THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
It's the series' finale but I still felt the same attitude as many of the recent episodes.

The match is great, contained good deal of psychology although I wish the narration would be less Hyuga is really a certified badass in this show. I wonder if he's superhuman sometimes with some of his moves. That bicycle kick was just incredible!

Tsubasa made a great defensive move to help out his goalie. Just a phenomenal episode. Lol, Hyuua took his shirt off.

A past opponent (Watano-san's character) encouraged Hyuga guy to continue fighting. That made him continue as himself, not "wanting to be Tsubasa".

Wow, Hyuga guy using the twins skill to shoot overhead tiger shot. Goalie trying his best, but needs Tsubasa, but still got stolen.

Tsubasa blocking Hyuga guy's tiger shot using his hair, then Tsubasa vs. Hyuga guy again.

Time out while that, and in the end went up.

Even though they are draw, both teams think they won (V3 and V1). They all felt good after the game. Even Hyuga guy said not going to chase Tsubasa anymore. Exchanging t-shirt and winning flag.

Announcement of best players (and probably team to go against European teams?).

Hyuga guy's coach ripped resignation letter and announced it's him who will resign.

ED w. group ver., as expected.

Misaki is part of the team! Though Tsubasa is not in the team for now, everyone's waiting for him for #10. Wakabayashi also shown.

Doesn't seem like the continuation has announced, even though the story has not ended.

AMAZING! I never expect the last episode be so early and translated!!

Definitely the best match from all the season! Ending as a tie was nice for both teams, they really gave their best in the field.

That last collision between the Drive shoot and the Tiger shoot, a little more power and puff end of the world. David Production is really preparing for JoJo part 6 xD

The preparatives for the european league are almost done, I can't wait to see it!!

One of the best sports animes I've ever seen!! Along with Hinomaruzumou which finished last Friday.

Great end!

Nankatsu and Toho, Tsubasa and Kojiro are champions together!

'Tsubasa & Co.' is the 'golden age' of Japanese soccer!

We see also Taro, Genzo, Roberto and a blond boy ... this could mean ... is a sort of preview!?

Great work David Production, now we're waiting for 'Captain Tsubasa season 2'!

Please animate also all the 'Captain Tsubasa World Youth'!

And don't forget':

"The ball is my friend!" by Tsubasa Ozora of 'Captain Tsubasa'

PS

The uniforms of the Japanese Youth team are like those of 'Shin Captain Tsubasa' and the manga, cool!

I really hope a sequel, in this last chapter we have seen schneider with an older wakabayashi, the future national team with all important characters, misaki taro turning back, tsubasa waiting to go to brazil...

Too many loose ends to close with just 52 episodes. But well, the series in general terms has been amazing.

What a great finale (thanks to shirtless Hyûga) ! The progression toward the ineluctable victory of the hero, Hyûga's reflections, etc, all of that surely helped.
What didn't help was the total lack of movement for the entire episode, I was expecting a bit more than the usual for the last episode, but got even less.

Wasn't there supposed to be a promise between Tsubasa and Sanae?

Enjoyment: 4.5+/5

Overall:
A good revival of the saga's beginning, benefiting from a better pace, emphasizes on various iconic moments, and less sketchy drawings than the 1st TV version. BUT the music is very limited and it feels too much like an almost non-animated paper theatre.
While it's "fine" for something like Jojo because of the impossible poses and the far too elaborate charadesign even once it's simplified for TV, Tsubasa's simpleness of drawings should allow movement to actually be shown. Series of computer imitations of Dezaki-like stills supported by a few filters are pleasant (when not abused) but aren't enough to replace actual moving pictures.

7/10

So, what's next to watch? The European friendly match maybe? Or the OAVs?

If the sequel was already planned, Schneider would have talked. They didn't even bother giving him a voice.

Are you sure?! I doubt this is the case in Japan. And that's what matters to them.

@Sanae28 Thank you for this. (although, thinking about it now, he might have meant "western" popularity wich is a way on the Internet/on MAL to talk about popularity in the USA).
What is this "manga remake"? (I'm interested)

This was a great finale. There wasn't much else I could ask from Tsubasa except maybe for less repetitive music, less cut content and fewer stills.

It was almost the perfect adaptation so 9 / 10.

