THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A new year begins but apparently, their teacher Aizawa is not there. Yikes.

Actually thought this episode was kinda interesting seeing events from Aizawa's perspective. Oh and there's Kurogiri trapped in Tartarus. Man, you can just feel the intense emotions from Aizaawa as a pro hero this episode. Literally tears flowing down and snapping at Kurogiri.

Bnha: "If you expect to see a miracle created by our friendship..." Xd?

Almost, Aizawa certainly put in a lot of effort. That's quite a breakthrough. So nomus aren't just like the monsters we saw before...

And that final scene, it's left me kind of intrigued and confused 0.0
It's been an interesting episode, better than the previous ones

Well, this episode had a lot of emotions hidden from the perspective of Eraser Head and Present Mike. Seeing their friend like that, having his memories altered after being thought of as dead by them can hit you really hard. I felt really bad for them and their friend Shirakumo.

It was an interesting episode as we got to focus more on the other characters in this show. Definitely a much better start to this new arc than the previous one, which was literally bland in every way. Nomus are still a confusion.

Erasure and Mic having a brush with their past. A horrible sight to see with their old best friend being turned into a horrible nomu. Shirakumo was name dropped earlier in the season but now we learn whom he was exactly. With the work studies over its back to class for the students while Erasure and Mic have make that visit to the prison. Kurogiri is a villain we've known since basically the beginning of the show, so its interesting to see him get this development here revealing he's basically the walking corpse of Shirakumo with some extra stuff thrown in. It makes perfect sense for Kurogiri to be a nomu just never thought to connect those dots until its all laid out. Nomu do after all have a human base as the beginning of themselves, with some residuals left over from that like the high end nomu endeavor fought. So painful to see Erasure plead with his old friend to remember who he is. Crying both because his quirk is hurting his eyes and for seeing his old friend in this state. They somehow did manage to get a snippet of information out of Shirakumo about a hospital. Which Hawks hears and seems to know what that means. While good ole Shigaraki is having some crazy shit done to him. Welp, next week its time, the big moment will be here. M. V. A.

Best episode this season by far, emotions running rampant, things being explained but getting more and more sinister, hawkes saying his plans in action etc etc

I had read the manga and has been waiting for this scene for the longest time, it's really sad to see this side of both aizawa and yamada, I like the inclusion of some of the emotion and scenes from bnha illegal heros, it gives you more indepth about aizawas and yamadas relation with shirokuma, (chap 59 to 66 I think), I have really enjoyed this episode thoroughly but, I that topic is covered more

Things got pretty emotional for Aizawa and Mic, seeing their old best friend in that state. I can't even imagine how painful it would be to learn that your best friend who you thought was dead was actually brainwashed and turned into a villain.

And here we go, FINALLY we're getting MVA. My hype for it died a while ago though, so let's see how it plays out with a mere 6 episodes left.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

there are one arc revolving around eraser, present mic, and shirokumo
albeit, i'd forgot which chapter. but, it is there.

yup, hoping for add on from vigilante as well.
unfortunately, i think its not possible since it would be out of main manga's scene and prolly will be a mess if those two started to mixing up willy nally

They're trying to hard to make everything connected together by three degrees of separation. But Kurogiri being a Nomu is a new knowledge to me. I thought he's just a usual leage of villain member. He might be the only Nomu that has intelligence.

Police and Hero Association seem to convinced themselves that Nomu is not a human, or even a live being. But it's more complicated than that. Is Nomu savable? All of them or just some? It's the highest controversial plot of Hero Aca to date.

Such an emotional episode. It was pretty f’ed up and sad for what they did to Shirakumo 😢 The moment with Shigaraki was a bit confusing I’m guessing they’ll explain later on, I’m so hyped !

Seeing the preview of the next episode, this shift makes even less sense, I thought that MVA took place at the same time as the events narrated in these episodes, so instead knowing how things went and having seen the characters safe and sound, you lose a bit of emphasis

So far, the best episode of season 5, coz from the next episode, the arc, for which almost all of us have been waiting impatiently for (I've been waiting for two years),
will start!

Now that Nagasaki-san (director of MHA S 1-3) is back from the third film's success, I'm sure he'll do his best, and MVA will be lit

No Anime only got spoiled. That scene was out of context and so was the Hawks one.

