The Fuji TV Anime Lineup Presentation 2020 event announced a television anime titled Cestvs: The Roman Fighter on Thursday, scheduled to premiere on the channel's Ultra+ programming block in April 2021. The broadcaster also opened an official website, revealing staff, a teaser visual (pictured) and teaser promotional video.

The anime series is adapting both Shizuya Wazarai's Kentou Ankokuden Cestvs (Cestus: The Legend of Boxing in the Dark Ages) manga and its sequel Kendo Shitouden Cestvs (Cestus: Legend of a Desperate Struggle Steel Knuckle Fighter).

Staff
Chief Director: Toshifumi Kawase (Shion no Ou, Tenjou Tenge)
Music: Masahiro Tokuda (Deca-Dence), Akihiro Manabe (Kyokou Suiri), Yoshihei Ueda (Levius music composition assistant)
CG Production: LOGIC&MAGIC
Studio: Bandai Namco Pictures

Voice actor Hiromu Mineta (Tokyo Ghoul:re 2nd Season) is starring as the protagonist Cestvs. Profession boxer Yoshihiro Kamegai is serving as the fighting scene advisor for the anime.

The historical action manga ran in Young Animal from 1997 to 2009. Hakusensha published the manga in 15 volumes. Wazarai began serializing the sequel manga in the same magazine the following year. The ninth volume shipped last June.

Synopsis
54 AD. Cestus, a young boy orphaned by the Roman empire and made a slave, is placed into a training school for pugilists. It is here that he begins his journey to defy fate and fight for his own freedom.

Normally I like to defend CGI anime shows, but for some reason, this just looks really off in a sadly pretty meh way.

Bandai Namco moving to CG animation?! Seems a little odd, but I'll keep an open mind, could be good, the trailer didn't show much promise, but it didn't look bad, so here we go

umm.....I think a better example would be Berserk or something like that, or anything else, because the CGI in Dragon's Dogma was honestly the only redeeming quality there

The CG here is kinda jarring and a little bit off-putting imo. I've never heard of the manga until now, so I (might) give this a chance?

The CG studio does motion capture... and they don't have much to go on; I only see Love Live! All Stars.