The waiting for the sequel will be terrible. D:
Now they are an all-stars team (except for Misugi and Genzo, who I believe to remember is not going to be on this team)

Great trip to my infancy. 25+ years later, I can barely remember anything aside from some scenes, so the journey has been great!.

I may be a little biased, but is a 9/10 from me.

Any idea when the second season could come? or be confirmed, for that matter...?

No sequel is confirmed, unfortunately. I advise you to just read the manga from chapter 85 and onwards. Then you can move on to the other arcs easily. (World Youth, Road to 2002, Golden 23, Overseas Fight and finally Rising Sun which is ongoing)

I meant start with chapter 85 of the original manga, because the third arc isn't animated.

Finally. This, and the 51st episode took an eternity to get translated.

I guess as a kid I missed out on these last episodes, so it's good to finally see the ending of a childhood anime. It was the same with "Slayers" for me.

I really really hope they are going to continue the series. Though judging by how few people try to make an english translation, even after weeks passing without no translatons, I guess it's not that popular.

Anyone knows if there are any events coming up where a next season could be announced?

I rechecked this forum to see whether there's a confirmation of sequel or not since some people on other site said confirmed on October. What a bullshit! Those guys must have confused it with split season of SAO Alicization or something or think extended April fools is funny .

On that note, what are the possibilities for sequel? Japan 2020 olympic? WC 2022? I quite liked this remake since at least it doesn't overuse CGI like many anime nowaday, but content-wise, i prefer 2002 remake more than this since it covers far more story.

This show was elevated by the awesome musical score. I've seen Rose of Versailles for the first time like a month ago and some of the soundtracks of Captain Tsubasa reminded me of that. Of Fate/Stay Night too.
My rating for all of these shows would have been slightly lower if not for the awesome atmosphere building soundtracks.

Having that out of the way, Captain Tsubasa needed to be shorter. It pushed too many injury references to force some emotional reactions, but it came just as that, meaning forced and overdone. Other than that, it was fine.

Don't you think it's a little early to announce the second season !?

I mean the Tokyo Olympics will start in July 2020 and probably the staff of 'Captain Tsubasa' need a break of a few months to recover and work better.

'Captain Tsubasa' is already connected with the Olympics ...

Talking about old series which I watched a few times over and over why this one is 52 episodes while comparing to 128 of old series?

Answer is simple lots of not really important things were cut like lots of matches had this running across infinite field do you really want to animate it today? Or like thinking 10 minutes of episode "how he fight injured like this" during every match from Hanawa one? There was also in 128 episode anime thing where Takeshi tried to ask Tsubasa for help to convince Hyuuga to play but he meets Sanae which tells him Hyuuga needs to take care of his business and not burden more injured Tsubasa.

Second thing is like we didn't got not sure how to call it reanimated? maybe let's leave it like that reanimated 5 of Tsubasa films where first one was with U-13 team so basically grade school boys right after first tournament where in Nankatsu was Wakabayashi and Misaki. So during match in this film Tsubasa actually meets Karl Heinz Schneider the European Emperor of soccer which was called like hybrid between Hyuuga and Tsubasa. This was also mentioned during 128 episode anime right before last match of Tsubasa in Japan he is lying on bed dreaming about that match and Hyuuga visited him to see if he will be able to fight him in final.

I think they might start air something like Shin Captain Tsubasa soon just to finish right before Olympics cause it was like one season anime just like 12 episodes. But to be honest it's very interesting cause I don't remember it but I think in Shin Captain Tsubasa they made it looks like Schneider and Tsubasa don't know each other which is a blooper because they fight each other during first film.

Talking about this new anime it's 10/10 for me I was surprised seeing that it will be aired and I loved it even if it was a bit short. They cut some things but as I think they did it well. Can't wait for next anime and I'm not sure how they would continue it after Shin Captain Tsubasa which would be obvious thing to air next after this 52 episode anime. Because Captain Tsubasa J and Road to 2002 both are starting from begin story and they would have to like merge everything into new anime and like maybe start doing manga later? I don't want to make spoilers but I hope they will one day start making later manga into anime.

Sorry for this long post but I love this series and it's really something for me.