Things are getting back on track.
Story is taking a dark turn. Next ep's name is "MY Villain Academia'.
So, that is the name of the manga reader's fav arc. Right ?
I thought AOT was overrated , but S4 changed my mind. It's epic.

Highly recommend it

The emotions were a lot more rampant than I thought it would be in this episode. Seeing Present Mic and Aizawa losing their cool multiple times did leave me speechless, but I can't blame them for acting the way they did, considering that Kurogiri, who they were interrogating, was using the body of their old friend who was killed during their high school days. The flashback scenes with the three of them were bittersweet, too. =(

Honestly, this was pretty dark stuff and the tension in this episode was thick. Despite putting their emotions on the line, even Aizawa was crying during his passionate plea, they didn't get a big breakthrough that they were hoping for, although Kurogiri uttering the word "hospital" has to be important.

The final scene to wrap up the episode was rather disturbing and it does set up the next episode rather nicely. The "MVA" arc has been hyped up so much for god knows how long since season 5 has been airing, but if the episodes there are as good as this one, then I think the arc will be great, even if this season only has 6 episodes left to run.

I feel like the backstory reveal with the third kid and the Nomu stuff could have been done better. Instead all in one ep it's like oh ya remember this kid from school? Well he a Nomu now. They could have just started the episode with the flashback and no context. Maybe while it's happening flash to the present to show some stuff happening with Aizawa and Mic and the pieces slowly come together. But kids death isn't told to us, it's shown and it really does feel out of nowhere unlike being told "it was out of nowhere." Probably could have been a 2 episode reveal for better impact.

Fantastic episode! We got back to back banger episodes, it's just a shame there was a break between them, we could've gotten MVA this week. But anyway speaking of MVA, finally! What we've all been waiting for is within our grasps.

Props to Suwabe Junichi, he did amazing in Eraser's scenes this episode. Definitely need to read Vigilantes myself once I find the time and motivation to do so.

Damn bro, the sakuga when Uraraka grabbed the all might keychain lmao, not complaining though I am glad they're giving Uraraka some love.

Can't wait for the next episode, I really hope they nail it so they can shut up those that are worried the whole season.

Reaccounting everything in MHA Season 5 so far, this episode finishes the Endeavor Training arc...and entering the highly anticipated My Villain Academia arc next week.

Everything went by in a flash, and it's the new year already. I love how literally Mina gets that Uraraka still has her crush on Izuku, and the All Might figurine being a close present. And All Might trying to say his catchphrase with cotton candy, yeah.

At long last, both Aizawa and Present Mic are going to meet Kurogiri, one of the masterminds behind the Nomu attacks, and a present member of the League of Villains. But that they don't realize...is beneath Kurogiri, there lies a base that is this Shirakumo Oboro, one of their close friends from a past life, pursuing the hero course together but meeting an abrupt death at his work internship. The League of Villains taking advantage of that to turn him into a Nomu, and answers will be hard to come by if Kurogiri doesn't mention a word.

The interrogation of Present Mic and Aizawa with Kurogiri is in all essence of the word: intense. Going deep into Aizawa's point in his past, now we finally understand why he was so adamant on fixing the U.A. students of the past, including Kurogiri (which Shirakumo was fused into), and the present way of how he treats Class 1-A the way that it is. Either way, more than almost breaking Kurogiri's inner soul and getting their answer about Shigaraki and All For One.

The 2nd half of this episode is pure horror and despair, only made worse by the fact that Hawks's position in the League of Villains is also secured.

We're getting deep into what makes the villains work and tick in My Villain Academia.

This episode was freaking horrifying. Not bad in quality, but scary. I never thought I am reminded of how their friend Oboro was turned into a Nomu, and gave one piece of of info. But now. We are going into the the arc that became a major game changer in the next episode. Looking forward to it. This is where how 'everything had a beginning' to where it was at the 'present'. However that ending though. Oh, dear.

Strong episode, it was effective seeing Aizawa and Mic so shaken up by the true identity of Kurogiri. Beyond the development we get here, the implications are big as Nomus are evidently not just mindless monsters, and it means that things are likely much more sinister and grey then previously thought. Also,we finally get to MVA next week, and thank god cause now manga readers can shut up about it. Here's hoping it lives up to the hype and answers all the mysteries laid out over the last 6 episodes.

Pretty solid episode. The development that Kurogiri is a nomu that was friends with Present Mic and Eraser was out of nowhere, but I think they did a decent job catching us up on their relationship and portraying their emotions.
