its fake. 1. if i had to guess the average witch of mercury episode has like 6k frames so why would the last episode have like 3x more because there are also original frames from the staff in the studio abd the freelancers. 2. outsourcing this only like 1 week before the last episode is wayy too late. 13k frames would take a lot longer than even 2 weeks. and krep in mind the compositing in this show is stellar, also having to do that after will take atleast another 4 weeks. there is no way this is real

According to the original tweet (now deleted), the 13K frames are for episode 12. Tbh, I think it could be a mistake, I could see it as 1.3K but 13K is too much.

An average anime episode runs on something from between 12-24 frames a second, meaning you can have up to 34k+ frames an episode. Also, worth noting that the outsourced frames are probably just the key frames being outsources, much more work would have to go into making a frame, one animator /= one frames.

And it is also a 2d mecha series, you generally need specialist animators for mecha so this isn't at all surprising I guess

I'm not going to deny potential behind the scenes issues, we have had some episode hiatuses so far, but the level of animation is constantly pretty high so I don't mind waiting an extra week every once in a while

Outsourcing is not uncommon in anime production. About half of Spirited Away's in-betweens were outsourced to Korea.

Imagine if they didn't. The same complaining people will be complaining about overworking the staff instead.

No scratch that, people who complain about overworking probably don't even know what outsourcing means and is already complaining somewhere else.

Outsourcing isn’t inherently bad or good, it’s just another part of the industry. To know if outsourcing will harm the anime you’d have to know what scenes are being outsourced and who they’re being outsourced to. The only way we’ll find that out is to wait for the next episode.

I’m personally still pretty hopeful. Gundam makes a lot of money so assuming they’re willing to spend a bit they’ll be able to find people who can do a great job.

NHK special on the production of the film. There's a scene of Miyazaki discussing the completion of in-betweens with a producer. It's included on the 2003 DVD release. Not sure if it's on the blu-ray release, but likely.

There are usually no more than 10 drawn frames in 24 frames of a second. The way the anime studio distributes the drawn frames in the second is what gives the scenes a sense of weight.

I can even tell some of the bad frames in the 2d fight scenes. Sunrise is stacked with money from the gunpla and love live sales, yet their shows have bad production quality and have to rely on outsourcing to cut costs
