The talk about the England and Denmark warfare situation was interesitng ot hear. Thorkell is still badass even when he uses his wisdom of words rather than his sword.

Looks like they adapted the scene with Ragnar from chapter 30. Ouch.

If you needed more confirmation to realize that Askeladd is a total asshole, well, here it is.

Great episode, we got to see more of our favorite waifus Thorkell and Canute, and I'm actually quite surprised that there aren't many doujins of them. Oh well, we just have to wait.
On a serious note, the last part of this episode was great. Ragnar's death was unexpected (although it's kind of spoiled in the opening), and the final scene was handled pretty well, props to WIT Studios for that.

Overall, 5/5

Omfg I hate Askellad but my god he's one of the best antagonist I've ever seen. He reminds me so much of Cao Cao from Dynasty Warriors. Doing everything he can to seize his ambition. Lol And I thought episode 14 was golden.

Although the anime portrayed Ragnar as an annoying whinny brat, I hate how people forget that he's just being cautious and realistic. If a random no-name dude suddenly appeared to offer his services and told you he basically murdered your men, I'd be wary too. Besides Askeladd never told him about anything, that they were gonna walk into enemy territory or why he knows Welsh people. He has every right to be angry.

Also, he was a kind person. He never yelled at Thorfinn even though he was insulting Canute on the cart, and never berated him when he called him "conehead."

For a brief moment, the atmosphere at the praying and food scene kinda made it seem that our boi psychologically wanted to defect to them if not for the man with the goatee.

Another doozy of an episode. Ragnar, RIP my brother. I hope we get more than one season, because this series seems like a bit a slow-burn, but it's getting better every week IMO.

Indeed, a case where the antagonist is hundred times more interesting than the protagonist.

Let's be real, we all knew that Askeladd was going to have Ragnar killed off at this point, but that doesn't take anything away from how it was executed at all. And that "No" to Ragnar's last request was brutal. I wonder what all this means for Canute now, though, as he has been relying on Ragnar for such a long time now.

This was honestly just a matter of time, but rip Ragnar, you were a good man.

I dunno, but feels like things will go south for Askeladd at this point.

I feel like the eating scene being so nice and cheerful was a big hint Ragnar was gonna die soon. While I do think Ragnar coddled Canute too much, at least Canute was able to be his more normal self in Ragnar's presence.

So is Askellad just gonna tell Canute "oh the English soldiers killed Ragnar so sad" and Canute will believe him? Or will Canute see through his lies and finally stand up for himself. It seems as though Canute's brother becoming the next king instead will screw up Askellad's grand plan, so having Canute go against him would probably be bad.

Damn, Askeladd! That was brutal. I felt really bad for Ragnar. It's not the death he deserved, he was a decent man and really did care for Canute. :(

Looks like the little girl who survived ended up revealing to Thorkell the location of Askeladd and his men.

It's only a matter of time before the battle.

RIP conehead. You were viewed as an obstacle to Askeladd's ambitions but at least you managed to have a last dinner with Canute. That "NO" part was pretty brutal. Ragnar's death was depicted greatly and loved the OST playing in the background. Askeladd's ruthlessness never ceases to amaze me.

Goodbye, Ragnar. As annoying as you were, you'll be missed. The scene were they ate together was nice as well. Probably Thorfinn's first real meal ever since he left home. I'm starting to like Canute, and I think Thorfinn is starting to stand him. Maybe they will be a duo from now on? And will Askeladd really protect him or was just so Ragnar could talk? Anyways, I'm excited for how this will end in episode 24.

That was just too sad.

I can understand Askeladd's reasoning but I didn't want Ragnar to die. And he says he's going to take over the role by Canute's side. That's some twisted father figure for yet another poor boy. Well, I hope it'll still do some good for Canute's character development.

Ragnar is dead damn Askeladd but lol his luck is running out though since there is a power struggle on the Vikings leadership so what now that the King wants Canute dead anyway so Canute is like useless for the plans of Askeladd, maybe Askeladd will join England but England is losing the war too lol

lets see this Harald brother of Canute and how strong he is

Askeladd is one of the most interesting characters that has ever come to anime. He's bad, but he's also good. He's a great leader, but he's a huge a-hole. He's a great fighter, yet he himself rarely fights. He's a smart and cunning person. A character whom people should never mess with.

I don't know whether I love him or hate him. Sometimes, he's such a boss and I love that. But sometimes, he does these things he did in this episode and I hate that.

He's seriously an interesting character.

Good episode. Guess Canute is going the same way as Thorfinn now, cause he was probably more than father for him.

Kinda think they'll need to kill Harald first before getting him on the throne. And with Thorkell on their back they would have a lot other problems. My guess is that with Askeldadd's luck vaining his decisons would be challenged by no other than Bjorn and Thorfinn would probably lose his goal sooner than later because they kill Askeladd first. Wonder how he copes with the fact that he was wasting his life for nothing during all those years.

As much as Ragnar was one of the main reasons prince grew into such a coward and raising him that way wasn't good either for the prince nor Denmark, you can't not feel sorry for him. He didn't deserve to gout the way he did. He was ultimately a kind man.

i knew that's gonna happen. he has to die in order for Canute to grow up. It's sad, but necessary both for the plot and his character development.

SEeems like Thorkell and Thorfinn are gonna meet again. I cannot wait for their second battle. It's gonna be lit.

So the King wants the prince killed. what a trash father and king. Like Thorkell said, the prince has many use. even if he's weak-minded, there're still manual labor and advantages he can bring you. No need to kill him! The pointed head really is a better father figure for Canute. The king acts way too king like to be a father.

i mean, what's wrong with a prince cooking? it's a necessary survival skill. no skill is ever useless. as a human being, we should be on a constant path of learning and exploring new things. the king should be happy for the prince rather than raging over his cooking.

Because he sees Ragnar as an obstacle in prince's development and the main reason why the prince is a coward. All that is not good for prince, and most importantly it's not good for whatever Askeladd plans for the future are. With Ragnar gone, Canute can develop into a man and prince he is supposed to be.

Beacuse he wants Caunte to grow up and be the man he wants him to be. Ragnar as kind as he and good for Caunte as he has been was also cuddling him. Askeladd and the Welsh general that he knew since he was a teen talked about it in episode 13. That Askeladd would need to push the chick from the nest( Ragnar).

Ragnar's death didn't surprise me much (didn't help the opening foreshadowed his end). If anything, I'm surprised Askeladd didn't did that sooner, seeing how he was an obstacle for his plans to make Canute king. Still a very sad death, since he wanted the best for his prince. He deserved better, but this world forgives no one.

Also, lately I got the feeling that Askeladd is the main protagonist of the series, he has receiving lots of focus.

Again, Canute tries hard to be best girl, but nothing can top Thorkell.
I'm happy to see that Anne survived after all.

I know Ragnar was going to die from the opening (That was a pretty bad spoiler by them) but seriously ? Dying that way ? Backstabbed by Askeladd because he wanted to make Canute grow up ?

Does the writer want us to Askeladd that much after he grew up his character to look more noble, so these last 2 episodes came on to make us know he's still a shitbag ?

Keeping the secret he backstabbed Ragnar from Canute look impossible for me. He for sure will know at one point and him and Thorfinn will be wanting revenge on Askeladd which he seems to be underestimating both massively.

So, for the prince to further develop himself is by killing Ragnar? Well, that's the reality of having kingdoms and power struggles. Full of traitors.

That's a big revelation right there, Prince Canute is trying to be killed by his own father. Let's see when they reach Gainsborough.
