Edit:
Seems really great for a ONA.
We get to see a DAD in the anime for once.
Also get to see other small umas race.

Animations for this is pretty good, as expected coming from Cygames' own studio, though the 3D parts still is jarring and takes me out of the moment, but overall very good episode.

This was so great. The animation was incredible. The OP slaps so hard. Sadly it's only 4 episodes long. I wanted more. Can't wait for the next episode.

The whole episode felt like any of the umamusume would have an injury at any moment.

Seeing the younger umamu training part, made me think, if people coined the term "umamusume races moms".

P.S: I want that statue that appeared at the beginning, but what would be called? Statue of Carroty, and in japanese would be Ninjin no Megami?

There was one awkward CGI moment at around 21:11 during the race where they look like they were just sliding over the grass...looks like this production lapse slipped through.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

First thing of UmaMusume I am seeing. I was not dissapointed, it was pretty solid. Character motivations were established nicely during the first part and all the buildup for the big race and the end paid off with the wonderful animation.

Here is a list IRL references comments for EN viewers. This list is wirtten for the people that this episode is all what they know about Umamusume & IRL horseracing, or in other word no prerequisites. The following times are the times in the original video.
4:06: Top Road's weakness on small curve is a quite serious problem, especially on Nakayama racecourse where Satsuki Sho is hold, and it is worse when Tokyo racecourse was under maintainence during Top Road's career, and races originally hold in Tokyo were usually transferred to Nakayama……
15:06: Opera choose to talk with Oguri is a reflection of real story: Both has won the Mainichi Hai, and more important, Oguri helps Opera to participate Satsuki Sho——Oguri begins his career as a local NAR horse, and when he transferred to the central JRA(in JP there is two horseracing orgs: JRA for the major races and racecourses and NAR for lower level races and racecourses at small places) he missed the registeration of classic Triple Crown, but after Oguri becomes one of the the best racehorse in his era and most beloved racehorse ever in JP(see Umamusume Cinderella Grey manga for more details) JRA realized that it is a fault that he missed the Triple Crown and then introduced extra registeration channel for racehorces who register quite near to the start of the race(need to pay some extra money), and the first winner who participate the race though this channel is T.M. Opera O. The reason why Opera need to register so late is that he can't run for a long time before his classic year because of injury(15:30 also implies this) and he fulfilled prerequisites for registering Satsuki Sho so late that he must use this channel
PS: Anime S3 protagonist Kitasan Black also benefits from this channel
19:23: It is almost impossible that Doto is here: IRL Doto run for a race starts 55min earlier than Satsuki Sho on Chukyo racescourse at western JP, and she must travel in so little time from Chukyo to Nakayama racecourse(you can try to calculate the travel time between these two places with google map)……according to JP tweets the only way to accomplish that is asking JSDAF for a supersonic fighter jet to travel, and also helicopters between racecorses and airports

Fantastic episode itself. Truly feels like a passion project. Considering it could have been a movie based on its length easily. Her dad introducing Narita felt to me like a breakthrough moment, at least in term of western "fandom" and antis.

THIS IS SO PERFECT, I CANNOT BELIEVE IT, UMA MUSUME IS ALWAYS SO GOOD!!!! GAME, MANGA, ANIME, IT IS A PEAK FRANCHISE!

Top Road is really cute, and this is full of cameos (I saw my girl Smart Falcon eating in the background <3), and I main Curren Chan in the game so I love to see her here uwu

I swear CygamesPictures is so underrated when people talk about the best animation studios, it is absolutely top tier. It's kinda sad and unfair they decided to use them for this 4 ovas and not for the 3rd season of the main anime, since Studio Kai did a really mid job with S2... If someday they decide to animate Cinderella Gray and it isn't made by CygamesPictures I'll off myself.

i really enjoyed this franchise early on when they kept it basic and simple. no need to get too into too much detail just leave things unsaid and let the viewer/player infer the rest. now with this season its like they're opening a whole can of worms that don't really fit well into the story or have any consistency with the world building to anyone who has even the slightest general knowledge of biology like genetics, anatomy, or any of the tenets that require basic sciences like the design and production of shoes for example. i think they should go back and focus on the original premise of these series and focusing solely on the main characters and not the world they live in because the premise is the point in which the excuse for the product exists, not the explanation of methodology.
