Great kickoff episode. I really liked the focus on Julian and how his behavior reflects many of Yang's teachings. I'm sure that besides his goal of being useful to Yang, he's under a lot of pressure as his adopted son.

The animation is really really good, very smooth maneuvers and clean shots . I'm glad that these waiting times between the seasons are paying off.

Loved this episode. I liked the focus on Julian here and the space battles are as cool as ever.

The new OP and ED are also amazing, though I miss Sawano's tracks.

It's off to a great start with a Julian-focused episode. I liked both the OP and ED songs but not the visuals.

Getting back into the series went smothly this time. There was enough exposition and being a Julian centered episode helped too. I hardly remember the OVA counterpart for this one, which is probably for the better since it allows me to be unbiased, but this remake shines with an exciting tone. I take it that it's largely due to the modern score.

The theme songs are also nice again. All in all a great start.

Yeah, I think they've been listed as movies since the very start, but they're just 25-minute episodes.

After a couple years absence we're back with more of some top tier space opera drama. The chaotic second season of this remake left both the Alliance and the Empire in weakened positions and looking to take advantage of their enemies lessened stature. Hence the attack on Iserlohn Fortress by the Empire after the Alliance finally took it all that time ago when Yang and Schönkopf took it. This episode back takes is more introspective while this big battle is still going on around. Close in with Julian and his first experience in such a campaign. Going from his training camp days to where he is now and seeing so many other soldiers die. All these seasoned veterans falling in battle while Julian and other young soldiers stay alive. Its tough to witness a carnage as this as Julian gets a front row seat, even killing some enemy ships himself. Thankfully the reinforcement plan by Admiral Merkatz which Yang agreed with worked and sent the Empire running back in retreat. Surely not the last battle Julian and Yang will have to navigate soon.

Great start!
I really liked the fact that they showed a little backstory of Julian's training, cause that wasn't on the original series. I believe they took out some scenes from Fezzan and the Empire to invest on that and I think it was a good idea. I actually got a little emotional at the end.

Beautiful new songs too!

Really excited for next ep. cause it's about my bois!!

Released in Japan as a movie trilogy, broadcasted/streamed as individual episodes on TV/CR. Like how S2 was episodes 13-24, but released as a movie trilogy as well.

Don't know about you guys, but I got chills just looking at the screens of the pilots who survived and died.

Animation is awesome.

OP and ED songs are good, but the visuals not so much.

Great start to the new season, though.

I'll never get used to LOGH having such meh music. It's just devoid of that awe inspiring atmosphere.

But not a bad first episode I guess. They're doing some interesting modifications to the story and fleshing out Julian's training a lot more in an interesting way.

cant remember if that part explaining why iserlohn was a chokepoint showed up in any way in the ova, i know in the novel yang thinks to himself about that and wonders when warp travel gets to a point where u can just pass the distance entirely. that's prolly where julian got the idea from in this ep

It's actually more than 3. The 3 is for the number of movies and apparently each movie will be split into 3 or 4 episodes, so I think we'll get about 9-12 episodes this season. At first, they advertised the season as a 25 episode season, not sure what happened to that.

Ok just double checked because I don't want to mislead you, but yes, season is listed as a 24 episode season. The first 3 episodes have a theatrical release in Japan and the remaining episodes will air on TV.

I miss binary star, the new OP is generic.
Animation is good, only the first season had problems with that anyway.

The over 2 year wait killed the hype for me though. Even if this "season" actually airs without more delays at this pace it will take the rest of the decade to finisn, so you might as well just watch the original show.

That's what really sucks about this adaptation. I'm personally conflicted, on one hand I really like that they're not rushing it and are taking their time with it, but on the other hand it's going to take forever to adapt the whole thing, possibly the entire decade like you said. It also doesn't help considering my rusty memory. I feel like every time they announce a sequel I would have to rewatch the show from the start to keep up.

usually when we talk about rushing things we mean the pacing of the episodes, so you can certainly have good pacing without these long waits in between cours. But yeah the production quality in season 1 really wasnt great so its probably for the better. splitting the "movies" into episodes also doesnt help, waiting for a movie feels better than waiting for an episode somehow.

It felt like there was a bit of a sudden time-jump at the start of the episode (and wasn't sure if I was watching the right part), but guess it's good for getting right into things.

Cool to see more Julian development, and hopefully he doesn't have to be too much in a warzone (although he did join the military as a pilot).

Woah, Julian was targeted by his instructors because of Yang. I was not expecting him to become a pilot tho, but it does suit him.

Julian is 15? I thought he was older. It’s sad how they have to risk their lives at such a young age.

An episode focused on Julian's first fight and the new recruits to start the season with, they did well but it sucks that they have to fight at such a young age. Now that both alliance and empire's internal conflict is taken cared off it's back to war between the two.
