Welp, it looks like the anime is back to its roots again with investigating another case.

Not going to lie though, the main suspect from this episode had a very eerie style of operating in their community. No wonder there's unrest. One of the better episodes imo with the amount of background storytelling added.

Holy mother of plot twists. Things are getting a lot darker here than I thought they would.

Back to the usual case solving riddles...

And this episode, child trafficking (of the evil). Ishikawa gets his purpose sortie in supporting orphaned children, and be a good sport to contribute to society (to whch I'd question in contrast to his "I, myself" personality).

Plus the remnants of last week's case, with a twist. Looks like the people alive really sure has unrest about it until someone is murdered out of revenge. A revenge in cahoots to rid their enemies and stage a murder...it's true and good intentions gone wrong.

A really suspenseful episode, really one of the better ones so far.

So Ishikawa imposes his will onto the woman he loves, stating it's to stop her being a murderer, which is mainly about what he wants, not what she does.
His actions then cause the woman he loved to be stabbed to death and the human trafficker to be saved so he can get on with ruining peoples lives for profit.
Good job Ishikawa. If the real guy wasn't like this, than this anime is just character assassination.
“I just spent the last two years thinking that you guys knew more than me about life and I just found out that you guys are just as dumb as me.” “Duh-doy.” “Yeah, duh-doy.”

This tragedy happens because of the faulty justice system. We've come a long way from 100 years ago, but the justice system right now still has a large room for improvement.

tbh Ishikawa was in quite a werid predicament with this scenario. On one hand, he wanted to protect and stay by the mistress, but his sense of "justice" led him to rat her out as her crimes were "worse" from an outside perspective. I do hope he turns in Sonobe now that he knows exactly what he's been doing otherwise it'd seem kinda weird he gets his (potential) lover arrested/killed for trying to commit a crime but not the main target intended lol

Lol, I knew Tamaki was the culprit, it was too obvious.

I wouldn't mind it that much that the old man lived if at least Ishikawa later unmasked him, but he won't do anything! He seriously thinks Tamaki should be happy because she "changed him", as if that worths something.

The worst part is that next episode is very likely going to be about Ishikawa getting depressed and doing a lot of fucked up shit, and I don't remember the last time a MC disappointed me so much.

To be perfectly honest, this show had been a hard watch for me... up to this episode.

I decided to stick around first for the poetry and the setting, but now I've come to realize that the characters, the setting, and even the mysteries are all more poetic themselves than any paraphrased haiku ever could be.

I really have come to love this story, though how bitter-sweet it is for that love to be born when the end is so close at hand.

But then again, when is it not? All the more reason to love while I still can.
If I could be an expert in just one arcane,
and madness inducing field of study,

Poor Tamaki-san. All the things that she planned went for nothing. Two heads are better than one. She really intended to kill Sonobe in the first place, she could have asked Kagami's help to kill Sonobe instead of asking him to commit suicide.
New ED visual has some sad vibe. And Ishikawa is about to die... soon.

The original Ranpo's novella "Beast in the Shadows" suggests more sophisticated clues for events including motives of the wife.

I don't think it is accurate version of Takuboku Ishikawa because (depends of which exactly years story take place) he would be most likely already married.

This sums up everything I wanted to say. Just wow, Ishikawa was already the most annoying character in this show and he continues to prove why he sucks and it's always at the expense of others.

Right!? This story would have been so much better if someone, hell, anyone other than Ishikawa had been the protagonist, I think. I usually allow smart characters in fiction a fair bit of leeway because I have a thing for good brains, but I really don't give a damn how clever Ishikawa's supposed to be, I just cannot stand him.

And the mystery was predictable as hell, too! Dunno why I'm even continuing with the show at this point, except that I am still kind of curious about how the Accuser X arc will conclude...

God even knows! I guess cos she's a "cool woman" compared to the more "feminine" ones that he's used to, and because she told him exactly what he wanted to hear, exactly when he wanted to hear it?

It totally serves him right, imo, because she was obviously just using him (and that Kagami guy, too) for her own ends. About time he felt the other end of being emotionally manipulated!

The fact that she was the culprit was pretty obvious but Ishikawa wanting to protect her and that last part was kind of shocking.

This episode was a hell of a whirlwind, I had to make sure that I didn't accidentally skipped an episode few minutes in... I get that often these episodes try to cram a single mystery in one but maybe its best if they took the time to flesh it out. Like Ishikawa fell in love with a woman we've just met only for her to die in the same episode??? Huh, am I missing something here guys?

And just when I thought Ishikawa would redeem himself for all his shitty past behaviour... He sinks even deeper in the sea of character bankruptcy.
There are the inoffensive spineless 'nice guys' of harem anime, whom I can't stand, and there is Ishikawa in the same tier. I suppose the real person this character is based on wasn't even like that, so why tarnish his legacy?

Quite the elaborate plot to get Sonobe that ultimately failed to that dumbass Ishikawa. Killing Sonobe would be the best thing since the police wouldn't do something against his child trafficking. Even worse is that he thought he could protect her but that wouldn't have worked anyway since she would still be caught for murder, and now Kagami's death was made pointless since that monster is still walking free....

I've kept with this anime for a while because of my desire to complete what I start + the fact that there have been a few episodes that are good, but that ends here. How on earth did Ishikawa arrange for the police when he only found out that very night that Tamaki was lying? How can I care about a main character that constantly leeches off of everyone around him and for some reason gets worshiped for it? He works so hard to protect the ringleader of a child trafficking ring just so that someone doesn't commit murder? I hate with a passion the flippant expression of the idea that killing someone is never justified. It always manages to worm its way in to things just in time to let the good people die while the guilty walk free.

wth! I was so looking forward to this ep being actually good.
But in the end, Ishikawa did useless things again!

why does this show keep painting him in such a poor, pathetic light?
He's such an unlikeable character..
