THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Interesting episode especially at the book fair.

I feel like Akira and Kondou got close but also had some drama again with the time they're hanging out together and connecting through their relationship. Only 2 episodes left though so this will likely end with an anime only ending.

Next episode will decide whether this is going to reach the manga's ending.

So, the last episode ended on chapter 32, then this episode started half-way through chapter 37, skipping the chapters involving Kase and some other side characters.

From that point they adapt in order to chapter 38, which involved the book store story. But after that a few scenes of chapter 48 are shown, which involved Tachibana having the medical check.

After that it goes back to chapter 39, which shows Kondou eating ramen and watching his friend on TV. They stop adapting halfway that chapter and skip all the way to chapter 67, where they adapt the second-half.

The way they adapted chapter 67 though... That bookmark was a gift from Tachibana from her trip to Kyoto... And it didn't have the clover. But the conversation they had was pretty much the same I guess.

I'm really glad that they haven't done a time skip so far and managed to fit the chapters perfectly together without affecting the flow of the story. This emans they could adapt the chapters before 67 as well.

But if they continue from 67... I just hope they don't.

A friendly bookfair trip and a lesson on trying this week. Both Akira and Kondo can relate to the swallow, in track and writing respectively. The show remains beautiful, in its visuals and messages. Such a treat this has been to see adapted. :)

This show leaves me breathless.

Kondou and Tachibana told each other exactly what they needed to hear.

That was so poetic.

Great episode again.

The bookfair outing was fun to watch and I loved how Akira and Kondo eventually used Hugo's method of writing messages to each other. That was really sweet.

We got a little insight into Kondo's past about how his pursuit of writing eventually tore his family away from him.

So Akira's all healed now and if she desired she could take up track again, I really hope she does attempt to get back into what she loved

The soundtrack and visuals in this show are always a treat to watch.

The swallow that couldn't fly analogy at the very end was really apt in representing both Akira and Kondo's situation in their respective fields.
"The Swallow that's truly given up on flying would likely even forget looking up at the sky"
Perhaps there's hope left for both of them?

A nice time at the book fair. I like how the old man thought Tachibana is Kondou's daughter lol. The things that were said about the swallow was poetic. It's sad to know that Kondou's writing took his family apart. Tachibana's injury is healed, but it's up to her if she wants to run again and I hope she does.

I LOVED this episode. It was so beautiful and poignant. The series definitely hit its stride with this one, I'm so glad we got to see more of his life and what drove him to stop writing. Akira is such a lovely girl.I had so many pleasant feelings in this episode, especially when they discovered the bookmark and were talking about the swallows.

UGH I LOVE THIS SERIES <3

It seems like that at times,Tachibana and Kondou don't need words at all too.

I also liked the metaphor with the swallow used for both of them.

Regarding their repressed ambitions.Unfortunately there's not much time left in this cour. Hope they're still able to wrap things up in a satisfying manner. Tho I would obviously rather welcome a second season ^^

That "?" "!" text message was great.

It is bothering me she keeps on calling him "store manager" instead of his name. There is no need for that when they are not working, especially after they became friends. Changing the way she calls him would be great to display their relationship progression.

Exactly.

We're "watching" poetry.

There's also a "Iyashikei" vibe when following those two. I just feel better after this episode.

Kondou's Background story tho... quite sad but surely explains things.

This anime holds a lot of really great metaphors and quotes. Specially that one of the "shortest mail", it was brilliant.

Another great episode from an amazing series. I loved everything, especially the silent scene where Tenchou wandered off, she saw the post from her track team mate, and sent the "?" text. It's rare that an anime is able to convey so much through pure animation and direction, not having to rely on any inner monologue or anything like that. It's the same for the restaurant scene where you can tell exactly what Tenchou is thinking without him saying a word.

The swallows part was also brilliant, and applied a little to each of them. I feel like Akira was talking about herself a little as well when she was talking about the swallow who had trouble flying.

It's a good episode. As many of you guys have mentioned, the swallow was a great example of not only Tachibana but also Kondou. I have not read any of the manga so I really don't know how it ends. From reading the post above and seeing it mentioned before, the manga has already ended.

I'm hoping they do reach the ending of the manga or give a proper ending. Again, as someone who does not know--I'm hoping Akira goes and rehabs with some encouragement from Kondou. I also hope that Akira will have enough words to convince Kondou to pursue his passion whether now it be making up with his family or continue his writing career.

Here's to hoping for a heartbreaking or heartwarming split between the two characters. I'll admit, I'll be disappointed if the anime has them becoming a couple. The story doesn't seem to slant that way and seems to point in the direction of a split--which would be in line with how mature and realistic they have handled this whole ordeal of the age gap thus far. The perfect ending theme for me and it seems to be going that way, would be them both learning to love each other and keep them in their hearts but know realistically that it's not going to work. We will see where it goes with only two episodes left.

Ah so it seems that because of his passion for writing, he started to neglect his family which could be a reason as to why his wife left him.

