I want to know if I'm the only one who thinks this wasn't that good

i love dawn of the deep soul, it seemed like we were getting ready to meet bondrewd since the beggining and we were rewarded after all this trip with the movie

with the second season it was completely different, random people appeared in a society that was never mentioned before just to disappear after a while, it felt like a fever dream

The only thing interesting that happened was the past between Faputa and Reg

I think your criticisms are valid and reasonable and yeah I understand why someone wouldn't love this arc.

For me it's in very close running with Dawn of the Deep Soul. For me it feels like we’re entering the real abyss and the fact we know barely anything is exciting. and a village of hollows is a great way to introduce the possibilities of deeper abyss.

I like season 2 but Dawn of the Deep Soul & the first season are imo definitly better.

I don't feel like writing an entire essay so in a nutshell:

For me Dawn of the Deep Soul was by far the best part of Made in Abyss and might have set a 'too high' standard for s2 to live up to.

What I didn't like about this arc is that it was too focused on those newly introduced characters that I didn't find that interesting. The main cast felt really left out, especially Nanachi.

Thank you! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to think that

totally agree with what your saying
the amount of world building on the first season vs this season is so different.
I still did enjoy this season but season one was better than this one.

this season of Made in Abyss feels like Naruto/Bleach fillers, irrelevant and unimportant characters keeps getting backstories and not to mention there is this battle scene between an unimportant female beast against random monsters with weeb music in the background.

Truly a disappointment, if they want to stretch a story at least show us other areas in 6th layer other than that boring village, that would make things more interesting.

1st. I was happy to get an s2.
2nd. At one point, I got worried this season wouldn't live up to my expectations. It did.
3rd. I got two things on top of everything else, which I considered brilliant. One, the backstory of Faputa & two, a new language.

Mhm, this season was very forgettable compared to the previous installment. Well, I pretty much didn't pay much attention most of the time due to how uninteresting the whole season was.

Well, I do agree with the fact that just a new cast and setting was sprang up in the new season. It had some ties to the movie as I’m pretty sure some of the characters made references to Bondred (however you spell his name) coming down to their village. Subtle references

I can’t agree at all, but I don’t think you pov is unreasonable. To me, this season surpassed both Season 1 and the movie for me, although there were times where I felt it didn’t. I actually came out this season liking Riko and Nanachi more.

Basically the Ganja were a great conduit to explain some attributes of the 6th Layer and the past of the Abyss. I loved Vueko and Faputa. It sucks it ended where it did and we have to wait so long for new material, but at the same time the author said things should move faster.

The season kind of started off slow, but it picked up when they finally started explaining the creation of the village. I wanted more, but I’m still satisfied in a way.

You are 100% not the only one. I felt like there was so much adventure in s1 and the movie but all of that momentum stopped when they spent all this time in a single location with uninteresting characters (save for faputa)

I didn't even like Dawn of Deep Soul but yeah, this one sucked for me as well. Preferred the very first season and its freshness a lot more, both the movie and the second season were really underwhelming for me in different ways. The whole new cast for this season were so dull and uninteresting to watch, didn't even care at all for the Faputa interactions and character as a whole, only thing with the new characters I was kind of interested in was the flashback very early on.

The worldbuilding in season 2 was as good as season 1. Here they have stablished a hole society living inside the abyss. Its lore, culture, religion, commerce, etc. This is peak worldbuilding. Sure season 1 covered a lot of different evironments, but season 2 gone deep inside irumyuui.

As for the season overall. I really like The ganja group. At first it was weird but then ive started to enjoy them. Its natural that some People have already reached the 6th layer. So having the opportunity to know what happened to them is Nice.

hard disagree, I liked this even more than s1 and the movie.

the arc was more stand alone than the others, but I don't see why that's a bad thing.

What made me love made in abyss never was the journey of the 2 main characters anyways, it was the abyss itself.

the new characters were great and faputa's character arc was imo a lot more interesting and intense than reg or riko's ever came close to being.

My problem with the movie was how much of a plot device prushka was and how we never got to know how bondrewd became how he is. minor complaints, but ones that were more than fixed in this season. I loved the fact that we spent an entire season on the village, and found it to be a story, just as, if not more compelling the the main plot line.

and that's beside the point that the season still gave us enough to not be filler.

history on reg, nanachi fully coming to peace with herself, some information on the past of the abyss and a new party member.

You described it exactly the same way as I did with my friends! It totally feels like a "fever dream" that you can't get out of...

Unnecessary characters, Main characters left out, tons of RANDOM stuff happening without any reason at all
Music in S1 was a masterpiece and in S2 was not even good.

I would put this season among the top 3 worst anime I have watched.

I felt it since i've read the manga long before the anime release.

And the anime did an AMAZING job fixing the total MESS this arc was in the manga.

- First the action scenes in the anime made sense. In the manga art, it is always "WTF IS HAPPENING?"

- In the anime they added scenes to explain stuff better, like what, who, why's about the Ganja expedition. Also about Faputa and her live in 6th layer so far.

Still, this arc was all pointless, with the author trying to give something poetic about value etc, but we just received a mess.

Poor Vueko, btw.

I think the narative of the golden city was REALLY fucking good.

And to me thats all that matters. I have always been invested in abyss for pretty much every reason but the main plot of finding Riko's mom.

I want to see the abyss, its creatures, rules, mysteries, horrors, tragedies, and kevin's 12/10 music.

and I got all of that and more in their peak form.

Frankly, the main cast to me is just our way of experiencing the abyss. So them being on the sidelines had 0 affect on me.

This was my favourite season.

Felt the same way.

Don't get me wrong, the season was captivating, the scenery outside of the flesh village was interesting. But everything inside of Iru was forgettable.

As one of the currently featured reviewers wrote, this season was one big filler about "value", which ironically had none itself.

Late but from my memory I didn't like how cruel the arc was, the ending didn't feel justified. It wasn't satisfying for the entire village to end up as food.
Sometimes it takes a real man to be best girl. Gilgamesh is also chad.
