Shigure's words are hard to accept but Tohru needs to realize the reality, especially about the curse.
Tohru's worry and despair this episode was hard to watch but I'm not surprised. The relationship between her and Kyo is something she won't ever forget. Their relationship still remains one of the most important ones this season. Imo, this was quite an emotional episode. Damn, what a cliffhanger.
Another teary eyed epsiode, probably the most hard hitting for me since this series started and by god was it good. Shigure might by brash, but he said it how it was, tohru needed to get her priorites straight. And tohrus past was quite the sad turn of events for sure. Tohru realising her feelings and how she was slowly putting her mother behind kyo was just the start of the pair getting together but that ending tho, crazy stuff
EDIT - Was rewatching to make a video about it and I saw the end seen again, wasn't that Tohru's mum? Did he get her killed in an accident or something trying to save him from a car since it seems like she's lying on a road? What is the significance of the hat? So many questions from that last scene alone!

What's with today, Man? Every show today has so many emotions.
Shigure's words were harsh to say at least but very true in their own sense. On the other hand, Tohru finally realizing her feelings for Kyo. She's finally accepting those feelings but afraid at the same time that her mother's memories will fade away. Tohru's past was pretty emotional as well.
That ending tho. I wonder what's up with that? What did Kyo just remember?
Shigure is a sly fox both inside and out, and to tell the recovered Isuzu that there's an easy way to break the Soma curse (and with Tohru overhearing the situation) eventually, he knows how to manipulate every situation to his amusement...especially the end result towards the Cat Kyo himself, branded a monster before. The Soma Zodiac family are all monsters of their own right, and Tohru will need to have another go to save Kyo out of his misery.
A moment of ennui for Kyo to understand Tohru's life through her grandpa, and it's not easy to love someone who's the odd one out. Tohru having lost her mum early on and being chided by her own family by imitation of her deceased dad, and Kyo realizing that she has been holding on all that regret from young: 2 lonely souls that have went through some of the worst circumstances, and a perfect fit for each other.
As much as I'd like to see both Tohru and Kyo get together, the journey to get there will be a tulminous one.
We have ourselves a proper Kyoru episode in this season. An episode totally focused on the number one otp of fruits basket. They were so cute in every shared scene. Tohru heavily thinking about her mother in this episode. About how Tohru has always kept her mother front and center in her mind but now Kyo is starting to take that spot. Kyo has become the most important person in Tohru mind and that scares her. Tohru is afraid her mother will disappear if she doesn't hold her memories at the most important. Its the same thing we learn here that Tohru manner of speak, her demeanor, isn't just a trope but part of how she brought her mother back from the brink after her father died.
Keeping passed loved ones memories alive is a big theme of Tohru character arc. About how you don't have to keep them front and center to keep their memories alive in your heart. Tohru has felt so badly about herself ever since she realized how much she cares about Kyo. Thinking its made her this selfish horrible person to want to break the curse and save Kyo. Who himself sees how hard she's working and knows that Tohru is a good person. Kyo letting Tohru just release and let out all her pent up emotion is so sweet, Tohru is finally opening the lid she kept closed for most of this story.
The other snippets were good with Kagura telling Tohru she needs to tell Kyo how important he is to her. Ren living at Kazuma house very sweet when Tohru went to see her cause she was worried. Kyo speaking with Tohru grandfather at the cemetery, saying how he called her Kyoko to keep her memory alive for Tohru. Kyo having those flashbacks to when he meet Kyoko himself and even looked in on Tohru when she was home alone as Kyoko worked late. Wanting to protect her since she looked so lonely. Ending with Kyo remembering something horrible.
Just like the curse that's about to break. I'm feeling more and more disconnect with this anime. Things that bind me to watch this every week become loose.
Oh boy, this was probably my absolute favorite episode of the series. TMS did not let me down.
The curse is slowly breaking since it's the last banquet with all the zodiacs finally born after a long time. What Shigure said to Tohru was the truth and the reality of Kyo's situation as of now.
This episode is also mainly focused on Tohru. It's good to see Tohru come to acknowledge that she is indeed in love with Kyo but that scares her because she feels as if she'll lose her mother being the number one in her heart. Also her way of speaking politely by copying her dad, Katsuya's, way of speaking because she didn't want her mother to leave her after her dad passed away. Both her grandfather and Kyoko know that she copied her dad. Poor girl trying to cover up her loneliness. At least she now has Kyo who will listen to her and be there for her. That sheet scene was as beautiful as it was in the manga.