And so it ends. Surely, one of the most intense matches in the anime and although it felt truly overdramatic for the most time, it had its really good moments.

Hyuuga's last goal was definitely my favorite play in this whole adaptation. That Overhead Tiger Shot was just amazing.

And regarding the final score, the idea of both Nankatsu and Toho sharing the title feels a bit hollow to me since that way, everyone got what they wanted but well, I guess it's fine because I think I would have been really mad if Hyuuga had lost xD

Overall, This anime was a pretty enjoyable experience. Some matches were too much absurd for my taste but there were others that had me really excited for the next episode to come.
Hyuuga also ended up becoming my favorite character in the series due to his growth as a person and player. Definitely a way better written character than Tsubasa without a doubt.

That said, I hope I can see a "second season" announcement anytime soon. 7/10

This isn't even a strange thing in real life either.

My brother also played when he literally had his feet destroyed and stopped only when he couldn't take it anymore.

He started playing football when he was only seven, after watching 'Captain Tsubasa' the OG anime on TV, played football for more than thirty years, was a good local player and even auditioned for the Juventus as a young man.

My brother had a high fever when he did the audition, but he managed to play the game (obviously he collapsed the next day) and when he returned home he was very happy, because he had met Lippi and DelPiero.

According to him it's also very fun to play in the rain.

But my family is a family of football and sports lovers in general, we are all Juventus fans and even my father played calcio.

Usually when a game starts, the one in the field forgets everything and everyone and focuses only on the ball and the game.

I know many children, now grown up, who are always very happy to kick a ball!

Thanks for sharing your experience, it seems like this is not limited to football/soccer but also baseball

https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2019/02/8547aef98a86-baseball-japans-practice-culture-sacrificing-childrens-arms-surgeon.html

And leave it to Japan to turn University marathon (As seen in anime 'Run with the Wind' or Kazetsuyo) into a tortured show

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2002-jan-01-mn-19390-story.html

But at least there's some light that one of the most influential sports cartoon which I won't give a name to avoid spoiling has protagonist give up the sport before the sport destroy protagonist's life. I hope it inspire the 'safety first' message to athletes.

A pretty decent and faithful adaptation. Though, I still think the original handled the drama better. I still haven't watched the original in japanese dub, but the spanish dub handled it dramatically enough to see Tsubasa really hurting, which didn't happen in this show. The new art just barely showed Tsubasa injuries and that put me off in some episdoes.

Still, I love Captain Tsubasa and the shooting effects were excellent. It is too bad that Cap isn't as popular as Jojo and will probably not get the rest of the manga adapted.

7/10

Well, its not super popular, but it is one of the most if not the most popular sports manga, at least in Japan, i think it has popularity enough to deserve an full adaptation. (I mean, even JoJo you mentioned referenced Tsubasa once.)

Stopping to think about it, the only other adaptation that faithfully adapted the manga was the 1983 one, except for the fillers of course, and in that time the manga was still new so it was probably harder to adapt. After that, the other adaptations (J and Road to 2002) tried to do an short version of various arcs, instead of adapting them fully. Now, almost 40 years later, we finally have again an adaptation that fully adapted the first two arcs, and the manga is mostly finished, so thats why i think we finally gonna have an full adaptation.

Are you so sure that 'Captain Tsubasa' isn't popular?

For the promo of Tokyo 2020, Japan chose 'Captain Tsubasa' in your opinion, why?

Now the most famous sport manga'anime should be 'Haikyuu', right!?

A ton so sport anime came before and after 'captain Tsubasa'.

Maybe because 'Captain Tsubasa' is a sort of fusion between sport and manga/anime (Japan culture).

Remember that 'Captain Tsubasa' taught respect, sportiness, friendship and determination to many sport lovers worldwide, not only soccer lovers.

This show in perfect for children, and, the most of fans, know the translated names of the charas, what's wrong with this?

Children can't watch 'Ct' in Japanese with subs, right!?

This is the first time with 'CT 2018' that I watched it in Japanese with subs.

I think that the Italian voices of 'CT' are always so cool!

Many fans of 'CT' aren't nerd or otaku, but what's wrong with this!?

I'de like to make you notice how they nerd/otaku and sporty people can be similar:

- an otaku watching an anime 'This is like that anime ... of ...'

