| Reiner - a really good foil for Eren, just wish they were given more time together other than their conversation in Liberio. Zeke - also a good foil for Eren who plays into the nature/nurture theme. Magath/Shadis - nice examples of otherwise good men who work for exploitative systems and governments. |

| Bertholdt easy. The thing I had always loved about this show was how cynical and harsh it was about the conflicts. And no character got that point across like Bertholdt. I mean if that's what you were looking for in this show; a silver lining of optimism or something, good for you. But the subtlety of Bertholdt's character, a person who hated himself and what he was doing with every fibre of his being, yet knew there was no other choice that worked out for him and his family back in Marley, is still unmatched. |