It's nice seeing both Kondo & Tachibana supporting each other!
The swallow metaphor fits them as they both are injured swallows.

I do hope that Kondo will get the courage to publish his novels one day & for Akira to rekindle her relationship with Haruka & go back to running.

Another captivating episode. It was sweet of Tachibana to invite Kondo to the used book fair, even though he ended up ignoring her for the most part. I can relate to Kondo's love of old books.

This episode also had a lot of nice backstory once again. We get a glimpse of the younger Kondo and his dedication to his novel. Sadly, that dedication also led to the breakdown of his marriage, or at least that is what is implied in the flashback.

On a side note. The always beautiful Tachibana really outdid herself at the book fair. Her hairstyle and clothes looked great!

Oh yes, for a moment there I thought they would jump WAY AHEAD of the story without considering continue after at the end of ch 39: otherwise it will turn out really bad for the anime ( no more second season possibility adaption): after I saw the last two minutes of the episode ( when Tachibana told Kondo it's perfectly fine by who he is, it's okay to have a passion dream he has for literature by he wants to achieve: for the first time Kondo really wanted to hear those words from someone who really supports him and excepts him who he is: SO SWEET!!!!!!) . Now we saw the story went back in track again without making non-necessary changes what will effect throughout the whole adaption of the anime: to be honest I felt relieved when it shown at the end that perhaps YES, the anime can still adapt the story after ch 39: let's hope they won't rush the ending of the anime, I rather have them deciding a second season if they do have plans to adapting the whole story without cutting the important elements of development that brings the ending it's full meaning.

OMG I REALLY LOVE THE BOOK FAIR MOMENT BETWEEN TACHIBANA AND KONDO: their outing was so incredible, even their text message really shows how they understand each other without having words to say what they are thinking, THAT'S SO CUTE, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD They realize they really do know one another and I really love it. xD Even Tachibana happen to see one side of Kondo she never knew of him before and she accept him with all his dedicate love towards novels and it's okay to show that side of himself: he's so grateful to hear those words from Tachibana herself; SO CUTE!!!!

Awesome episode: I'm so looking forward to see the next episode of the anime, let's hope we'll get to hear a second season adaption after this. ;)

Really beautiful episode yet again.

Akira's definitely taken a more passive approach with Kondo and seems to be accepting of their relationship as it is. I wonder where the final 2 episodes are gonna go because I doubt anything will be resolved between them by then. Maybe we'll just have an open ending...which I usually despise, but I think this series could pull it off pretty well!

Also LOVED Akira's outfit at the book fair!

After watching ep. 9 3 times, I thought it couldn't be surpassed. Then comes ep. 10. I liked it so much I watched it 3 times right away, too. I liked how Kondo's past was revealed. As Kondo put away his old writing and his thoughts, we were taken back to the restaurant, which led to the conversation about the swallow. The directing by Watanabe san is just amazing. The scenes transitioned so smoothly and seamlessly that it felt like watching a great movie.

In the end, I still liked ep. 9 a little better than 10, because it was about "classmates, not adults". That phrase resonates in me. This series is such a gem. There are only 2 episodes left. Normally I would worry about how the ending is handled, especially the manga is also ending around the same time. But now I am not worried at all. Each episode is so satisfying I am sure the next 2 episodes will not disappoint.

So apparently this episode was a bunch of chapters cut and mixed together. Looks like some things were skipped so I guess it’s time for me to read the manga. It didn’t feel rushed or anything though, the flow was pretty natural and I liked the scenes. I’m sad that there are only 2 episodes of this series left.

As a manga reader, I think all the changes they made in this episode, compared to the manga, already killed any chance for a season 2. And if they mean to make a season 2, well why they modified the things so much? I am not satisfied with this adaptation at all.

beautiful episode, what i like the most on this one is the bookfair part and the talk about swallow.

* its funny when they start their conversation or someone sees them they will always said they are friends... hahahaha...

* that text/ message ? and reply with !. is nice....

*it also showed the reason why he has stopped writing a novel. (its a sad one though)

* and that swallow part where Mr kondo said some wisdom to Ms tachibana is nice, even i when see (the subs) where they are saying those lines, it made me think for a while.. nice quote/ words of wisdom...

Good episode. I really liked the part at the book fair :3 Interesting parallels between Haruka and Akira when they kept looking at their phones :O I liked the part where we got to see more of Kondou's past, as well as his thoughts and worries about basically letting go of his dream to become a writer. Not to mention the part at the end ... so many metaphors coming out of that swallow discussion. It was nice to see their relationship progress this episode, and with only a couple more to go before the end, I wonder how they're going to end this off :O

With the appearance of Kondo's friend, a new phase seems to have opened up, and that concerning love is gradually disappearing from the narrative. This time the episode seems to last longer than usual and satisfies me much more, succeeding in concluding what is dealt with during the narration.

Their little friend date was adorable and gave each other insight but mostly into Kondo and his stride in life.

But the end monologue of the birds nest is really important to both of them and really hit deep. I was so sucked in to how that even effected myself in some way. Damn.