- a soccer fan 'This is action is like that action of that match ... of ...'

Maybe not all sporty people are stupid and maybe some nerd can be good in sport, like that boy of cycling.

I'm the perfect fusion between a nerd and a sporty people and I like sport manga/anime. beacuse I always watched many sports on TV, from when I was little.

But only thanks to anime/manga, I understood baseball.

I want to make you notice that 'Captain Tsubasa' is famous all over the world and this is a fact, like soccer.

It's not a case, if many really soccer players love it.

Remember that many people will go to Japan for Tokyo 2020, many of them know 'CT' and also Japan understood this.

Even the Olympic games passed from Brezil to Japan, and also this it's a really a big and iconic connection between 'Ct' and real life.

In Japan is in reprint also the original 'Captain Tsubasa' manga, not only the manga remake of the elementary arc.

'Captain Tsubasa' became part of the internation sport culture and it's the perfect ticket of visit for Japan for Tokyo 2020, than 'Ct' you can find other sports, not only soccer.

The strenght of 'Captain Tsubasa is in the fact that, if you try, you can kick a ball ans the ball will be youe friend, everybody can do this and have fun without super-powers.

'Ct' is watched also bu little children of 3/4/5 years old and parents never complain about this.

Maybe David Production will be able to produce 'CT and 'Jojo' together.

'First of all Ct' is famous all over the world!

Then. I'm rewatching the 'CT 2002' and I'm 100 agree, because they really cut too much and took too many poetic licenses.

The OG series of '80 and the 'Shin Captain Tsubasa' are really well done, then, the music are, the same of 'CT 2018'.

Doesn't seem like the continuation has announced, even though the story has not ended.

I'll wait until April 12 for the possible sequel

If the sequel was already planned, Schneider would have talked. They didn't even bother giving him a voice.

@Klad The french publisher's simulcast website: ADN. Episode released weekly (for free) every week after the japanese broadcast (many pirates upload ADN's videos on ok.ru). Some also directly watch the japanese TV.

April 8, 2019
@Sarah-Sama It's the same result everywhere.

April 9, 2019
@IrwansyahPutra No second series has been announced.

Cap isn't as popular as Jojo

Are you sure?! I doubt this is the case in Japan. And that's what matters to them.

@Sanae28 Thank you for this. (although, thinking about it now, he might have meant "western" popularity wich is a way on the Internet/on MAL to talk about popularity in the USA).
What is this "manga remake"? (I'm interested)

The manga remake is this ...

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/NEOBK-2296266?s_ssid=e38095cbc4ef85b9b

I bought it and it's a sort of re-styled and modern version of the 'elementary arc',
there isn't a translation on Internet, but I think that could be released soon abroad ... finger cross!

'Ct' is famous in all that countries, where the anime is arrived and soccer is popular, it's only that many of their fans are children and that can't express their opinion on-line, because of their age.

Probably they prefer to have fun kicking a ball so as to imitate the heroes they love so much.

@Sanae28 Thanks !
Well, the Tsubasa craze (Olive & Tom, sorry) was a craze when I was a child in the early 90s but there was nothing left after that for the later generation (except discrete rebroadcasts on satellite and a short broadcast of 2002 on a documentary channel for the contemporary World Cup).
During the last 8-9years, the neighbourhood kids I could see playing in fornt of the house were all "imitating" Inazuma Eleven. And soon the 2018 Tsubasa will be broadxcasted on the first national channel, thus making it widely popular (among children who aren't growing up the parental smart-phone in the hand...), so I guess it's a matter of generation.

[over for the out of topic, sorry]

In Italy actually many children of '80 re-watched 'Captain Tsubasa OG' and 'Captain Tsubasa 2002' with their children, to teach them what soccer is.

The manga of 'Captain Tsubasa' until now sold more than 82.000.000 of copies and is among the legendary an the neverending manga, like Jo-jo.

Right 'Captain Tsubasa' has also: two stations, a road and statues, only in Japan.

Do not think that the city of Tokyo would have made an investment of this magnitude, without scope without thinking of an economic return?

'Captain Tsubasa' is the 'Dragon Ball' os the sport anime/manga, don't forget!

PS

There're many fans of 'Captain Tsubasa' in France
