The official website of the talent agency Aoni Production announced on Monday that voice actor Makio Inoue died on November 29 due to worsening angina. He was 80 years old.

Inoue was born in November 1938 in Yamanashi Prefecture. His first voice acting role was a small part in Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) in 1963. He is best known for his roles as Captain Herlock in numerous anime from 1978 to 1998 and Goemon Ishiwaka XIII in the Lupin III franchise between 1977 and 2012. Inoue was the second voice actor to play Goemon after Chikao Otsuka and was succeeded by Daisuke Namikawa.

Inoue's other roles include Slegger Law in the Mobile Suit Gundam anime film trilogy and a cameo as Enshirou Mariya in Samurai Champloo. Toward the end of his career, he made appearances in several live-action TV mini-series and voiced Master Eraqus in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts Three.

He had such a badass voice.

I will always love his Goemon, and Harlock.

At the very least he got to reprise Harlock in Super Robot Taisen T.

He was one of the all-time greats, who voiced Captain Harlock, Goemon and Fanny from Sasurai no Taiyou among others. I was quite depressed when I read the news yesterday.

R.I.P. :(
