Mushoku Tensei started in 2012 as a web novel on some otaku site, it was kinda popular, it had a lot of readers because it provided what the people wanted, a main guy restarting his life in a different world and doing stuff, meeting girls, having fun, being all powerful with his unlimited mana. It also got a manga and a LN version which was 90% the same as the WN, just some minor changes here and there to make it look smoother to read, nothing too fancy.

Now everything started when the anime was announced. I will tell you guys, Mushoku was kinda niche, it has a certain audience and few people knew about the manga, it's not Dragon Ball level of popularity when even non watchers know about the memes and some plot points, basically few non-readers knew about what the hell was happening in Mushoku and to be honest no one cared.
I will pinpoint some events that made Mushoku the big hit that is today and who made it so and how and what was the purpose.

1. After the trailer dropped for s1, people liked it, it was actually cool looking, very good sakuga and character designs, o one said anything negative about it, well maybe only isekai haters.

2. Episode 1 drops and people starts arguing about the main character and start using plot points from the WB which was sorta still unknown, they explain thoroughly how main guy is this and that and they start using big words like sex offender and pedophile and stuff.
This situation creates paths
- ecchi and spice fans like me are curious about it and want to watch it
- closet spice fans want to watch it
- forever angry people want to watch it to shit on it on mal and other social media
- hence this creates popularity for this mediocre anime, because there is no ecchi, no spice, no disgusting stuff, only your regular generic isekai with some cool sakuga and decent character design

3. Just think about it, how is it possible that haters that didn't even know the WN existed, know about what happens in later WN and LN volumes, why would they even care? The answer is simple, the fans wanted to put wood on the fire to make this popular, give minor spoilers to people as to make curious lots of audiences. No way it was the haters who started the flame war, in 2021 the later LN volumes weren't even translated yet we had on mal info threads about rudy's power level or about the girls.
Everything was a setup to make this as popular as can go and when you watch it, n oway it's as problematic as peopel said it, so the result is that Mushoku is safe to watch even though MAL is saying "ahhh, this is ecchi".
Mushoku got the ecchi tag after some people were angry, when it aired, there were threads like "I started this thinking it was just an isekai but this has nudity and sex, how come mal is so lax in regards to tagging?". But when you watch the anime, you see no nudity, only some small sex jokes.

4. This was all prep for s2 because this was damn boring, the author didn't know hat to write so he just copied your usual school arc when nothing happens. Anyways, if you go now to Mushoku s2 forums and ask questions, you will be labeled as a hater because poor anime got so much hate even though it didn't deserve it (see point 3) so anyone criticizing it must be a troll who thinks rudy is a sex offender when in fact there is no such case like I explained above, Mushoku is tame, anyone can watch it and will never think this is a pedophile anime.

As a conclusion, any point regarding the plot, action, animation, whatever in Mushoku won't be considered fair by the fans because you're a hater who thinks Mushoku is pedophile so the talk ends before it starts. And if you dare to say Mushoku is pedophile, well you're wrong because it's not, any sane person will get that and the fans will be happy to set you straight, they will defend this because it's easy to defend, it's safe and gives them power and enhances the popularity of the anime.
This way, the fans won the argument of explaining the anime for the fans, they only need to defend the pedophile accusations which is damn easy, example:
me: how come rudy has infinite mana?
mr D: you're dumb, they explain that in episode 1, you're a hater!!!
mr B-san: rudy doesn't have unlimited mana, stop hating on Mushoku!!!
me: if that dragon guy's goal was to kill rudy, why didn't he killed him?
mr D: idiot!!! Mushoku is not like your shit anime attack on titan, cope!!!
mr B-san: so what if rudy has sex with eris, hater!!!

I rest my case.
Mushoku pedophile propaganda was an operation staged by its fans in order to protect the anime from people asking questions about the story, plot, characters and keep you at level 0 information about it. If you ask question, you're a hater and if you think it's pedophile you're delusional. They want us to think Mushoku is something it isn't keeping us as as brainless watchers and consumers for popularity, whle they enjoy their generic isekai story.

You forgot the part that such 'main guy' was forced out of his house by his siblings for paying 'tribute' to loli hentai during the time of his parents' funeral, and killed by Truvk-kun in the most pathetic way possible. Such things are important parts of THE PLOT. How could you convince people with just half of a truth?

Mushoku Tensei is pretty much a power fantasy for cunny fans. That is why Rudeus was a ub neet in his previous life to connect with the reader. The series likely got mainstream since s1 had excellent animation.

Honestly, tourists still bringing up supposed pedo controversy during second season and grasping at straws just to whine about anything just shows that anime going mainstream was the worst thing that could happen.
