This looks to be a solid real robot anime with chunky classic Armored Core-like mechs, hopefully it gets enough episodes at least 2 split cours of 20-26 episodes.

Did the return of Gundam to the screens again give a bust for mecha? I even wonder if there will also be a female protagonist here, although the style obviously looks different.

Don't really want to give Obari too much expectations,if this was indeed an Brave series,it looking good already, non CGI mecha and much more grounded design like Armored Core and Front Mission design, now if only the had competent people writing the storyboard, would be great if they can atleast replicate some of the Patlabor OVA suspense, tension and political play, with animation direction like Area 88 or to some extent Yukikaze

Obari is on a roll lately. Build Stuff, Kyoukai Senki 2 and now this. While Obari is an expectional action director and animator his original works tend to be more on the trashy side of things and really heavy on the fanservice. Hopefully he gets a good writer to assist him to create something more meaningful.

The name of this anime is so dumb and so Obari, I can't help but love it.

I wouldn't be suprised if due to the huge sucess of G-Witch, Lycoris and Bocchi we'll get more shows with an dorky all-female cast, that are meant to be somewhat relateable.

I don't think the number of all-female shows has anything to do with it, not to mention that talking about the "success" of G-Witch, people forget that this is the first full Gundam anime in over 7 years. Not to mention "dorky", finding such shows relatable is mostly a reaction from western viewers who seem to dismiss the very idea that writers can do something because they find it cute or charismatic. In general, in order not to flood, there were similar shows before and will be after these shows. I'm wondering if the return of Gundam has influenced the interest in mecha as a genre.

To be honest, I don't understand why so many people still non-ironically think that anime characters are made cutely stupid so that people find them relatable, and not just have sympathy for cute and likable characters. Well, leaving aside why zoomers generally find such characters relatable.

True that. We kinda went full circle if you think about it. Before Lycoris Recoil, there was Gunslinger Girls, Mai-Hime and Railgun. Bocchi is just K-ON 2.0 and G-Witch is so generic, I don't even know where to start. With anime, trends come and go, though it's always one show that kickstarts it. Especially if a show is such a sensation. Mecha anime are in a weird space right now. We've had a little bit of a  resurggence over the last few years between Kyoukai Senki, Sakugan, Getter Robo, Megaton Musashi, Gundam and 86. From these shows probably only G-Witch, 86 and Musashi stuck around. Then there were also the children shows such as Shinkanlion or Zoids, which were pretty big for their demographic, but that's probably not so relevant for us.

When you like something that much, you kinda want to make it look something more meaningful, more complex and deeper than it actually is. Just look at most Shounen anime fanbsaes, or let's be real every other anime fanbase. It even applies to cartoons such as Rick and Morty or Steven Universe. Nothing bad about that, but at the end of the day it's not so much different from just saying "they cute".

??? That kind of shows have been made nonstop for over a decade now, those shows had nothing to do with it.

@MaceChan  I understand where you are driving. Even 3-4 years ago I was joking here about how many people were looking for deep meaning even in ecchi and CGDCT, as if they were unable to write that they just like such things. But other than that, I don't mind if anime like this revives old classic genres. It just confuses me how younger fans see this as something revolutionary and not a return to old trends.

When I read Cygames I expected to see shiny waifus on the promo image. This seems rather interesting.
