I hope Amane can get his life on track after that talk. It's good to see him on the tracks with a determination to succeed but seems that he still sees practically everyone as a rival.

Episode had a gloomy feeling to it but Amane is definitely a character to watch for.

Amane Grace is the same whiny person he is, but to let him out of the stables is depending on his teacher.

A letter from his dad in Suffolk, telling him the same rhetoric since the day he transferred into the Horse Racing school, but nothing has come out of fruition due to his stuck-up personality. Amane has to step up and follow the tried-and-true efforts of Japanese horse derby racing, and be the jockey that stands for himself, some advice from an once prolific jockey turned Instructor Yutaka Asahi.

I still like Shun as the happy-go-lucky character whom knows what's best, and he's easily the strongest character IMO. To send Kisuke on its final race in a rainy season, all the more it must deliver...that one single bolt of lightning caused it to stop in its tracks, and a calf injury that betrayed its owner of any hopes of seeing Kisuke well again. Shun might look well on the outside, but his horseman tactic is clearly hiding the wrath that his horse-listening skill is all but gone for good.

This new arc just proves that it takes a lotta drama and whack to just get to the final goal. It ain't hard to understand, but the storyboarding was haphazard.

The ability to talk to a horse is not invincible after all, because a horse can also lie too. It might pretend not to injure if they love the owner too much and don't want to cause a worry to the owner, horse is smart.

In episode 2 discussion I said Shun Kazanami has Synesthesia, and this episode almost confirm it. Need more detail in the next episode to confirm my assumption.

Great episode! Amane's father's English accent caught me off guard xD.
Honestly, that girl crying over Kisuke needs to shut up and stop being a pathetic spoilt brat...

Looking forward to the next episode!

If you're wondering why race horses are euthanized when they break a leg, this article explains it.

That aside, holy shit, I wasn't expecting them to actually kill off Kisuke! I mean, the death flags were there, especially when they talk about the coming race being his last and all but still, that was quite shocking.

This episode caused me to drop the series. I had been unhappy for a while about the lack of real horseriding representation, the focus being more on drama than horses and the last straw for me was Kisuke's death... NOW suddenly they want realism within the horseracing industry... when it's dramatic and dark... cos that shit sells, doesn't it?

Finally another episode focusing on Amane. This lets us see where he reached since the time he was introduced. His dad's English sounded good, but also weird. Like, he spoke too slow as if teaching an English class. (But, I am okay with that, I think, since the anime is aimed at people whose English comprehension might not be as fast.)

I wish we got to see the conversation Amane had with his instructor, but I guess they have not designed and cast the instructor.

Seeing Shun's arc here, I finally understand why all those new characters appeared with many goals of their own. They were all there to lead him to this episode. One who makes him angry, one whom he'll disappoint, those who trust him with more than he can handle.

The horse having a problem and Shun not seeing it was bad enough. But, the sense of foreboding was heightened when the sky was dark and cloudy during the race, and Shun actually attended it instead of "seeing" it from his radio.

I knew Shun was about to go through something bad and lose his calm, but it happened way later than I thought. That was a good decision. It would be weird to see him change suddenly.

Shun seems to no longer "hear" the horses. It's like his world has changed and lost its beauty. I feel bad. It's made worse by the fact that he acted like he always does. The character who was known for communicating ended up shutting himself off. I wonder what he'll do next.

My problems: the little girl. I get that she was there to be disappointed by Shun and make him feel like shit, but I don't think she was necessary. We already have enough plot points to make him feel that way. Shun misread things and the horse he'd cared for died. We didn't need the girl to point things out. If they'd never created her character, they could have had more time to introduce the actually important ones better.

Why did they leave Shun and the girl outside after the horse was put-down? (I am guessing the horse was put-down. A problem with his leg couldn't have been enough to kill him.) The dad should have been with the girl as a parent, and Shun with the horse whom he cared so much for. It felt like Shun and the girl were only left alone for that unnecessary drama.

There were flags but I was still surprised nonetheless by that thunderbolt. Came out of nowhere.

Yes. They put it down so it won't feel any further pain.

I'm somewhat relieved that they didn't put the entire blame on Shun. After all, he did hear Kisuke correctly. However, he only heard Kisuke's voice and wasn't really paying attention to the body language.

Also, is there a point with the spoiled brat? I get that she's upset over Kisuke, but she seems more sad about not getting her way than losing Kisuke. Not to mention how selfish she is. She's completely disregarding how Shun is feeling, and how Kisuke felt for that matter.
I'll save my final thoughts about her for later since it's possible that she was so overwhelmed about this situation that she was just lashing out. She might "come back" after clearing her head, and apologize to Shun for going overboard. For now, I'm just gonna say "I'm not impressed".

Lastly, I'm glad to see Amane in focus again. I feel like they were making a huge deal of him in the beginning and then kinda put his story on ice until now (In other words; I felt like they've been treating him more like a secondary/support character rather than as a main character). So I'm glad that they're going back to build more on his story. I would've been disappointed if his story was "finished".

Kisuke, rest in peace. Gone but never forgotten Shun must feel responsible for Kisuke's death, and he is now losing his ability to communicate with the horses.

Working out his problems with rules to his advantage is such an amane thing to do.

Rip Kisuke, had a feeling something was going to happen to his leg. Shun took a hard hit from it, since he thinks it was his fault about whether Kisuke actually wanted to race. Maybe he lost his ability to understand the horses at the end shown by those glowing things slowly disappearing.
Asahi is a good instructor. I'm glad he realized that he didn't really enjoy being a jockey and found a place in teaching new jockeys instead.

Well i know something shit hits Shun, as soon as he manage to pull the success just from one match, that was the previous match. The writer just smack, 'nope, you are not an op protag anymore. Now feel my wraith and receive the mental breakdown time. Heck yeah!'

Though, i can't blame all of them. Maybe a bit to the girl, because those highschool girl really took all shit too personal, when the horse just get too excited for the match to the point that the horse was not even telling Shun the real condition throughout 'the sound'. So yeah, shit hits Shun faster than the purple thunder xd. Not to mention Amane problem also being solved faster than i expected. But that's good for you though. After all, he's not that much hold the definition of main character xd.

Alright, three more eps. Let's go!

I feel so bad for Kisuke...
If only that guy didn't go “Oh you don't have to do an X-ray” like that.

Well, it's good that Shun couldn't get it right this time. I'm tired of them making it look like Shun has some psychic powers.

Damn, I wasn't feeling some of the editing choices with Shun's story and Kisuke's death because it felt very abrupt without much build-up of emotion. But it was stylistic in the way that that is how outside people see your emotions if you hide them away. Another person is never going to know what you're feeling unless you tell them. And in this context of literally beig the care-taker of a horse, they're truly dealing with the death of what they viewed as apet.

But then it was really refreshing seeing Shun break down like that. I admired how the director put this scene together. The ranch owner was
also so well done, because this is whatit's like to own a farm. This man probably grew up raising horses to sell or leases to racetrack clubs, his family most likely did the same when he was a kid, and very honestly, every single person who has loved a horses goes through this emotion sometimes ❤ very sweet scene. I even liked the reaction shot of the wife, with her hands covering her face in emotion as Shun just breaks down, telling everyone how much he cared for Kisuke, and coming to terms with the fact that being sad about the horses is part of the job sometimes 😭🥺

Great first half with Amane and Asahi but I don't know if I liked the second half after such dramatic turn of events. Guess it will all depend on how they handle Shun's character development next episode.
