You could probably watch it without context, worst case scenario is you don't understand the references to the recent seasons

As long as you are aware of how last season ended, I think you should be able to understand it

No, it’s something you should work towards, this is one shortcut you don’t want to take, seeing ash become close to his best in sinnoh, skipping unova🗑️ watching him at his best in kalos, watch alola if you really want to but I’d just watch the first few episodes then skip to the league (a upgrade from unova if you ask me) and finally galar, a slight downgrade from XY ash but ash back to his full potential, trust me these final episodes in the upcoming finale will have a genuine impact vs just skipping ahead. You can skip however do so at your own discretion just don’t blame anyone of these final episodes aren’t worth the hype for you, newtons laws are in effect, you do you.

i would recommend watching all seasons, but you can skip best wishes completely, pretty pointless season

if you want you can also watch the start and end of both sun & moon and pokemon 2019 and be completely fine, the middle part of both those seasons are very repetitive but the start and end are worth watching

but every other season is a must watch start to end

(you can also skip all the pokemon movies)

How is black and white pointless? I'd argue that most of Johto is more pointless.

You probably won't understand 2/3 of what's happening because this is the grand finale to the entire series up to this point, so references to everything before are obviously going to happen.

Skipping Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola and Galar to watch this part of Pokemon is like part skipping in JoJo's Bizarre Adventures: It's a sin.

Why would you want to watch this if you quit during Hoenn? Either finish the rest of the series or don't bother.

This is basically the epilogue of Ash's long journey and thus the conclusion to the overarching storyline of Pokemon which centered around him, so it will feel kind of strange if you have not watched the seasons leading up to the finale

This is such a weird take. Part skipping is only viable in JoJo (not that I endorse it) because the different parts are largely disconnected from one another, and any returning characters are usually given an introduction that could feasibly serve as their first introduction if needed. Ash Ketchum is a nostalgic figure for so many people, many of whom haven't watched since Hoenn/Sinnoh/Unova and don't have the spare time to watch the 500 episodes in-between. Sending off a character from their childhood shouldn't necessitate spending a fortnight's worth of time catching up.

Exactly!!! This is an once in a lifetime event and there's no way dude will be able to watch 500 episodes in time to catch up 💀
