Well what can i say except this movie is amazing. I love the concept of the movie and yeah it satisfied me. Since the trailer out, i really expect a good thing from this movie and its all paid off.

On the other hand, i think that this movie doesn't have a great animation such as Your Name or A Silent Voice but the story is really great. The voice acting really killed it considering the VA is not a full time VA. The premise itself executed really well, but i felt some flaws from it (not really that important tbh)

This is a really great movie and i suggest you all to watch this when it is out in your country. One person that made the review here said that this is just like Disney movie but blend well with the story, i have to agree with that.

Went and saw this movie tonight at a local cinema. Typical teens in an unusual situation ending up having to pull off a plan/heist to wrap up the story. The animation was nice, the songs were very good, and the story had a nice plot twist which I hadn’t foreseen. Wasn’t quite as heavy thematically (or heavy handed) as “Ryu to Sobakasu no Hime”. Enjoyable feel good movie.

Question for anyone who's seen the movie: It doesn't have any scenes of characters' grabbing boobs or panty shots or anything, right?

Beautiful music & country scenery with the AI/green energy mix. Nice even some signs get subbed, but at times typeset jumps around.
VAWTs arent efficient but sure look gorgeous with solarpanels. So Satomi mom & Toma made Shion, who been learning for 8 years.

A wonderful Disney princess musical about a happy skynet. Around 4 inserts all good songs & mesh quite well with the characters' lives (Umbrella, You Need a Friend etc).
These students quite funny & each contributes well to the plot. I like how Gocchan & Aya go well beyond their character tropes even tho they're sides. Funny how trashcan MacPro 2013 found its way into the plot. And Shion vs Thunder judo dance just rofl such great animation. Shion best wingwoman.
Usually this studio's disliked, but gj JCstaff did great this time, with help from Cloverworks etc.

Hard not to compare with Belle, both great musical-style with some tech & romance. Belle more flashy & ambitious in plot. Harmony more enjoyable & fewer characters make them more relevant in a fun & connected way.

Pleasantly surprised with this movie, I think it is overall better than Belle which didn't feel as cohesive as a movie. All the of the main cast were likeable and even though the story is simple it was done well. Soundtrack is pretty nice. I also think the art style/animation were very clean as expected of a movie release.

Ok who gave touma permission to use the school cameras to stalk satomi

Aya becoming friends with satomi is extremely shallow. She’s only friends with her because she helped her get the D. Otherwise they don’t even like each other, have chemistry, or have anything in common.

It’s was Satomi’s fault that Shion deactivated and got found out by the students. Also her fault for making Shion skip school which led to Shion getting seen outside of school. She doesn’t seem to realize this.

Near the beginning, Satomi begs the students not to snitch even though she is known for being a tattletale. I don’t mind this actually. It’s just ironic.

The movie makes ai out to be the best thing ever but those guys at the company have a point too. Ai can be dangerous if they get out of control. Coughvivycough The part where Shion grabs Touma to put on show for Satomi was sus. She even sent a picture of her location as if she was holding Touma hostage. Thankfully she had good intentions but things could have easily gone sideways if she didn’t.

Watched this in cinemas earlier today and I would say it turned out better than I was expecting (based on the trailer). I guess travelling 2hours from my place to the nearest cinema screening this movie in my country is worth it.

Not bad for the Funimation's first co-produced anime film I would say. The somehow "twist" that Shion came from Satomi's toy that Toma modified came out unexpected. I thought Shion trying to make Satomi happy was because it was Satomi's mother who was leading the team who developed Shion but the revelation make sense. The movie does not have the "god-tier" animations that you can expect from a Shinkai or KyoAni film, this is JC Staff anyway but the voice acting was superb and that also made the movie too god to watch.

I'd love to watch the movie in cinemas again but Funimation in my country only screened it to selected cinemas in my state (Victoria, Australia) and I have to travel 2hrs from my place (Melbourne western suburbs) to get to the nearest cinemas screening this (Melbourne eastern suburbs). Not even screening in Melbourne CBD area screening.

I watched this on the cinema alone because my parents was watching something else lol anyways there were a lot of relationships hinted though it's not something that sparks in this movie a lot, more or less the power of friendship is immaculate but at the same time the concept of AI and such was pretty unusual. Shion is an AI and the way she introduces herself in class is very charming and she also has a huge talent in singing. Lead your Partner was very chilling and it's almost like I'm in a musical world. I haven't watch Belle so can't compare but I'd rewatch this again.

