Will this be more popular if it came out as a movie instead of an Anime?

This is one of the Anime you need to see at least once type Anime with Shirobako and New Game. This is much better the most movies about loss and moving on movies i see out there (including live action ones). The ending was so satisfactory and the show was not overdrawn or overtly melodramatic. Wish this gets a dub already.

I wouldn’t think so since a movie is only 90-120 minutes it wouldn’t be able to convey everything that the anime was able to give us. Moreover, the plot and build up to some of the scenes wouldn’t hit as hard as it did in the anime.

You mean like a movie with a 1:30hr runtime? Not nearly enough time to tell the full story.

Maybe, but it would have been so much worse that it wouldn't be worth it.

I don't mind for a wait weekly episodes so there's no need for a movie to be a format.

If it's 2-2,5 hours long, then I agree. The content itself is perfect for a movie and there are parts that can be cut out or crammed but still won't affect the overall story.

Yes, it would have been more "POPULAR", but the impact wouldn't had have been delivered by the movie as much as it did in the series. So, my answer is yes for the "POPULARITY" but a big NO for the impact delivery of the movie.

Yes and No, I think that the story could easily fit into a movie if you cut some parts, but a really interesting thing about this anime is the usage of the insert songs, I don't know if it would work as much if it didnt get as reinforced as it does in the anime

Nah this show is perfect the way it is. Condensing it to a movie would've hinder it drastically

I'm pretty sure this series was one of the most talked and watched of the season. Hell, it was for 2018 as a whole.

I don’t think a movie would have worked. You’d have to cut so much out of it too work, and we wouldn’t get to see all of the girls development.

Movies aren’t always the answer.

This show made me cry like every week, every single episode. That's how much it touched me and resonated with me.

If it was a movie I would probably cry a few times during the movie and then move on.

And there's no way they could fit all of this into a movie and making it into a three part movies wouldn't be as good, there would be a lot of wait for it to release and it would slightly lose impact.

That said, if there was a movie which was similar to this show, it would be definitely well regarded (i mean, even this show is). But it's still hard to say something about the popularity, excluding the action movies like Demon Slayer, movies like Your Name and The Silent Voice are probably the most popular. While movies like Maquia, I want to eat your pancreas or Jose and the Tiger and the Fish have still good rating, but I don't feel like there were that many people discussing it, simply they didn't reach the popularity those two movies did. And this movie could be the same case.

There is also a show or movie, can't remember, from creators of this show which should be something similar so I'm looking forward to that.

Edit: Yup, it's a movie, Goodbye DonGlees, so we will see how popular can this type of movie be.

Absolutely not in my opinion. A lot of buildups in the themes they're presenting in the anime takes a while to peak. Each episode, especially the second half of the series were all connected into the narrative, but the message and themes are episodic in nature, which means they are meant to be standalone. While yes, the story itself could be easily condensed, in the end this show is not about the journey itself, but what happens im between and what you get from the experience. Yorimoi is perfect as it is and I don't want it another way.

Not "a movie", but "two movies". I'm going by Demon Slayer's Mugen Train Arc here. The movie is equivalent to six episodes there (seven if you want to extend the length). It can work. It can be more polished than it already is. Think of how much better the Das Finale movies in Girls und Panzer are versus a hypothetical 12-episode season equivalent, albeit with a much slower release schedule.

First movie will be the preparations for the Antarctic trip, culminating on their departure from Fremantle.

Second movie will be the rest of the story, with additional scenes that are extrapolated from the series's OP.

That's enough material to cover 13-14 episodes. Whether it will be better than the series? That's a different question.
