REGULAR SHOW TROUNCES ANY ANIME. PEAK FICTION

We protect other species because humans themselves are lonely creatures. We protect the environment because humans themselves don’t want to go extinct. What drives us is simply self-gratification. But I think that’s fine, and that it’s really all there is to it. There’s no point in despising humans by human standards. That’s right. So in the end, it’s hypocritical for us to love Earth without loving ourselves.

I noticed the nature vs nurture debate going on, which was one of my biggest take seats. Also, the common “trope” (not sure if this applies as a trope or not), I see a lot is that sometimes people are just fucking assholes. People like Uragami don’t really have a reason for existing, however they do exist. Same with the parasites. Humans don’t necessarily have the “right” to be the top species. That kind of jus how it is. There are reasons for why it happened, however it isn’t because of the right for it to happen.

I see there are good animes in this thread 😭 I still need to watch Kara no kyoukai.

I would recommend you Phantom: requiem for the phantom even though it’s a bit on the edgier side even compared to kaiji.
Deadman wonderland and btoom! Kind of have the same survival aspect but a bit childish.

The previous Recs such as psycho pass are really good though.

Look up the anime director Tomino Yoshiyuki. He always leave philosophical messages in his writing.

Most of his works can be found on Netflix due to the sheer size of the fanbases.

And try not to cry when your favourite characters get killed off~

Sonny Boy - Crunchyroll, Monster - Netflix from memory.
These ones I haven’t watched in years but from memory they have philosophical elements, on Crunchyroll - Ergo Proxy and Acca
Ones specifically around the philosophy of robots - Chobits and Vivy Flurite eyes, both on Crunchyroll
And lots of anime out there have philosophical elements to them but it wouldn’t be considered their main genre

Hello, man.
(btw I'm not here to suggest some anime).
Man, I see - you're asking everyone where can you find those anime. At time, my situation was kinda like you couse I don't have any premium memberships 🥴

So I had to use web for downloading anime or watching them online. I prefer downloading them first then watch it offline. (No ads will disturb while watching offline).

https://theindex.moe/
Here, on this web you’ll find all the specifically preferred website out there to watch or download anime for free.

I usually use Animixplay, Animepahe, 9animes etc. Animekisa was good, but it has shut down for funding reasons. BUT no worries, We have animixplay 😁
And also kayoanime & animekaizoku for dual audio encoding...

I think you actually meant 'Psychological' instead of 'Philosophical'. And, if that's the case, then just watch Re:zero and Steins;Gate. you are gonna love both of the them. Both of the shows are absolute masterpieces.

Guilty Crown actually had a good potential, and I enjoyed it for about the first 7 eps. But after that the show went completely downhill, and just got completely ruined as it progressed. After the end the only good thing about the show was that atleast the OP-1 'My dearest' is a masterpiece. Can't say anything good about the show other than the music tbh.

ii agree with most of your statements. but i'm sorry for you not enjoying guilty crown. personally i dropped it twice then got back to it and actually enjoyed the show. i don't like music themed animes nor sci-fi and yet- the psychological part was well made.

- Psycho Pass has some of the most interesting debates on moral philosophy and free will that I’ve seen in any series. I think it’s the closest you’re gonna get to a Parasyte-esque mix of a tightly paced thriller with some background (and sometimes very explicit) philosophical ideas.

These aren’t so much like Parasyte, but they’d be my personal picks:
- Wolf’s Rain and Mushi-shi are both very atmospheric and consistently contemplative.
- Sonny Boy is a masterpiece in existentialism.
- If you haven’t already, I’d recommend watching the original Fullmetal Alchemist. The frequent philosophical musings are much more potent than they are in the reboot.

As for movies, anything by Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Kerberos Saga) and Kon (Millennium Actress, Paprika) would work.

Here’s a few thought provoking animes. I tried not to retread what others have already said.

Aoi Bungaku Series
Erased
Ergo Proxy
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (political philosophy mainly)
Paranoia Agent
Blast of Tempest
Beyond the Heavens
Gantz
Inuyashiki: Last Hero

Code Geass is not particularly profound, but the Character of the Emperor seems to be loosely based on Nietzsche’s ideas.
I’ve noticed that anime in general tends to approach philosophical themes without actually touching the philosophical as such. You get that rush of “Woah deep…” without coming to anything really concrete. The exceptions to this for me, thus far, have been Berserk, Psycho-Pass and LOGH.
But that is not to discount the “thought provoking” animes that I listed. As Heidegger once said - “The most thought provoking thing about our thought provoking age, is that we are still not thinking”.

I wish you well in your investigations of thought!