First movie that I saw dubbed on accident in cinemas and to be fair, I don't completely regret it. Loads of Disney energy was there with the singing except I didn't hate it like other Disney films. It was clunky like other anime movies and not the most ambitious nor most well-written with the script (hell, I've seen the heist gimmick used in so many anime films recently too), but I had more fun watching this than something like Belle. There's a charm to this movie that I can't quite put my finger on, even if I know the actual quality of the movie isn't top-rate by any means like most other anime films. Production was solid too and surprisingly consistent with movement and colors for a J.C Staff production. Don't quite know what to rate this exactly, will probably flip flop for the next few days.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention too that the singing sequences were fun in this movie, particularly focusing on the Shion dance/judo practice with Thunder and the one with everyone singing to Satomi as a part of Shion's plan to 'make Touma happy' were pretty entertaining. I even like the dub having just awful ass singing for guys like Touma when trying to cheer Satomi up, shows that they really did get into the mood without caring about how they sound or not. Shion for an AI definitely was a part of the movie oozing some real personality at times.

So some parts were kinda dumb.

So the first time all the kids were apprehended by the group, wasn't all of that extremely illegal? Couldn't they just blackmail that douchebag manager with that. They kidnapped them and took their belongings.

Why...how were wind turbinids making fireworks? Why did the satellite make that beam? Where/how did the guy upload her.

And Why did they think it was a good idea in the first place to put that AI in public. Like did they not see how weird she behaved in the first place?

The story of the AI Shion with Satomi, Toma and their friends. Despite the cliche world where everything revolves around the ai community, I found the movie unique with how it connects to each people. Shion have been watching Satomi since she was still a kid. I am also amazed by the insert songs, very pleasant to the ears. I loved the part where Shion still supported them at the end to get together lol.

yea i get that a lot of the plot points seemed a bit ridiculous/over-the-top/inexplicable... but that's often what happens when you get a movie trying to deal with near-future sci-fi themes.

i'm more concerned about how "shion" got that name in the first place? did i miss something in the flashbacks? did satomi or toma name it shion when it was a tamagotchi-thingy? or did satomi's mom name her shion much later in the lab?

seems like a wasted opportunity to use the name as a hint while also tying the AI's journey together neatly...

Gorgeous movie from both it's visuals and writing/directing.

It borrows a bit from several other movies and media, like robot revolt from I. Robot and a wandering AI that evolves on it's own surfing the net like the GITS movie, all in a good way.

I was kinda expecting a full blown musical, but the "insert songs" were still pretty good and managed to adjust my expectations.

I think this is probably among the best kind of "school" anime I've seen in quite a while, since the main protagonists aren't exactly tight packed (they are quite the opposite) but all they needed was a cute robot girl to brighten their day and allow them to forgive and forget their past quarrels.

i loved it!! it was so charming, the songs were great as well. i really liked the characters & their little stories & relationships. i also think the friend group had really great chemistry & i enjoyed their scenes with shion & how she brought them together. sometimes it's hard to say what you mean, i really liked the scene where she conveyed how aya felt about gocchan into the song. there were also a plently of subtleties and details from character reactions to characterizations, it's not in-your-face but that's what i liked about it. like how gocchan was struggling not only with his relationship but his identity of self, feeling aimless, admiring the people around him & asking questions to try to understand those around him & himself. also, thunder's crush on shion was cute lol their scenes were great, especially when they sparred!!

I didn't see any "Disney things" you guys are talking about but it was pretty well made. Every scene was lovely!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

unexpectedly pretty fuckin good!!!

lots of cliches, felt very disney-like but i loved every second of it. we have the classic group. hot popular guy, tsundere chick, loner fl, awkward love interest, soft bear dude and throw in this bundle of joy of an ai in the mix.

i would've loved this as a series honestly. like aya and gotchan getting their own episode, esp him struggling with his future and her hurting to see him like that without being able to do anything, i was rly invested in their relationship lmaoo

thunder actually crushing on shion thooo😭😭 even when knowing shes an ai damn hope you fine better love soon man

that scene where they sang to satomi near the solar panels was amazinggg definitely my fav scene

and shion being the best wingman ever o77

overall rly good, i enjoyed it a lot. i rly liked the futuristic ish setting, how "normal" it was and not Too futuristic yk. the mom struggling with her job despite having many awards bc of the male dominated industry was a nice touch, they didnt obsess with it too much which is good

awe man that was such a nice watch definitely a high 7 for me

This movie is criminally underwatched. I watched it back-to-back with Tenki no Ko in my meager attempt to catch up a bit with anime movies of the past few years (I mostly watch TV series), and I have to say, Sing a Bit of Harmony was much better than the other one in terms of the enjoyment factor.

