It was a refreshing break from the status quo.

This anime did a lot of things very differently when it came to artwork and animation:
Extensive use of 3D CG, unusual lighting, wide-angle camera lens effects, unusual "camera" angles, moving the "camera"/view position through shots in unusual ways. The visuals were breathtaking: unusually detailed, crisp, clean, and stunningly realistic at times.

Personally, I think it contributed positively to the surreal feel of the series. It made this series unique and was a good fit for this story.
So many people just can't appreciate the effort that went into creating the perfect atmosphere for this show.

The only downfall was the terrible framerate. It was a bit of an eye-strain at first, but I quicly got used to it.

People are hating on this because it's different, when they should appreciate it for that reason instead.
I'm 100% certain that if this were to be remade in traditional simplistic 2D drawing form, it wouldn't fit as well.

When I read all the reviews, I was discouraged and expecting disappointment. After watching this series in it's entirety, I wouldn't have it any other way.

While you're not the only one, it is concerning.

I mean, the art style GoHands employs is very pretty and detailed. However, everything surrounding it is a mangled, clashing, dysfunctional mess of shattered frame rates, hideous CGI, reused animation, consistently inconsistent frame rates, missing frames in animation, horrendous choreography, nightmarishly distracting and vertigo-inducing camera, hideously bad photorealistic fire effects and menus, and so much more that make this a nightmare for the eyes. It doesn't really fit at all since aside from the kaleidoscopic imagery (which was the only other positive I could give to this series and even then, Big Order did that better), as very little about this series tries to be surreal in tone. Even then, it could've been accomplished in a much better way that wasn't a production disaster; see Fate/Extra Last Encore and various other Studio SHAFT works for more on that. It manages to be woefully overproduced yet somehow underproduced at the same time, which is of no benefit. Plus, the saturation of the lighting was searing to the eyes and added absolutely nothing otherwise, as it served no purpose.

If they managed to actually perfect the techniques they were going for (improve the CGI, know how to use their dynamic camera better, have good choreography, actually put effort into every scene and frame, etc.), then I could see what you mean. It didn't need to be 2D for the visuals to work (though if they did try that, they'd still need to not have missing frames or mediocre at best character deigns). Alas, it manages to not work for the series or its setting and tone, and instead, add a unique level of visual failure to an already terabad series with writing that is arguably even more mangled than the absolute creative misfire of visual presentation. No one hates it because it's different; people hate it because it fails on so man levels and causes active harm to various viewers (vertigo, nausea, visual overload, eye-strain due to intense brightness, etc.)

I liked art style(excluding cg scenes), and camera angles (like the fish eye shoots of scenery) but when anything moved it was ungodly horrible but when still I thought it looked good with it's high detail style, great shader, and color palette, but the story is another story it was bad all around and the same can be said of the characters

i think gohands is misunderstood, their idiosyncrasies remind me of robert rodriguez, who's similarly maligned and misunderstood. in-your-face, garish CGI has also been a thing for awhile, it's a staple in internet alt-club music scenes (see: ghe20 g0thik, 1080p, PC music, all of vaporwave)

No you're not the only one. Gohands is probably the only studio right now that experiments with CGI in anime the way they're doing it. It's refreshing in its own way. Some parts I don't like (such as the chains effects) that could be done in 2D instead. Other than that I'm quite a fan of what they're doing.

I only watched a couple episodes, but nah I actually liked it too. I really like the aesthetic that they are going for, it's pretty cool. The only thing I hated were the chains. Those chains man...

You're not the only one, there was a guy that went on a crussade to defend this show, if you actually like this you should get an official "shit taste" certificate though.
There are anime that raise the bar, this lowered it. It's the only anime i know of that can cause actual physical discomfort to the viewer.

Just because something is unusual, doesn't mean it is good. Other creators might use conventional methods for a very good reason.

Omg I wanted to watch something bad for fun, but now, my eyes seriously hurt. :(

Yes. It's you. Go Hands is studio I been following since I have started watching anime, K was one of my early anime lists and I been following the series and the studio for over 5 years or more. After K Return Of Kings finished I was dying for more. When I saw the trailers for Hand Shakers I was excited to see more of Go Hands, I was completely disgusted by the visuals. Go Hands Studio has some really good animators but their CGI and composition with annoying storyboards ruined the show.

Hand Shakers had a squeal called W'z. The saddest part is K Seven Stories was released few weeks before W'z started airing and most of the time was spent on releasing Seven Stories and they spent little to no time on W'z and released it as a complete shit post.

The animation didn't just give me eye strain, it triggered my motion sickness. It's a damn shame to be physically unable to watch the show due to their choice in art and animation. This is the only anime I have seen thus far where I can say this in a literal sense.

Feel free to love this style. I simply can't since it forces me to be unable to watch the show.

Hey buddy, I think all anime (except 7 Deadly Sins S3) have their own unique art style. Personally looking back, I liked this one too. I’m pretty open to most anime art styles and I don’t really mind the CGI. I didn’t really like the story but the music was such a banger, especially the ED song. Welp anyways, you’re not alone. I like the anime art style too but it couuuld have been smoother, or less robotic? It’s kinda hard to word but it’s something pretty unique I’ve never seen before. I wouldn’t say it’s that bad as everyone’s been saying but I’d say it’s decent at the very least so yeah. I got to watch it without any complaints, I’m good.
