THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Well, after a lot of time we can see how this series really is... and is good.
First episode introduce Seiya, Saori and also main plot.
The first episode works a lot to me and definitively It's better than I expected.

OP/ED are cool. CG is pretty good and character design is great (done by Terumi Nishii, same of JoJo: DIU).

Saori is so cute!

Good animation, felt a lack of emotion from the way they presented the plot, let's see if it becomes more exciting in the next episodes.
Can't say I enjoyed the new antagonist and, god, I don't remember Seiya being that annoying.
I feel like I'm watching a childish version of the 1986's show, low level violence, no blood....

I just loved it! They changed the plot correctly, updating and making everything more modern.
As a huge fan of the original series, i can say this remake is great.

I like the changes that they made to the beginning of the story (the original was a huge mess, frankly), but still think they could've gone without that whole military subplot. It conflicts too much with the story later on (which they will hopefully adapt). But hey, at least they removed those transformer guys, right?

Also, anyone else not able to get the Japanese audio on Netflix or is this just a Brazilian thing? I'll end up having to watch it on Kissanime.

Edit: Oh God, Seiya's sister is called Patricia in the subs. Can't stop laughing. F*****g Patricia. What kind of parents name one kid Seiya and the other Patricia? If they had another son what would he be called, Abdul?

Not really, the story didn't need a modernization, it was Americanize and lost the appeal. Characters that seem they didn't belong in the same world, and some other characters personalities felt dry, we didn't
need to change Shun's gender, Being the character with the most feminine design and characteristics, it is easier to be a woman in the new version however what is disguised as inclusion ends up being discrimination.

Saints=predestinated children, Cosmos=innate power born out of feelings rather than convictions? AND Saga's ambition has been stolen by an original character?!
Why did I end up watching this?

Wait, I found one positive, young characters actually look like their age. Too bad they also often look like bad molding paste figurines (what's the word? clay?).

More about the show itself: it feels flat. Music of course doesn't help, as bland as it is.
Using such a barebone skull as St Seiya is already a bad start, but if you can't even keep the few captivating things from it , it's doomed. Although, for a simple weekly morning cartoon on american TV, it's perfectly alright for children (but this is a delusional view of mine, since this is actually kept discretely on the Internet and people have to be interested to watch it)

3/5

I watched it in japanese redub with horrible subtitles, that were probably english dub dialogues, since everyone but Seiya and Aiolos had their real name (Alman/Mitsumasa, Sienna/Saori, Patricia/Seika XD)

@AshitaNoJonas Ich wollte dich warnen aber es sieht aus, wie es zu spât ist. ^^"

@YGP I regularly see Nishii's drawings and the CGI modelling looks sadly nothing like what she can do, even as a simplified version.

@Zetto22 Having cell phones and whatever else is fine, but this doesn't serve the series at all in theory, since St Seiya despite being first linked to the 80s and the "real world" rapidly becomes totally removed from it with everything happening in the little society of gods and their respective armies.
If you mean the Glaad guy, well, I don't think Saga's dilemma was outdated in the slightest.
As for the "using Saints as a base for technology", we already got it (sadly) in the 1st adaptation with the stupid Steel Saints

@AnotherGuy Yes, avoiding the mess created by the first anime is great. But I found the comics/anime's very beginning (the children training for years to become Athena's soldiers, the knowledge of Cosmos being something you learn) less stupid than another "you're Desiny's child", especially since there are many Saints.

Japdub just has completely different dialogues, I'm not fluent, but its pretty easy to tell. Kinda weird thing to do TBH. All the other language translations are based on engdub too, so you basically need to know nihongo to comfortably watch it with japanese voice actors. I guess zero language knowledge gonna work too)
Dialogues are pretty basic tho, so you are not losing much either way.

Yeah, forget what I said. Because they never mentioned the Mitsumasa's orphanage and the other boys in ep. 1 I thought they'd skip the Galactic Tournament and the Black Knights arc, which don't work well with the later canon. I thought that Saori and Seiya would meet the other boys while on the run or something. But having watched the rest of the season now I know that was not the case.
If anything, they made everything worse and more confusing by speeding through important character introductions and not explaining the lore of the series properly. I pity people that are new to the series and who are watching this.

The English dub is the original language, JP cast confirmed they adapted the English text (and they "flavourized" the text so it matches the series' "language" in JP). Anyways, I liked a lot this episode, my favorite of the show, which is, overall, fine.

i like it

this level of 3DCG was expensive few years ago and now with a cheap anime budget today they can already do this too, 3D animation will become cheaper and more cheaper as years pass by

lets see how this modern retelling will go with only 6 episodes

This was so bad that I actually ended up enjoying how bad this was. lol.

The eyes looked like stickers on cheap dolls, and it felt like they would peel off if you get them wet.

The human models looked quite weird as well. And the mouth flaps were terrible.

The subtitles were horribly wrong, but I didn't mind them very much this episode as I was somehow able to understand the dialogues.

Is Japanese not the original language for this anime?

I heard Saint Seiya was an old manga, so I wasn't expecting to see smart phones and the internet. I don't think I mind the modernisation, though.

All the clothes looked like a simple coloured Lambert, and Seiya's jeans looked so out of place because of the properly textured material.

I did like the fact that this was a 3d animated anime that wasn't trying to look like a 2d animation. Though, I was kind of expecting it to be related to Legend of the Sanctuary in some way. lol.

I've recently returned to watching this show. I decided to pick up English dubbing this time, for better experience coming from that Saint Seiya CGI reboot.
