| You should at least watch the first season of Index or else you won't have any idea what's going on. You can probably skip the other seasons and Railgun spinoff although Railgun S readapts Accelerator's arc from season 1 of Index and does a much better job so I recommend watching it anyway. |

| Perhaps I could be mistaken, but if the OP has to watch a series for context, couldn’t he just watch Railgun S instead of Index? The arc involving Accelerator is practically the same, just told from Mikasa’s perspective rather than Touma’s. I only say this because Railgun S is a SIGNIFICANTLY better series than Index. To answer the OP though, you might. Through five episodes, the story itself isn’t closely related to anything in Index or Railgun, but there are going to be a lot of characters where you’ll probably be like “who the hell is this?” and you’d know who they are if you’ve watched Index or Railgun. If I had to make a recommendation, I’d say watch Railgun S instead of Index...and even then, you don’t even need to watch the whole series. You’d only need to watch the first half because the second half of that series is a completely different arc that doesn’t even have Accelerator in it. |

However, I came to learn that episode 1 was an Anime-Only adaptation and the material only starts from episode 2 onwards, so even Light Novelists got a nice surprise. The beauty about the Toaru series is that there's no "right" way to get into the series. You could Start off with Index or Railgun, some even start with the first Index Light Novel because it goes into more depth, proceed to watch a few episodes, then switch over to the Manga. Also, don't feel pressured when everyone recommends you watch the Railgun S Arc, they only have good intentions because believe me, it lives up to the praise.