Right at the end of the episode, Kyo flashes back to a memory he tried to cover up but we as audience can finally see what has been bothering him, and there lies a bloody Kyoko at his feet and he panics with Kyoko words saying " I won't forgive you".
Overall what an episode, amazing. That last scene scared me because it came out of nowhere I didn't think they'll put it here. I'm kinda bummed because they were supposed to show Katsuya's face in the picture.
This episode had me in tears SPOILERS especially when they showed a bit of Tohru’s backstory and the bed of the episode when Kyo saw flashbacks of Kyoko’s Death
Holy shit what an episode. I really thought thay she was going to confess or something but what happened was very different. It looks like Kyo has something to do with her death or knows something about it. We still have a lot to learn about their backstory. It was an amazing episode.
well i think this was an AMAZING episode!! i really enjoyed it. although i was pretty shocked at the end with the cliffhanger and everything buttttt i am super pumped for the upcoming episode!!
I know how all this ends, and have for years. Doesn’t matter; finished this episode with damp and dried out eyes, snotty nose AND goosebumps. Has not happened in a long time. 10/10. I’m jealous of those coming in completely anime new, I want to hold all you sweet babies in my arms for the following weeks. Keep hydrated.
Also noting the now cracked frame of Kyoko in the ED make me ... YELL
I swear to god . If i see hate for shigure words saying what he said then you clearly didn’t see that one episode with kagura cuz she said the same thing in front of kyo.
OMG this episode was amazing! It pulled at my heartstrings so much that I cried! Tohru's heartbreak and struggle was real. The pain and panic in Tohru's face when she found out that the other Zodiacs knew what was going to happen to Kyo, and subsequently didn't care made me angry and hurt and I already knew this information. But learning that Tohru now knows is a very different heartbreak. Omg so good. Also Tohru needed to hear that putting Kyo first rather than her mother is not a bad thing. Tohru love's them both , but she can help Kyo. She can give him the life that he deserves, make him happy, have no regrets.
The Hug that Kyo gave her was so needed, by both parties. I only wish that in this episode she did tell him how she felt about him. I didn't need a response from Kyo in this episode though. That addition would've made this episode S+. But other than that I give this episode a 10/10 .
Good episode. Out of the 6, my least favorite. So if everything else was a 9-10, this one was a 7.
The problem is they had enough content here for 2 episodes and I would've absolutely preffered it that way. We haven't had big Kyouru developments like these since EP 24 so throwing everything together into just 20 minutes wasn't ok.
They also added 2 or 3 other reveals that didn't even happen in the 3 manga chapters that this episode tried to cover! (107-109). I'm not even a manga reader but I just had to check why this episode was so clogged. They skipped/changed quite a few things and dialogues. On top of that there were important scenes that didn't even happen in chapters 107-109, like the ending and the argument between Tohru and Kagura.
Why is this so good? Every single week it just keeps on being great and delivering excellent episodes and leaving me with a feeling of both happiness and sadness. I FREAKING LOVE FRUITS BASKET. Tohru acknowledging her love for Kyo, Tohru's feeling towards Katsuya, Kyo embracing Tohru and then Kyo remembering the past, everything was done so excellently. An amazing episode.
They again rearranged quite a few stuff. Sadly a Haru and Rin moment was cut off. I was actually looking forward to that but oh well. Also I guess they are holding off on showing Katsuya's face.
Rojaseb said: On top of that there were important scenes that didn't even happen in chapters 107-109, like the ending and the argument between Tohru and Kagura.
That's because all the Kagura stuff is from chapter 114. This episode is the first one to cover 4 chapters.
Thank you, I didn't dare to try to find where it was from. It makes far more sense to have that moment after this episode than in the middle of it. It felt out of character for Tohru right now.
I'm getting pissed at the rearranging and cutting. Id say this is the first time it really made me angry I haven't even read the manga in like 5 years but the degree this feels off is getting me mad. I still have hope for things to be included but we were promised a full adaptation and this ain't it. Kyo and tohru's arcs are both suffering.
But I'm still enjoying myself. My anger is just building under my skin lol. They can do so much right but yet... anyway still got goosebumps this episode
As much as I did not want too. I had to rewatch that ending scene too many times. I am so dang spooked. What the heck?! Not only that we get to know more about Tohru and why she is what she is. I gotta say this is rough. Too rough. Dang man.
no fck you, you can't end it there... dammit... i wanted to talk abt that beautiful moment between tohru and kyo but that ending though... god dammit i can't believe they ended it there...what's with today? first it was to your eternity which broke me and now...i'm so close to reading the manga-

So far it's rearranging, as this episode adapted Chapters 107-109 that got skipped over in the last episode, as well as 114. This wasn't as common to see happen in the prior two seasons. But this seems to be a pattern with this season with the series coming to its finale, especially with adapting more chapters at once for an episode.

