Over the years the isekai genre has gotten wider and more saturated. But I don’t think their have been as many big hitters as their used to be(MT aside), I don’t think anything has really reached the popularity level that ngnl, Tensura, konosuba, rezero or overlord reached. In fact it’s rare for an isekai to ever even reach an 8 on MAL. But I personally think that at the very least this show can get to Overlord popularity. So do you guys think this will be the next big isekai?

Edit: People…the question wasn’t “Will it be the best isekai?” Hell nah I know it’s not gonna be. I’m asking if you think it’s the next big popular isekai that a lot of people will come to recognize as one of the main shows in the genre 😂

Well I really enjoy it but I wouldn’t say it’s going to be a huge isekai. ReZero did something amazing with the whole return by death concept and the execution. This is still good yes but it doesn’t have that instant wow factor to lure everyone in. That’s what makes the big shows as big as they are

Well, it’s Definitely a breath of fresh air from the garbage that’s been shat at us for years. This anime should be awful but for some reason it’s just not. My guess from it already getting a second season means that it’s doing pretty well.

No idea, isekai has been getting weird:
https://j-novel.club/series/reincarnated-as-an-apple

Recently, we have a Reincarnated As A High Ranking Nazi Official in the WN sites.

The next big isekai I can think of are Modern Villainess and Dahlia.
I predict that Modern Villainess will do well in Asia (including Southeast Asia), but flops outside Asia because knowledge in Asian economies are required.
Dahlia is the romance type isekai. Very Korean-drama.

Eminence In Shadow is one of the biggest isekai titles in Japan too. It reached 2 million sales before Volume 5. It took Seirei Gensouki 19 Volumes to reach 2 million sales.

EDIT: Eminence In Shadow LN sales is 3.5 million before Volume 5.

I mean it's already pretty popular from what I can tell, I think if it gets more seasons it could probably reach similar popularity to shows like tensura slime or youjo senki, but I don't personally think it's particularly the best isekai or anything.

For me, when I think of isekai, I think of 6 titles, Shield Hero, Slime, ReZero, Mushoku Tensei, The Eminence in Shadow and Overlord. So imo, give it a little more time and yeah it'll be up there

You can call the show whatever you want, but the current generation demands shows like these and as an isekai fanboy I don't think this show is that trash at all it deserves this popularity and rating. But still, the best isekai for me is mushoku tense (read the light novel).

I think one of the main reasons it’s not as awful as other fantasy/isekai is it’s pretty well written, like every character has emotions and values beyond what’s obvious from when they’re first introduced (they’re not flat and boring).

It’s the best of the 2nd tier. That’s all I’ll say. It can’t reach the heights that Rezero Mushoku and others can, but it washes every seasonal isekai by a mile.

I mean Konosuba Rezero MT Overlord No game No life Tensura Shield Hero all more popular than it. So i doubt it will ever be the best when it’s fighting those titans. Plus MT and Rezero LN are like top 5 LN in japan.

nah this show is a good isekai romp, but ultimately it's still a fairly niche anime in a genre that has shows like re:zero and Mushoku Tensei sitting at the top. it's by far better than the usual slop we see every season, but it sits somewhere between Sao and re:zero in terms of quality

Who cares as long as we enjoy the show!! It is an standard Isekai we fans looking from trash Isekai till now releasing every season, It may or may not become a big popular Isekai. If it's get more support from fandom then it deserves that, we can't dinay that it was good!!!

This Show doesn't even come close to what eg. Mushoku Tensei or Re Zero offer. It's a funny show and alright for the most part, but it's the "Masterpiece" people seem to make it out to be.
How anyone can rate this more than a 7 is beyond my understanding.

I don't think so!The plot is good, intriguing but if you compare with previous anime such as mushoko tensei, shield hero, re:zero,
'the eminence in shadow ' does n't stand a chance!!
The anime has huge blunder that is easy to point out!Such as,The MC is overpowered and acquired a harem so quickly! Side characters getting low screencast, making the MC a bit boring! He is not struggling at all like sheid hero,re:zero, musoko tensei!

