Step right up and have a look... It's time for Yami Shibai.

Decent and pretty creepy start to the 11th season.

So this season is about sequels about past episodes, maybe some prequel.
Well, that's interesting.

Also, it's there any other doll in the episode apart from Taro that belong to a past episode? A think the Hina Dolls are the ones from season 3.

I was waiting for the puppet to say "Bang"
I kinda dig the ED.

Frick off Taro-chan. Why was that woman crying about Junya? Did he die and they just decided to go cry about him at the doll burning ceremony? I'll watch the original Taro-chan episode.

Cat Report 1: She was on one window sill, came down for a bit, then went to the other window sill.

I like how the entire audience has masks now, and the ED slaps.

While I haven’t watched past Season 2 yet, I decided to check out this newest season since I know these are new stories every episode, and would you look at that, the first episode is a callback to an episode from Season 2 lol, good ol Taro-chan. Poor Junya tho, I guess that’s why you don’t mess with dolls that are about to be burned lol.

And we got another nice ED too, and I noticed in the intro that all the kids are wearing masks now, wtf happened after all these seasons lol, guess I gotta catch up and find out.

I knew that the doll appeared in another episode, but i couldn't find it. Thanks @Drumbottle for the source.
The episode is creepier if you know well Taro-chan's first appearance.
Love the ED song ^^

it's crazy how Yamishibai keeps me coming back every time.
this was a nice start and cool concept of sequels just like horror movies always get sequels.

now let's see if it stays good like a S1,2,8,10 or become sweary buttfuck ass like S3,4,5,7......

Was wondering the same thing. Did they just decide to combine his funeral with it or something, lol.

Well, let's see if any are related to an ep I can remember.

If you touch cursed puppets then I guess you'll die...? Junya didn't deserve that. I would have wanted to try out a ventriloquist puppet if I saw one about to get burned too.

The series will never die, but it sort of seems like the series is acknowledging that. Last season had the Storyteller tell stories to an empty park, but now it's overloaded with kids wearing masks, and the ED had the Storyteller as a puppet dancing and telling stories (hence the clips of the episode being shown). If this whole season are going to be callbacks to previous episodes, it feels even more like the series is acknowledging the never-ending nature, as if the true horror is the fanbase causing the perpetuity of the show.

That said, I hope these episodes aren't all sequels to previous entries. Conceptually returning to older episodes is cool, but when you focus an entire season on it you dilute the impact, and makes it feel rather lazy. I didn't really remember the Taro-chan episode, since I watched Season 2 back in December of 2014, so almost a decade ago, I vaguely remembered it once I looked it up.

After watching the episode, I did re-watch the original, only to find so much was lifted from it, like the talisman and even the bike story. These work as callback, and it makes sense, there's no reason to expect the supernatural thing to function differently. But it sort of highlights the problem with dedicating a whole season to this, there's not a lot of time in Yami Shibai episodes, and I don't think there's enough meaningfully different from the original episode. The only real twist here being that Taro killed Junya I guess, whereas in the original he doesn't really do anything. Which an aside note, really surprised me. I was pretty convinced that it took until Season 5 for an ending with no horrible fate, while 5 still remains the first season to have an episode with a more heartwarming/wholesome ending, I suppose 2 actually started that trend.

Anyway, I don't really think the episode was any good. For starters, I do think this episode requires the first episode a bit. It's clear that the soul inhabiting Taro-chan died in a bicycling accident, but without the original it's just kind of a random thing to bring up. Even with the context of the original though, it's not really much more than a callback, and there's a novelty in an anthology series referencing past events, but when it feels like it's really only exists for fanservice, it becomes a bit of an issue. Besides, in the original episode, there was the irony of this coming from a Traffic Safety performance, this episode just has the reference to fall back on. Which for an individual episode is fine I guess, it's just a worrying sign for what's to come, and in this instance, doesn't particularly do much for me.

If nothing else, doesn't look like there will be a third Taro-chan episode since he was burned at the end, but then again, I guess I was confident about last season being Yami Shibai's last, so I can't be confident.