I remembered reading the manga and the later chapters were not very much on rearranging . it was stiill amazing in manga but for anime it be pretty off. So what i am seeing it feels right in my opinion and loving it every minute.

Yeah I hope that is the case, they just crammed so many things into this weeks episode and they skipped a lot with the kagura scene! I was hoping this season would be 24 episodes but it looks like it’ll be 13. I kind of wish I wasn’t a manga reader, I have a friend who isn’t and he is really enjoying it right now (I am too but I am greedy)

Agreed! I am trying to keep a positive mindset because I trust the author and her decisions when it comes to this season :)

So far, the only story arc skipped comes from...
Chapters 90-93 covering Kyoko's backstory.
I'm sure it will likely be covered at some point in this season. Just I'm noticing that this season is condensing events from more chapters together in a few of the recent episodes, including this one.
As an anime-only this was definitely the most confusing episode, lots of stuff felt rushed to me and then I checked and apparently it covered 4 chapters, so I guess this is the last confirmation needed that the season is only 13 episodes.
To me though, if they were only getting 13 episodes I wish they would skip the whole backstory of Tohru's parents, while it may flesh out Tohru's character I'm not sure it is as necessary as dealing with the Sohma family and making sure that part of the story is covered well. But like I said, I didn't read the manga so I don't know about that, just saying how it feels to me watching right now.
Also this is more of a nitpick, I just find it a bit funny how so many of Tohru's friends met up with Kyoko, it's like she set up Tohru's friend group for her lol
Oh damn this episode is so good especially the fact that this got me in tears and it gave me goosebumps, they've adapted this episode so well.
Kyo and Tohru's moment was really beautiful and emotional, and the way Kyo's voice changed and how he comforted her was so much better animated, and the scene before Kyo transformed was just so perfect.
And oh my the last moment before the ending theme began gave me literal goosebumps, this seriously left us all hanging knowing that Kyo finally remembered Kyoko's death and Tohru slowly accepting her feelings and putting Kyo before her mother.
That was one amazing yet emotional episode, In my opinion this is one out of the two episodes being animated so far. I loved it so much.
Also If anyone didn't realize during the ending the glass frame of Kyoko has a glass crack on it now!
Yeah, with how this episode was I’m also thinking that this is definitely a one cour season. I’m assuming Tohru’s parents backstory is going to be for sure cut out, which is sad cause I did want to see Tohru’s dad animated and they don’t even show his picture either when it should’ve. :/
Not a fan of the scene they added with Kyo with the hat either to add more drama since that felt unnecessary and honestly makes me wonder if they’re going partially anime original here?? This didn’t happen in the manga and there’s no way they can just let Kyo’s freakout slip and go onto something else in the story in the next episode.
Considering what the words are for the next episode too, I think for sure they’re going to rush many parts for the ending. I’m also assuming they’re going to cut off meeting one character and it probably also explains why they cut off that one scene in season 2 too, if they never planned on animating it from the start. Which is sad imo because I personally thought it added more to the story and brought a different view to a character, but it’s not really a necessary scene either so I’ll just have to deal with it.
Here’s hoping they still adapt the rest of Furuba well, but the more they’re changing/rearranging things and are beginning to add things, the less hope I have that the ending will be as satisfactory as the manga’s.
So heartwarming.. so comforting.. and then I started to say OOOOHHH FUCK OHHH FUCK damn shit hit the fan.
Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.
....They're just speedrunning the manga at point, huh? Well, okay :') Here I had faith this would be a well-adapted, well-paced, final... but it looks less likely each episode T_T
I'm so confused on what they're doing with Kyoko and Kyo. I mean, it's the same as the manga, but... They skipped the chapters that would have explained it... so is this all they're giving anime-onlys until Ch. 119? Well. Okay, okay. There were predictions that they would skip
Kyoko's backstory because it contained problematic content, and that looks about right at this point.
Kyoru developments, finally! Their arcs been suffering because they chose to skip a lot of the lighthearted moments between. At least the heavy moments between them are given justice. The sheet hug... "You won't disappoint me." Yep, right in the kokoro.