In the first two episode it was clear that the hero will defeat the villain without a sweat!

So,In terms of plot, it can rival many previous isekai anime but In terms of MC or protagonist, side characters, romance, execution, villiain, "The Eminence in shadow " does not stand a chance against previous isekai Animations!

At last,I think the eminence in shadow is good but not the best!

For me, eminence in shadow comes as the second best isekai series, right after Problem children are coming from another world and in another world with my smartphone.

In my view, I hate Re:Zero because I don't like mc to cry in almost every ep. And as for overload, I hate that also because the mc doesn't look that cool. Tensura also I hate it because I don't like to see demons' horns, they are annoying while watching.

1. Slime
2. Re zero
3. Mushoku Tensei
4. SAO
5. Eminence in Shadow

(Ik everyone hates Sword art online but I personally think it’s pretty good depending on the arc) so me putting eminence in shadow under it isn’t saying it’s bad or average it’s quite good

That is even crazy high as compared to most isekai that only reach 2 million after more than 10 volumes.

Anyway, for me. This would be in my top 10 or so...
Aside from those lists I quoted above, Tsukimichi and Death March to the Parallel World would be greater than Eminence, for me.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

SAO is well known as a trash anime that’s just a fact it’s like the mainstream “bad anime” it gets tons of hate, not when it first aired but for the past 5 years it’s easily one of the most hated on anime I’m not sure how you’ve somehow not seen the hate it gets but just take my word for it like I said I think some arcs of SAO are really good, then others not so much

I see, it has quite a hater base but I don't hate it and I wouldn't even call it a trashy series.
Those are my honest thoughts and no one can change it.
Anyway, that's that. I won't call it perfect and of course, it probably has some flaws here and there but I won't say it is hateful but more of an inspiring series for me.

I mean its depends on the one who watch the anime. But I agree that the manga would be more funnier, since there are a lot of the scenes in the anime that could be made funnier but they failed to make it funny.

i guess i gotta be the anime boomer here and say i don't understand whats so hype about 20 episodes about an untouchable/invinsible group

like... nothing bad ever happens to any of them, they never take any Ls, they for the most part just kill/beat a bunch of dumbasses and no matter what always have a one up on their opponents

and the show didn't really do anything "unsafe" or "risky", its pretty much just about how broken can we make the good guys

none of the girls are really highlighted/simp material as it was mostly about how OP is the MC

idk, for me, yea the show is "good", but all thats just kinda boring af

BUUUTT...

i guess i just gotta keep in mind that i've kinda seen everything including most isekai and just let people who have seen far less enjoy the show to the max lol

I love Isekais or any action anime with those kind of theme. No nonsense drama, struggle or losses that will just eventually favor the MC in the end. Not that it's boring but its just pointless imo. And don't start about Plot Armor BS.

Isekais that fit those themes for me are:

Overlord
Slime
Shadow Eminence
Kuma Bear
300 Year old immortal witch

Theres more but these are memorable for me at least.

Not the best but definitely in top 10 within the isekai genre (my opinion) and definitely isn't below top 20 range for anyone who watches a lot of isekai I'd hope anyways.
For anyone who hates it and has watched over 50 isekai anime (somehow) hopefully it's not number 50 on your list.

its a turn off for me if the characters... not "don't", but "can't" lose, especially when they themselves know they can't

I enjoyed it, but I think it was a bit too confusing/convoluted in parts.
I don't understand why Shadow is seen as bad. Hasn't he mainly protected people?
And the whole secret cult thing that Cid started, they've mainly done their own thing, but that has been unclear? What is their purpose?
The whole fight between Beatrix/Rose and Shadow seemed entirely pointless. What were they even fighting about?

Seriously, I want to like this show, but it is super hard to follow some of the plot threads.
