not like the lore was completely thought out. But really, I'm not complaining. I mean, I DO want to see all the characters we've come to know together. So yeah, minor nitpick, but really, I'm glad it's how it is.

Yup I have gotten pretty invested in this anime about racing horse girls based on a game....

I'm very happy to see more Uma Musume anime! =D

I already liked Kitasan Black back in season 2 and I still have the same opinion of her in this opening epison of season 3. Seeing Kitasan Black doing her morning training and also helping out the locals in the neighbourhood makes me respect her a lot.

Having said that, we see her losing out in two major races already. She got a nice 3rd place in the opening of the episode, but she really tanked hard in the Japanese Derby at the end. In both of those races, Duramente performed like a machine, easily winning both races from an incredible burst of speed towards the finishing line. We've seen plenty of strong rivals in previous seasons, but Duramente looks to be the toughest one to date. I do hope that Kitasan Black can get a victory soon. Same goes for both Satono Diamond and Satono Crown, who're both determined to end a family curse by winning.

As with before, I expect plenty of hype moments, but also some heavy drama here and there and I look forward to seeing how this season goes. =)

as a scholar in biology, nothing in this episode irked me more than depicting Durante stretch walking in that manner before the race. i get they're trying to depict or preserve the "horseness" of the girls but when you force slap on something without any real thought to it, it looks nonsensical and dumb. They have human legs that fold forwards as opposed to the rearward poking knees of horse hind legs, extended lunges simply would be a more proper walking stretch and in fact that's what many track athletes in real life do.

Liked that Kita/Crown's motivations are shown, and that there were two races and training and some slice of life in one episode, yet it didn't feel rushed to me somehow; liked the foreshadowing comment about longer races being an obstacle that Kita must overcome.

I think that more than motivation (friendship powerup, etc), the right method (fewer mistakes) and also the right conditions (physical condition, weather, for example) improve winning chances, and that the season main characters had their own goals to chase after (
), and those were properly set up.

Somehow it doesn't feel right having the big Derby race happen in the first episode of the new season, but whatever. What also doesn't feel right, though is obviously to be expected with the difference in format, is just how much worse this looks in every facet compared to Road to the Top from earlier in the year. I also hope the idolising of Tokai Teio dials down a bit as the season progresses, as it was kinda obnoxious in this episode in a way similar to the obnoxiousness of Love Live Sunshine's worship of Muse for most of the first cour: as it is, Kitasan doesn't yet feel like her own character and moreso like she's riding the coattails of Teio.

Really, all I hope from here is that we don't have injuries as the only plot point like in season 2, so in that sense at least this episode is a decent starting point.

@shadowbringer616 just seems odd fans would like something misrepresented as opposed to accurately or at least realistically portrayed. but then again anyone who's ever ran in heels know that its a disaster waiting to happen as well as it is more efficient to run poised in proper form than leaning forward.

@Ashhk and you are really wrong.
Unless authors would like to twist how story goes it will be vastly different from previous seasons. If you want to spoil yourself a big google duramente horse wiki page, if you don't just wait till it goes really not how you ever expected it to go, all I can say.
Just wanna clarify smth. There are "3 crowns" in japanese horse racing. They all are competitions exclusively for horses that are 3 years old. Getting triple crown is an incredible achievement and basically is a proof that you are "the talent of the generation".
Previous protagonists kinda failed to get there, be it spe who lost to seyun sky twice, but always was really close, or Tokai Teio who got fracture after winning 2 crowns...
But Kita starts really badly. She was 3rd in the 1st crown race and 14th in 2nd, while duramente was victorious in both.
And if for Seyun Sky and Spe it was close, for Teio she got trauma, for Kita it definitely was "Duramente is the best horse of the generation". Kitasan wasn't considered as the greatest talent even among horses of her age, not even talking about horses in general.
And yet she became "everyone favourite". This is an incredible story but kinda bitter at times and you probably will see why, but unless studio will diverge from real life things you will get your jaw dropped by what actually will happen, albeit it's a very sad story.
All I can say is that at start of s2 Maruzensky and Simboly Rudolf were discussing Teio future and they said smth like "she has talent, she has will, now all she has to get is luck as a 3rd necessary ingregient of being one of the best". And this season will probably be the best showcase of why luck is still extremely important.

@Vizvezdenec Thanks for the clarification, I meant it's the same goal for the 3rd generation and she's similar personality wise, but now I had no idea that it turned this way IRL, so hopefully it will be this way in the anime as well indeed.

F Kita san black lost and not even in top 10. On the bright side she can only go higher from here. Good to see Suzuka back.

as a scholar in biology, nothing in this episode irked me more than depicting Durante stretch walking in that manner before the race. i get they're trying to depict or preserve the "horseness" of the girls but when you force slap on something without any real thought to it, it looks nonsensical and dumb. They have human legs that fold forwards as opposed to the rearward poking knees of horse hind legs, extended lunges simply would be a more proper walking stretch and in fact that's what many track athletes in real life do.
@chenfeng Well it's just a nice little reference from irl Duramente, don't mind too much about it lol

@chenfeng dude you are watching an anime about horsegirls what are you talking about?? As a scholar in biology too, if I was so serious about it, I would already say that horsegirls is a stupid thing...