Judging from the quote of the next episode... Are they skipping Ch.110, 112, 113, (this chapter can be skipped honestly), and the rest of Ch. 114? Oookay.
Hmmm... so the next episode will be... the parts of Ch. 115 which they haven't adapted yet, Ch. 117, and probably Ch. 118. Maybe even some of Ch. 19 >> At this point, I don't know T_T I think they might veer off from the manga and do something anime original, in the way that the story is the same... just told differently, because that cliffhanger... it's bothering me. It's not in the manga soo where would they take it?
Ultimately, the next episode is when the snowball starts moving down the hill. So buckle up.
Okay, that one was a bit muddy to sort through with four chapters adapted in this episode. Chapters 107, 108, 109, and 114 were adapted, focusing mainly on Tohru sorting out her feelings for determining whether Kyo or her mother were more important to her. Because four chapters were adapted in this episode, this resulted in scenes being changed around, removed, and shortened. Of notable instance, Chapter 114 was combined with events adapted from Chapter 109 in the second half of this episode when 114 originally took place much later after the anniversary of Kyoko's death within the timeline of the series. Plenty to cover for changes, so here's what I noticed with them in this episode:
-The anime removed the dialogue between Isuzu and Tohru while they were together, as well as Isuzu recalling her earlier conversation with Tohru wishing to learn how to break the Sohma curse.
-Kazuma’s conversation with Yuki and Haru regarding Isuzu’s imprisonment by Akito was shortened for the anime, removing some dialogue from the scene.
-The anime removed a scene where Haru and Isuzu talked with the former telling Isuzu that he sees that she is enjoying Tohru’s company (with a flustered Isuzu denying this) and not to act on her own again, before embracing her.
-Yuki’s presence in the scene where Kyo and Tohru were talking about Isuzu being at Kazuma’s house was exclusive to the anime. The mention of the anniversary of Kyoko’s death was used to set up for later scenes adapted from Chapter 109. This replaced the later part of the scene from the manga where Kyo mentioned to Tohru he would consider going to Kazuma’s tomorrow and Tohru shown in a distressed state afterward.
-A good amount of content was changed during the scene at Kazuma’s house with Shigure’s conversation with Tohru and Isuzu about the Sohma curse:
The anime removed the scene Isuzu offering to sweep around Kazuma’s house for Kunimitsu and wondering what to do from now on.
The anime removed a scene where Tohru said good bye to Saki and Arisa while at school and then being on her way to Kazuma’s house with a gift for Isuzu.
Tohru’s exchange with Isuzu and Shigure regarding how to break the Sohma curse was shortened for the anime.
The scene where Shigure is explaining his suspicions about the curse nearing its end is exclusive to the anime, but uses dialogue from Chapter 108 of the manga. Originally, Shigure was alone walking with Tohru as he conversed with her on the subject.
A bit of the scene where Kyo noticed Tohru fleeing Kazuma’s while helping Kunimitsu was removed from the anime.
-Tohru’s monologue reflecting her inner conflict on who the most important person to her being either Kyoko or Kyo was shortened for the anime.
-Because the anime changed up the circumstances that led to Shigure revealing his knowledge about the curse’s coming end to Tohru, this led to changes in how later scenes of Chapter 108 got adapted:
Shigure is no longer present when Kyo encounters Tohru outside Kazuma’s residence. When Kyo originally came upon the two in the manga, Shigure made up an excuse saying that Tohru was crying because she got in an argument with Isuzu and would take Tohru’s gift to give to Isuzu in her place.
The anime would remove a scene where Shigure would return to Kazuma’s house with Tohru’s gift, and is surprised to see Hatori there who arrived to perform a checkup on Isuzu.
-The opening scene of Chapter 109 with Kyo arriving at the cemetery to go to Kyoko’s grave assuming everyone must have left by now and recalling his own experience at a funeral after his mother’s death was removed from the anime.
-Some of the dialogue in Kyo’s conversation with Tohru’s grandpa was removed from the anime.
-Scenes adapted from Chapter 114 originally took place long after the anniversary of Kyoko’s death in the manga, compared to the anime having them occur just after Tohru’s visit to her mother’s grave.
-Before Tohru and Isuzu’s conversation, there was a scene removed from the anime where Tohru encountered Isuzu making some drawings and then getting flustered upon noticing Tohru’s presence within her room.
-The anime removed Tohru’s reflection of her increasing feelings for Kyo gaining more importance over the feelings she had for Kyoko being a source of inner conflict for her.