Maybe this is not the best of Yoshiura, as plot-wise and especially in terms of topics and ideas explored it is far behind Time of Eve or Harmonie. But it is certainly his most fun to watch.

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly despite the simple plot and limited character depth.

The musical scenes are extremely well done. Not only all the songs are great (it is impossible to stop listening to Lead Your Partner), but to brilliantly show the characters' awkwardness around Shion, who suddenly bursts into singing like a Disney princess in a very realistic environment, and, moreover, to completely explain within the story as to why she does so and why sings these exact songs - man, that was a treat!
Of course, the OST overall is also very emotional.

Shion steals the show, of course, not least because she is distinctly inhuman. At any single moment you are aware that she is an AI: her expression, her gestures, how she talks - especially how she talks, with very natural flow, but always with happy intonation. Quite a difficult thing to implement, as it seems, because in most AI-themed movies the AI is way too human-like in their behaviour (except 2001, Ex Machina and, of course, Time of Eve).

The dialogue are of the usual Yoshiura's flavor, very realistic but witty. The visuals are great, especially composition and direction of scenes, but that is to be expected.

I liked the second half less than the first for its predictability and purely "magical" elements, but it was OK. Some say that the villain is useless, but one thing that stood out to me was his motivation to ruin Dr. Amano's project - he is a sexist and simply holds a resentment towards a woman who got ahead of him, a male, on a career path. Such situations are rarely depicted in anime.

Overall, a great movie! Can't wait to watch Yoshiura's next project.

All 4 songs were great.

Cute AI

Good vibes from the show.

Loved how in the middle we were tricked to believe Shion went bonkers and did something horrible to Touma. xD

One concern, how the AI will deal with the inevitability of death (for humans)? AI like Shion can potentially live forever, while humans like Satomi will one day die. Since Shion was attached to Satomi so much, I couldn't stop but think about Shion's grim future... I guess I'll just slap myself so depressing thoughts can go away.

I haven't had a movie watching experince like this in a while. Honestly the premise is very base line but so many elements of this are absolutely refreshing. (Did make me bawl more then once in the second half, "Are you happy Satomi?" killed me!)

Single mom whose in a really phenomenal technical leadership raising her daughter. A group of teenagers who actually become friends in a very natural and wholesome way. The romance which I was so not expecting at all really hit the warm and fuzzies. Plus all the teens have quirks, personality, and growth. Plus I am a musical junkie and the music was GOOD not just the singing parts but the OST at a lot of points enhanced the teary eyes.

There's so many details everywhere and the twist of Shion being born from the AI Touma made, I mean. I felt like I was piecing it together and there was so many good crumbs from the very first scene and it's just kind of brilliant in how it tied itself up.

9/10 for now but it'll mostly get bumped after a second rewatch.

+ It doesn't need to be emphasised but the film in general is stunning, I usually whine about the character designs being a little plain but it worked so well with the grounded modern setting that is so well built from a plethora of world building just from the interactions. Tons to say about this but I'll leave it here.

From the creator of Time of Eve.
It wasn't as great as that, but it was decent. 5/10.

It would have been better if it was longer or as a season of a few episodes with more depth.

The bonding of friendship was too fast with just two events of helping a couple stay together, and a judoka finally win.
Satomi's unhappiness isn't extra clear either, so her cure to happiness feels odd for how lackluster the clarity and development was.

Although, excluding those flaws, the reveal of Shion being that early pet AI of 8 years ago following the boy's order to make Satomi happy is beautiful.

The lack of an epilogue is underwhelming though.
So, with the potential that this story could of have with more depth, it's a little disappointing.

Also, a (basically) real vocaloid in high school would realistically get mocked or laughed at by high schoolers, if not feel embarrassed and awkward, even if the singer is good.
A "real" life musical method of happiness is cute though.

I do like the similarity from the creator of relaying a life theme message to happiness through science fiction again, i.e. Robot vs AI.