-When Kagura slapped Tohru in the manga, the blow was strong enough to knock Tohru out after hitting her head on a wall. Because of Chapter 114’s events now overlapping with what is adapted from Chapter 109, this led to a couple scenes from Chapter 114 to be removed:
Isuzu getting angry at Kagura for striking Tohru, before the two reconcile with a hug and Kagura later being shocked to realize she used her full strength striking Tohru as she is tended to by Kunimitsu.
After Tohru regains consciousness, she notices Kyo, who came to pick her up after learning of what Kagura did. As the two walked home together, Tohru would internally come to terms with who is the most important person to her.
-Kyo wasn’t shown to transform in the manga as he embraced Tohru while having a sheet between them.
-In the manga, Chapter 109 simply ended with Tohru smiling as Kyo looks at the photo of her father. Tohru seeing an image of her mother and Kyo seemingly having recollected Kyoko’s death after apparently repressing his memories of it were all added for the anime. Kyo never repressed his memories of Kyoko’s death in the manga and the scene where he recalls seeing Kyoko’s bloody corpse saying she wouldn’t forgive him is taken from Chapter 120 of the manga.
Judging from the line taken in the next episode preview...
Looks like the anime's skipping ahead to covering at least Chapters 117 and 118 covering the box that Akito had shown Kureno at the start of the previous episode.
The rollercoaster of emotions continues at speed as this episode was indeed a tearjerker. ='(
I was right to expect the re-arranging of the chapters once more, but it didn't detract from how powerful the delivery of the important scenes were and, honestly, I think others shouldn't be worrying so much about how it "might" effect the ending. I know this is an optimistic wish, but I can only take so much pessimistic crap for one day... ¬_¬
Either way, aside from Kagura's rather unneeded slapping at Tohru's face, you can feel how much of a burden Tohru needed to put on her shoulders, but I really love how Kyo is always there to help her and encouraging her to not hold her emotions back.
Shigure does scare me sometimes, especially when he gives off some chaotic facial expressions, but you can't hate him for thinking the ways he does. He knew that the end would be coming and Kureno and Momiji breaking from the curse does prove his point.
The ending of the episode did catch me by surprise, even though I was expecting it do a degree. TMS is really going for it this season, even if it feels like this final season might be 13 or so episodes. Let's see what happens next. =)
Holy shit. First of all, I can see there are some manga panels being cut off again in this episode. But still, it doesn’t stop me from getting over that ending. That ending literally hit me. I sometimes forget I’m a manga reader and just instantly goes into anime only mode. Poor Tohru, we clearly see she was neglected when Katsuya passed away, which made Kyoko really depressed and immediately forgets about Tohru. Also, Shigure gave me the chills too. His sociopath ways are at it again and that’s what kinda intriguing about him.
Now manga reader mode. I’m pretty sure they are squishing everything to 13 eps, which kinda makes me worried. If the ending is bad, I’m not gonna blame Takaya for that because she’s not really involved with the production that much in this season and she could be feeling pissed too, like us manga readers. I can see why most anime onlys are confused and I’m guessing this might be explained later.
Chapters 90-93 have not been adapted yet, as well as for 110-113. Since the next episode involves with Akito alot. I’m predicting that TMS is deciding to add the remaining chapters after ep7 or during ep7. I feel like the akito madness, is gonna ruin the flow.
It was a great episode but why did they have to end off with a cliffhanger? I'm getting tempted to read the manga
I'm really curious to what the next episode will be about, hopefully it explains more
This is the best fruit basket episode to date you can really feel that tohru has been imtating her father and that she is letting go of that imatation realizing she has nothing to imitate he father for since her mother passed away and she realizing that scares her into thinking she will stop loving her mother

Do you have any source to confirm this information?
Powerful episode! Today’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for me so far. Just the follow up I needed after Fumetsu no Anata’s Ep 5.
Tohru’s real feelings and (partial) mystery are finally out and a part of it was expected but the other bits make a lot of sense now. Only remaining puzzle is regarding the accident and Kyo’s role in that. Refusing to visit her funeral followed by that jolt of PTSD, very curious-striking indeed. Man, these two have seriously had it tough though.
Nice to see a bit of Isuzu and especially Kagura, it’s been a while. Hatsuharu’s tease at the start, lol. Shigure finally taking a harder line of approach against Tohru, about darn time.
Definitely hurt to see the response from the previous Cat’s caretaker, by the way. Straight out of my pity, good lord.
Poor Touru. She was constantly smiling at the beginning. She distributed her smile to everyone around her as time passed, and she cries more than she smiles now.
